Billboard’s end of the year reports are usually based on data comprised of radio airplay, physical and digital sales, and, most recently, Internet streams.  As such, it was a no-brainer for acts like Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Robin Thicke, and Bruno Mars to top the outlet’s ‘year-in-review’ charts given the spectacular commercial performances 2013 afforded each of them and more.

As 2013 draws to close, the onslaught of year-in-review charts are making their way online.  For music fans everywhere, however, there is only one set of charts that truly matter – Billboard’s year end charts.

Based solely on commercial performance, the tallies are always a list of ‘who’s who’ of the year set to close.  With this year’s headlines being dominated by the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, P!nk (Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Year’), and newcomers Lorde and Macklemore, many assumed one of the aforementioned would lead as the tally’s ‘artist of the year’.

However, as it has been revealed via the full chart’s unveiling today, the chart’s champion is indeed Bruno Mars.  Listing four Grammy nominations, top-selling tour, #1 singles and the # 1 album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ to his credit, Mars’ has had a year that was unquestionably out of this world.

However, as the #1 success of current single ‘Hurt You’ highlights, the singer has little reason to fret, for there clearly remains ample demand for her brand of grown and sexy.
