Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll do ‘Doo-Wop (That Thing)’ – the debut solo release from former Fugees frontwoman Lauryn Hill.  Launched late October 1998, the tune – written and produced by Hill – became the first debut single of any artist in history to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 (where it was found this week that year).  A signature of the singer’s for its hard-hitting subject matter cloaked in a sonic fusion of Motown-inspired doo wop and hip hop, the song went on to Gold status before earning a few golden Gramophones at the 1999 Grammys – Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance specifically.  Helping lead its parent album, the iconic ‘Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,’ to whopping sales of nearly 20 million worldwide, it stands today as one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Tuck in below to see who joined Lauryn this week in 1998:

Queen of Pop Madonna has earned the title of ‘royal b*tch’ from the staunchest supporters of her biggest contemporaries over the years.

Most recently dominating headlines for a resurfaced letter that saw her refer to Whitney Houston as ‘horribly mediocre’ (click here to read more if you missed it), she not only infuriated the ‘I Will Always Love You’ singer’s stans, but also added them to a long list of fan groups who have penciled her name atop their hitlist.  A list that features the likes of Lady Gaga, Prince, Michael and Janet Jackson, Cher, Mariah Carey, and many more, Madge’s mouth has certainly incited no shortage of fury over her nearly 4 decade long career.

Now, for this week’s “Top 5,” That Grape Juice looks back at her top 5 feuds.  Look below to see if your favorite made the cut:

Your thoughts?

Janet Jackson is back in business. The touring business.

After weeks of speculation, the Pop queen confirmed that she will return to the stage for the ‘State Of The World Tour.’

The trek, which kicks off in North America this Fall, will serve as the diva’s first major work endeavour since pausing the ‘Unbreakable World Tour’ last year to “plan a family.” She gave birth to son Eissa at age 50 this January, with news of her split from husband Wissam Al Mana following in March.

Mounted by Live Nation, the tour’s name is lifted from the ‘Rhythm Nation’ album track of the same name.

The jaunt, which launches September 7th, sees Jackson honor her promise of rescheduling all affected dates from her prior outing.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday (May 5th).

***********

We’re all sorts of ‘So Excited’! Sure, the start-stop of her tours in recent years hasn’t been a good look. But there’s no denying that Ms. Jackson puts on a captivating and high-octane show. Each and every time.

We’ll most definitely be going to the ‘State Of The World Tour.’ Will you?

Your thoughts?

Much of Lady Gaga‘s career has been spent plugging albums, anchoring herself a daring fashionista, and flexing her acting skill-set. The latter of which earned her a Golden Globe.

But it’s the release of recent LP ‘Joanne‘ that has allowed Mother Monster to experience some of the highest points of her career.

Arriving in October last year, Gaga’s 5th studio effort sold over 200k first week and topped the Billboard 200 in the process.

The era more broadly carried her to stages across the globe and to the most iconic platform of all -the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Fittingly, the project is continuing to yield commendable landmarks.
