Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll nod our heads to the beat of ‘Foolish’ – the official debut single from Grammy winning singer/songwriter Ashanti.  The songstress, who had already made history for seeing her first three singles simultaneously place on Billboard’s Hot 100, would follow the feat by fueling ‘Foolish’ to dethrone Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘Ain’t It Funny’ from the top spot the week of April 20, 2002.  The irony? Ashanti wrote the song’s remix and performed background vocals on it.

To say the girl was on fire – in front of and behind the scenes – was an understatement.

This week in 2002 Ashanti was in the middle of a historic 10 week reign atop the Billboard Hot 100, quickly proving herself to be the time’s true ‘princess of Hip-Hop/R&B.’  Tuck in below to see who else was making a splash alongside the singer this week that year:

Beyonce‘s truth-baring ‘Lemonade’ left a satisfying taste in the mouths and minds of the masses.

However for journalist Piers Morgan it’s the polar opposite.

The Daily Mail’s Editor-At-Large has made no secret of his dislike for Queen Bey’s ‘Formation,’ hence it’s little surprise that he’s sounding off about its parent album.

During a sit-down interview on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ today, the Brit critiqued the singer for (what he feels) was a deliberate commoditisation of her “blackness” as well as that of  mothers such as Trayvon Martin‘s.

With the inclusion of streaming stats in Billboard’s single and album charts’ placements these days, the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 records of many-a-legend are unsafe.

Indeed, thanks to Rihanna, the likes of Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Whitney Houston have all seen their historic achievements on the platforms met or surpassed.  Now, the Bajan beauty’s ‘Work‘ co-star Drake, is joining the fun.

In September 2015 he became the 4th artist ever to place at least 100 titles on the Hot 100 over the course of a career. Before him, only his mentor Lil’ Wayne, FOX’s hit musical show ‘Glee,’ and Elvis Presley were in the exclusive club. This week, after setting album streaming records, moving over 1 million units of his latest album ‘Views, and gaining 20 simultaneous placements on the singles chart, Drizzy’s not only crushed a record by fellow Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber, but he also pushes past Presley’s.

From music, to movies, to endorsements, Rita Ora enjoys an omnipresence that is undeniable.

It’s fitting then that the 5-time chart-topper features a-front of L’Uomo Vogue‘s “Influencers Issue.”

The striking spread, which was lensed by Francesco Carrozzini, arrives days after it was revealed that the singer will not be returning to the judges table on ‘The X Factor UK.’

Sources close to the situation stress that creator Simon Cowell did want her back, but that her almost-finalised deal with Warner Music will see her in the studio at the time of the show’s shooting. The latter being made possible now that her legal tussle with former label Roc Nation is nearing an end.

Not a bad “problem” to have, ay?

Lupita Nyong’o‘s career shows no signs of the post-Oscar slump.

Indeed, via a savvy selection of roles and a growing list of endorsement deals, the Academy Award winner – who won Best Supporting Actress for her role in ’12 Years A Slave’ – has broken the shackles so many of her predecessors weren’t able to.

And if a new report proves true, her rapidly rising star will only soar higher – thanks to Marvel‘s hotly anticipated ‘Black Panther’ movie.

The repercussions continue to rain down on Azealia Banks following a series of rants gone wrong.

Furore erupted on Twitter yesterday after the femcee took odd aim at Zayn Malik (for supposedly copying her style). For his troubles she branded him a “f*ggot d*ck rider.”

The anti-Azealia climate escalated when she turned her attention to UK rappers, who she asserted could not rap. Naturally, their clap back reflex was all sorts of real.

As reported, the latter saw her booted from a major British festival she was said to headline.

Now Twitter, the primary vehicle for her volcanic comments, has followed suit.
