It may have taken seven years, but Rihanna consistency as an entertainer reached all new heights this year- upon the launch of her new album ‘Unapologetic‘.

Of course, while her voice still holds the goat like twang that has us begging for Beyonce‘s return, it seems her flawless performance at the ‘X Factor UK’ two weeks ago is paying off in ways not even she could have imagined.

Life, as far as sales are concerned, must be sweet for Bruno Mars.

Sending his second LP ‘Unorthodox Jukebox‘ to #2 on this week’s Billboard 200 tally, sales of 187,339 have ensured his chances of suffering’sophomore slump’ slim to none.

However, it is with heavy hearts that we report that not everyone fared so well on the charts this week. Yes, much like her vocals delivery at 2011’s ‘Rock In Rio’, Rihanna‘s ‘Unapologetic’ continues to fall flat.

As the man behind Usher‘s ‘Climax‘, Keyshia Cole‘s ‘Enough Of No Love’ and many a cut on Ciara‘s ‘One Woman Army‘, Elijah Blake is fast becoming Pop’s most sought after contributor.

However, while his skills have already seen him win an ‘industry concentrated’ respect , it’s his work on Rihanna’s ‘Unapologetic’ that has many a Pop fan foaming at the mouth, with some now hailing him as the male equivalent to Ester Dean.

Now, in an interview with That Grape Juice.Net, he has opened up on his friendship with the Def Jam belle and the inspiration behind his work for her.

Guess who’s back?

Indeed, ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ divo Chris Brown has fired up his Twitter account again today after a short hiatus due to an e-spat with comedienne Jenny Johnson last week.

As fans know, the singer’s Twitter handle may have been on vacay for a short stay, but his Instagram account never stopped buzzing – as evidenced by Brown’s recently uploaded picture of himself and “friend”/”singer” Rihanna – similar to one she shared last week

Christina Aguilera – ‘Get Mine, Get Yours’

While 2002’s ‘Stripped’ saw Christina Aguilera bare her most vulnerable self on tracks such as ‘Beautiful’, the set also ushered in the arrival of “Xtina”.

Many cite the release of single ‘Dirrty’ as the singer’s official transformation from teen-queen to sex-symbol, often neglecting the fact that the album itself packed a number of sensual moments to aide her racy agenda. The most notable of such cuts? ‘Get Mine, Get Yours’.

Unapologetic before Rihanna was, the mid-tempo blazer served as a manual for a “no strings attached” ‘encounter’. Critiqued by some for too quickly accelerating the star’s shift from role-model to rock-star, the cut remains noteworthy in that it’s the female commanding the male to “freak my body, baby, nasty naughty, baby”.

In many ways, it’s songs like this that paved the way for the sexual liberation of some of today’s most risque female acts. Xtina the feminist? That’s up for debate. What is certain, though, is that the song is fire! {SAM}

Whitney Houston – Call You Tonight

As many know, 2009 brought with it the chart return of the legendary Whitney Houston. Christened ‘I Look To You’, which would go on to be her last) was  a stellar collection of carefully crafted hits and material which embraced both her legacy and vocal ability at the time.

Interestingly, throwback groove ‘Million Dollar Bill’ was picked to launch the LP’s campaign, somewhat unfortunate  because said album housed a classic-in-the-waiting in the form of fan-favorite ‘Call You Tonight’.

Helmed by Stargate and Johnta Austin, the mid-tempo gem did a stellar job showcasing Nippy’s then-“new voice” and was the perfect representation of what a Whitney record should sound like in 2009 (or 2012 for the matter). With engaging lyrics, great melodies, and a powerful yet understated vocal performance, ‘Tonight’ was arguably a missed opportunity to make her Platinum coloured comeback even more triumphant. {JOE}

Destiny’s Child – Killing Time

Dwarfed by the success of later albums and subsequent solo careers, Destiny’s Child‘s 1998 self titled debut never quite gets the recognition it deserves – on many a front.
Boasting songs which bridged Pop, Country and R&B, the LP’s strongest point – save for ‘No No No’ – comes courtesy of Stinson/Wiggins produced ‘Killing Time’.

Packing a crossover appeal much of today’s R&B lacks, ‘Time’ sees DC at their best, serving the conviction and harmonies unmatched by any of their then-rivals.

Clearly the inspiration for much of the material on Kelly Rowland’s first solo outing ‘Simply Deep’, here’s hoping the coming years see the disbanded group shine a little more light on the cut and the supporting album so many consider…a classic. {DAVID}

Christina Milian – Never Mind

Picture this:  You’re at the club…getting your groove on.  Next thing you know, you spot a fine so-and-so doing their thing. They turn around…and in a split second things go from sugar to you-know-what. ‘Dip It Low’ diva Christina Milian thought to share that scenario in song.

The track is lifted from one of many studio sessions the singer had when crafting (what was to be) the follow-up to her 2006 album ‘So Amazin’ (see: scrapped albums ‘Elope’, ‘Dream In Color’).  And while the attache project never surfaced, Milian proves once again with this number that she is able to cook-up a radio friendly joint whenever she tries. When, and if, that will ever be fully manifested again…only time will tell. {RASHAD}

Whose Pick Was Best This Week?!

[polldaddy poll=”6722230″]

It seems Rihanna & Chris Brown have a smash hit on their hands.

One week after the release of the chart topper’s new LP ‘Unapologetic’, Fenty’s duet with the ‘Deuces’ star has made significant gains in the UK- securing the pair a spot in the Top Ten.

Details below…

“Do you remember?!”

Indeed we do remember Spring 1992; a window in which the late Michael Jackson was once again dominating TV, radio, and global arenas – thanks in part to this week’s From The Vault pick – ‘Remember The Time’.

Unleashed as the second single from the phenomenal ‘Dangerous’ album, ‘Time’ and the majority of said LP were produced by Jackson and (then-new) partner in crime Teddy Riley – marking a major musical shift for the King of Pop who achieved much of that title under the pupilage of Quincy Jones beforehand.

The New Jack Swing cut proved to be a commercial smash, peaking at #3 in both the US and the UK and securing a slot within the Top 20 of all the other major markets.

Beyond it’s chart run, the most exciting aspect of this single’s campaign was its fantastically flawless accompanying short film. Directed by John Singleton, and boasting appearances from actor Eddie Murphy, supermodel Iman (who played Jackson’s love interest), and basketball star Magic Johnson, the visual does a stellar job showcasing Jackson’s unparalleled talent, yet also Ancient-Egyptian culture. Indeed, for all the debate surrounding MJ and race, he made quite the statement enlisting an all-black cast in a quest to truly mirror the reality of the “historical era” the video tributes.

As you would expect from the greatest entertainer that was (and arguably ever will be), the video comes embedded with a killer dance-break – in the same vein Jackson himself popularised in the legendary  ‘Thriller’ clip. In many ways, ‘Time’ and its accompanying visual are a source of inspiration for both professional dancers as well as a multitude of today’s biggest artists.

Michael Jackson’s passing left a void in many a heart and as the new generation of entertainer is rising, it’s evident that few pack even a fraction of the qualities that made him individual so special, so extraterrestrial.

So to answer the question MJ was asking: we will never forget! We’ll always remember his unravelled gift, his artistic vision, his alien stage presence, as well as his unshakable commitment to charity.

Long live The King!
