On the wings of a critically acclaimed appearance on last week’s ‘SNL’ as host and musical guest, Donald Glover (stage name: Childish Gambino) sent chatter about his artistry into overdrive when he unleashed the video to his latest single, ‘This Is America.’
A poignant look at gun violence and race relations in the United States (as well as the social impact of the media on today’s youth), the in-your-face visual, for lack of better terms, “broke the internet.” Topping Twitter’s trending tally upon its release as well as inspiring conversations and weigh-ins from critics and social media commentators, the talk has helped the Grammy-winning beau see the cut walk right to the top of digital and streaming charts.
Rita Ora sent her fans into a frenzy when she announced her new single, ‘Girls,’ would be a diva collective featuring the likes of Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, and Charli XCX (click here to read more about that). Set for a May 11th release, the tune – the follow-up to her international hits ‘Anywhere’ and ‘Your Song’ – will come as the Brit-born beauty’s latest bid for U.S. chart success.
Beaming about the ‘girl power’ cut, Ora stated:
“For those who aren’t afraid to rule the world, this is our anthem,” Rita said. “A celebration of love. And of course thank you to all the fellow boss women who so kindly graced this song with me – each representing who they are and where they are from. I hope you dance your socks off with us!”
To drum up even more excitement for its unveiling Friday, Ora took to Instagram to show off the cut’s official cover artwork. (more…)
Post Malone is the man to beat these days as evidenced by this week’s Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts respectively.
As we reported here, the ‘Congratulations’ star was deserving of just that after his sophomore album, ‘beerbongs and Bentleys,’ steamrolled over global one-day Spotify records (set just the week prior by J. Cole). Going on to break global first week Spotify records and earn the record for “most first week streams in history,” those massive streaming figures, alongside some handsome digital downloads, helped the project to the year’s best first week sales (to date) at 461,000 units shifted. His dominance didn’t stop there, however.
On the Hot 100 side of the pond, Post posted a whopping 9 songs to the top 20 – more than any other artist in history (a record also previously held by Cole). Look inside for more:
