This week’s From The Vault is a release that didn’t receive the recognition it deserved.
Today we salute ‘Never Too Far’ by one of the greatest to rock a mic – Mariah Carey.

‘Far’ was issued as the second single from Carey’s ill-fated and oh-so-underrated ‘Glitter’ LP – which served as the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. The ballad was baked by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis who had become frequent collaborators of the diva.

Unlike its Top 3 predecessor ‘Loverboy,’ the single failed to make an impact on the US charts, mainly due the fact that Mimi was going through a nervous breakdown, rendering her unable to promote the cut.

Still it was a minor hit in the UK where it reached the Top 40.

As she was in no condition to shoot a music video for the song, its official music video was a segment from the movie where Mimi’s character Billie Frank belts the ballad.

Though chart glory wasn’t in the cards for this song, we here at TGJ love it til this day and consider it one of her last great ballads.

With Mariah working on new music, hopefully we’ll get updated ‘Never Too Far’s and ‘Underneath The Stars’ instead of the usual ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Touch My Body’ re-hashes. Two songs that slay but have become blueprints that she is over-reliant on these days.

Mimi, the ball’s in your court!

Katy Perry wasn’t the only Pop purveyor who took to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend yesterday.

Also on the line-up? Pop’s most cohesive girl group Little Mix who took to the stage to rock the event’s audience with a high-powered set filled to the brim with hits.

Check them out below…

For much of his career Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has led many a movie to box office glory.

So, movie lovers who awaited the release of his ‘Baywatch’ reboot wouldn’t have been wrong to assume he would do the same for the project which hit theatres via Paramount this week.

Unfortunately, they’ve now learned that they were wrong following wave after wave of bad reviews and talk that is set to do anything but create a splash at the box office.

Said talk hasn’t gone unnoticed by Dwayne.

How the herculean actor is taking the news?

Well…

‘Bay’ was built of a budget of $69 million and has swept up $10 million so far.

That number is expected to rise to $30 million by the end of the weekend but will fail to live up to commercial expectations even if it does so.

What a shame to take this charming cast and maroon them in a morass of stale jokes and sub-sitcom-level plot twists in a remake that reads as a missed opportunity.

Will reviews like the one above threaten to disturb its progress globally?

Weigh in below…

Katy Perry made her way to the U.K. this week to push the feature-heavy set that is album ‘Witness.’

What the fun-loving star got up to while she was there? A headlining performance at the BBC Radio 1‘s Big Weekend!

Catch her in action below…

‘Witness’ drops June 9th.

Boom like an 808!  Ameriie is back!

The ‘1 Thing’ beauty may have seen the buzz for her 2016 EP ‘Drive’ ride right into obscurity shortly after its release, but thankfully that hasn’t discouraged her from continuing to push toward the release of her long-awaited next LP.

Now, after a year of silence, A has surprised fans with the release of ‘Red Rum’ – a trap-tinged tune that sees the songstress show off every element of the sonic formula that her fans have grown to know and love (rhythmic repetition, unique harmonic layering, and sensual lyrics).

Keen to hear the latest the R&B diva has cooked up?  Its all yours below:

One Direction star Liam Payne is wasting no time taking debut solo single ‘Strip That Down’ to the live circuit.

Kicking off his promotional run for the Quavo assisted single, the 24-year-old hit the stage on the Graham Norton Show to perform the track.

Backed by dancers and dabbling in choreography himself, Payne seemed out to prove that he has the gravitas to go it alone.

Peep his showing below…

Hmm.

While confident seeming on the surface, something still feels a little…lacking. And inauthentic too.

We have no doubt this is the space Liam likely wants to play in. But moving forward he’ll have to find a way to ensure it feels more “organic” than playing dress up as Justin Timberlake circa 2002.

The song also sounds entirely too sparse live; a live band would have beefed up the sound more.

After learning her latest country-tinged single, ‘Malibu,’ broke into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 (and to #1 in over 35 countries) this week, Miley Cyrus put her boots to the promo pavement to ensure her it enjoys buoyancy on those respective tallies.

Already showing off her chops to NBC’s ‘The Voice’ on its finale, yesterday saw Cyrus take the summer-ready song to ‘The Today Show.’ There, she not only gave a respectable rendition of ‘Malibu,’ but also treated fans to a live take on ‘We Can’t Stop’ and gave her thoughts on the horrific Manchester bombing attack at Ariana Grande‘s concert.

Ludacris may not be a seeing his name signed atop Billboard charts these days, but that certainly hasn’t stopped the Atlantan hitmaker from signing his name on some hefty contracts.

The rapper, who’s seen the latter half of his career dedicated more to roles on the small and big screens, has also been bitten by the hosting bug.  But, as if hosting the Billboard Music Awards wasn’t enough for his resume, the ‘Move B*tch’ beau is moving to MTV after inking a production deal that will see him develop new programming for the former music network.

The first of said developed programming?  A ‘Fear Factor’ reboot:

Luda’s not only serving as the show’s host, but will also executive produce.  The gross and often stomach-churning competition will see its guests duke and puke it out for a grand prize of $50,000.

“I am excited to kick off my partnership with MTV, starting with the relaunch of ‘Fear Factor,’ which will be even more insane and ludicrous than what you remember,” said Ludacris. “This will be the first of many great projects together.”

Catch MTV’s “Fear Factor” reboot with Ludacris when it premieres on Tuesday, May 30 at 10pm ET/PT.

Funnyman Kevin Hart has a lot to smile about these days.

When not selling out arenas and stadiums on tours across the nation, the comic is packing cinemas to view his blockbuster comedies.  Now, with all that terrain covered, Hart is traipsing new territory:  authorship.

With his memoirs, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons,’ due to hit shelves later this year, Kev is already taking to the media to dish on its content, share his excitement about expecting his first child with wife Eniko Parrish, and so much more.  Look below to hear him talk about this and more:

Footage of Tyra Banks‘ alleged assault of a young girl will not air on ‘America’s Got Talent’.

Earlier this week, the philanthropic mogul learned that the series was being sued by a couple who claimed that she mocked, degraded and used physical force to humiliate their daughter following their audition.

Fans of the show’s new season had hoped that footage of the potentially bogus attack would air on television to reveal what really happened.

Alas, it won’t.

The New York Daily News reports:

The NBC show will not air a segment featuring a couple who sued the show on Tuesday, alleging that host Tyra Banks humiliated their daughter while taping.

The couple, who allegedly wrote a song boasting about their daughter for “AGT,” claimed Banks made fun of it, and insinuated the girl was conceived by accident. It was ultimately dismissed on Thursday.

“We take great care of all acts that cross the ‘AGT’ stage and their families,” AGT’s parent company, Fremantle Media, said in a statement to the Daily News. “Tyra has been an incredible addition to ‘AGT’ with her vibrant energy and maternal nurturing spirit, and we look forward to continuing to watch her positive influence on the show.”

Why do you think AGT made this decision?

The Nigerian actor John Boyega has been forced to evacuate the building in which he was performing a stage play in following a bomb scare.

The star was performing at London’s Old Vic theatre today when he was rushed out of the building after a suspicious and potentially lethal object was found inside.

He, along with the 1,000 fans who arrived to see him live, were removed from the location and directed to an evacuation spot by police days after 22 people were murdered by a suicide bomber at an Ariana Grande concert.

An audience member revealed:

When an evacuation happens it’s either a fire drill or it might be a bomb.

The company manager came on while John Boyega was on stage, asked the audience to remain calm and said the show was going to end. Then the duty manager said ‘please evacuate’.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police shared…

Police were called at 14:38pm on Saturday, May 27, to The Cut, Waterloo, to a report of a security alert at a theatre.

The theatre took the decision to evacuate the building. Road closures have been put in place. Specialist officers are on the scene.
