A return to prominence is proving itself elusive (to say the least) for Rap star Iggy Azalea.
Surviving ridicule from some of the genre’s biggest names, label drama, and a highly publicized breakup from basketballer/former fiance Nick Young, the Grammy-nominated diva not only soldiered through to deliver bop after bop from her long-awaited sophomore album, ‘In My Defense’ (see: ‘Sally Walker,’ ‘Started,’ F*** It Up,’ and more), but did so as an independent artist.
Despite her unwavering fight, the project – released July 19 – had to battle chart titans in the form of Ed Sheeran and Beyonce‘s respective efforts (and other top-sellers). The result? It debuted at #50 on the Billboard 200 to the tune of a reported 8,000 units SPS shifted.
Remembering how its predecessor, 2014’s ‘The New Classic,’ debuted at #3 on the same chart, Azalea took to Twitter to share her disappointment with the new LP’s figures. Read her statement inside:
