Drake’s quest to become a household name is proving to be a fruitful one.

After adding value to his global stock within the last year by way of new music, a carefully executed presentation of his new look and his ties to Rihanna, the entertainer can now say that he is the first of “contemporary” Urban act to truly challenge Beyonce commercially in today’s market.

How this is working wonders for him in the United Kingdom?

Twitter was truly set alight last night.

As if Taylor Swift vs. Nicki Minaj and, later, her boo Meek Mill vs. Drake wasn’t enough, famed blogger Perez Hilton had to get in on the action by congratulating all “people of color” whose names were on the nomination lists of the 2015 MTV VMAs (unveiled yesterday).

His failed attempt to shade Minaj did not go unnoticed, nor did its follow-up diss to her ‘Feeling Myself’ co-star Beyonce.  Comparing the diva to Rihanna and slamming her for ‘song stealing,’ Hilton got a swift reminder from the #Beyhive why it’s never a good idea to come for Bey.

The on-and-off-again duo exploded into a spat today when Brown accused Tran of using his name to score attention.  The result?  Tran responded with a serious clap back.

They may share a mutual friend in Pop cantor Rihanna, but it seems there’s no mending the broken bridge that once stood between performers Drake and Chris Brown.

One-Last-Time-ariana-thatgrapejuice

Ariana Grande is on a roll it seems as we’ve seen her name in headlines everyday this week for some reason or the other.

First, after headlining a slamming halftime show for the NBA All-Star Game this Sunday, the diva followed up with the premiere of the music video longtime fan favorite song ‘One Last Time,’ found aboard her #1 ‘My Everything’ album.

Later winning over new fans after the televised Stevie Wonder Grammy tribute saw her lend a stunning rendition of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”  alongside Babyface the night brought with it news that there is at least one group of people who definitely don’t fancy themselves #Arianators after the diva’s killer week – Aussie band Safia.

For, the indie group has caused quite the stir among the fan group after accusing their leader’s ‘One Last Time’ video of directly copying their ‘You Are the One’ visual – sparking quite the debate among fans.  Did you miss any of the action?  See it all below:

Months after Tyga took to VIBE magazine to announce his departure from his Young Money label home and slam his fellow YMCMB labelmates Nicki Minaj & Drake (click here if you missed that), the ‘Faded’ rapper is now feeling the burn from a clapback found on ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’

Unfamiliar with the title?

We were too until late Wednesday night when Drizzy dropped the mixtape unexpectedly to iTunes, sending his faithful fans into a frenzy.  That frenzy was heightened, however, once listeners perused the record to find a less-than-subtle jab at Tyga and 17-year-old girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, in the song ‘6pm In New York.’

See what he said below:

It seems Nicki Minaj isn’t the only one set to rain on Taylor Swift’s PR parade.

For, after she was accused of having Swift’s pal Selena Gomez booted from her management company, Katy Perry has taken to Billboard magazine to spill the beans on her long-running feud with the ‘1989‘ singer, threatening to expose anyone who dares to defame her.

iggy-azalea-

Her stock as a Pop star may be higher than it’s ever been, but it would seem Iggy Azalea may have a long way to go before proving herself as a lyricist.

For, despite standing tall as the breakout act of 2014, this week has seen the star hit with fresh criticism, whipped up by an interview she did long before she became the chart-topping force she is today.

Why she’s now become the butt of social media’s latest joke?

Some of rap history’s biggest sellers, from Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross to Nelly, Pitbull, and Flo Rida have all had their rap (and street) credibility questioned at one point in their careers.  None listed, however, were rebuked with the intensity of criticism like that aimed at Iggy Azalea.

From barely a buzz to a bulls-eye, she went from obscurity to enemy #1 in just a year.

Besides the unique position of being a white female emcee from Australia who rapped with a southern U.S. accent, not much else surrounded the newcomer’s name initially. In fact, this time last year she seemed poised to take rank with the many other unsung female rappers trying to find a place in the male-dominated game.

Despite backing from one of the genre’s frontrunners (T.I.) and a number of well-prepared videos to boot, success would not knock on the rapstress’s door until the unveiling of the pop-cloaked number ‘Fancy’ and its ‘Clueless’-themed music video. In conjunction with a timely “assistant role” on rising pop starlet Ariana Grande‘s hit ‘Problem,’ Iggy, seemingly out of nowhere, was thrust to the top of mainstream music consciousness.

Undoubtedly a dream come true for any female rapper, especially a Caucasian one traipsing a path so many before her had failed (see:  Sarai, Kreayshawn), that dream would prove itself a nightmare as all but the very genre she pursued would openly embrace her.

Has “winning” caused Iggy to lose hip hop’s respect?
