‘When They See Us’ – Netflix’s gripping four part miniseries recounting the infamous wrongful conviction of the ‘Central Park Five’ (in relation to 1989’s Central Park jogger case) – easily rings as one of the streaming giant’s most talked about shows ever.

Created, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay, the project – which stars Niecy Nash, Jharrel Jerome, Michael K. Williams, and many more – premiered on May 31st and has been a constant conversation piece on social media since.  Earning weigh-ins from celebrities and even prosecutors, lawyers, and other figures involved with the case, its reception has not only been met with critical acclaim for its vivid storytelling but also for shedding light on social and legal injustice.

Historically, Netflix has been mum about releasing ratings figures related to its showings, but a recent Twitter post suggests the viewership number is staggering.  Details inside:

As cult shows go, few can rival the resonance of ‘The Boondocks.’

First broadcast in 2006, Aaron McGruder‘s Adult Swim animation proved an immediate hit and served as a Pop culture provocateur; indeed, it sparked just as much debate as it did laughter. The show is also renown for foreshadowing much what would take place in the socio-political landscape.

Naturally, said traits saw the series court ample controversy; resulting in a three year gap between its third and fourth seasons and the absence of its creator McGruder for the latter.

Boondocks fans rejoice, though! Because five years after it last aired, it’s been confirmed that the show is being rebooted!

While some artists exercise their outspokenness when convenient, Miley Cyrus is doing so while in the firing line.

In 2013, the former Disney darling ditched the bubblegum Pop of her earlier bops and embraced a more hard-hitting Hip-Hop sound and aesthetic for the ‘Bangerz’ project. A move which yielded her both hits and headlines.

It wasn’t without its issues, though. For, many took offence with what they felt was the star playing dress-up with layer upon layer of cultural appropriation.

The sentiment was lent credence years later when Cyrus, then pushing a more Country kissed project named ‘Younger Now,’ distanced herself from Hip-Hop and claimed it pushed her out.

Now, with recent EP ‘She Is Coming’ seeing her return to similar sonics, a viral video – ironically uploaded by a fan – has probed the problematic nature of this.

Catching wind of this, Cyrus responded.
