Female rap will be live and in full effect at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival.

The highly anticipated annual event, which courts some of the biggest names in music to line its performance roster, may be bigger and better than ever thanks to securing the likes of Nicki Minaj, Latto, and Megan Thee Stallion to be its leading Hip Hop contributors.

They aren’t the only Urban acts set to rock the festival when it takes over the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, however.

Look inside to see the who’s who slated to hit the stage over the two-day fest.

“Fashion’s biggest night out” – better known as the Met Gala – is easily the most wonderful time of year for fashionistas and fashion-forward fellows.

A designer costume party that doubles as a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, the outing is an annual assembly of Hollywood’s “who’s who” to show off some truly outrageous and over-the-top ensembles courtesy of top named and well respected designers.  As history has seen jaws dropped courtesy of gowns adorned by the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, and many more, 2022’s exhibition – christened ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ – promised no different.

With actor-singer-playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, EMMY and ACADEMY Award winner Regina King and award-winning actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds serving as the night’s official chairs (while designer Tom Ford and ‘Vogue’s Anna Wintour continue as honorary co-chairs), look inside to see how they – and all the other big-named guests like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Chloe Bailey, Camila Cabello, and others – turned heads with amazing their threads Monday night (May 2).

As the world slowly, but surely returns to normal, expect to see more and more artists not only hop to make up for lost time but also race to meet the Recording Academy’s updated August 31 cutoff for consideration at GRAMMYs 2022.

Evidence of this came Friday (June 11), which has marked the most jam-packed music release date of the year to date.

A Hip Hop-heavy heap of hopeful hits, Migos led the charge by delivering their long-awaited fourth studio album, ‘Culture III’ (the latest installment in the ‘Culture’ series).  Elsewhere, femcees ran the show as Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat dropped new gems while Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Latto served as features on male-led Rap releases.

In the Pop realm, Jessie J returned with her banging single, ‘I Want Love,’ while the likes of Ava Max, Kylie Minogue, Bebe Rexha, Lorde, and Maroon 5 all made their respective presences felt across the new music scene.

Akademiks has found himself in some controversy.

In an interview with Rachel Lindsay and Van Lathan for ‘Higher Learning,’ Lindsay read off Akademiks words where he stated that Megan Thee Stallion is overrated and doesn’t have the lyrical skills of some of her peers such as Nicki Minaj. This lead Ak to respond.

His words below…

Despite having a documented history of dissing Rap Queen Nicki Minaj, DJ Akademiks made headlines recently for finally “bowing down to kiss the ring” – but not without doing so at the expense of other female rappers.

No stranger for earning negative reviews for his controversial opinions, the popular Urban culture commentator expressed disappointment for the “low bar” set for femcees over the last year.  An interesting position given that female Rap hit unprecedented highs in 2020.

“The popular female rappers in 2020, the bar was this low,” said Akademiks. “Truth be told, for all the male rappers, if it was on some Juwanna Man sh*t and could f*ckin’ trick the game and just have a big f*ckin’ fat ass and people think they’re a female and just wear like, a ton of lace fronts and f*ckin’ wigs and throw on a sh*t ton of lipgloss, yeah, the skill level is here.”

Later in his rant, he homed in on Minaj’s ‘Hot Girl Summer’ co-star Megan Thee Stallion by claiming the Hot Girl Coach had ‘lazy bars’ and was succesful because she was ‘a victim.’

That’s not all he said.  Look inside to see just what got Stallion’s fans, affectionately called Hotties, blazing keyboards in defense of the Houston-born rapstress.

Megan Thee Stallion stuns a-front of the newest edition of W Magazine.

Billed as the Music Issue, the femcee is a fitting pick given the heat streak she’s been on over the last year.

Indeed, from ‘Cash Sh*t,’ to ‘Big Ole Freak,’ to ‘Hot Girl Summer,’ to ‘WAP,’ the Stallion has been unstoppable.

Parallel to the hits has been a magnet social media presence, powered by playful twerking, telling it as it is, and vulnerable moments with fans.

Head below to see the Houston-reared star spill on her journey so far.

“F*** You” singer Cee Lo Green had fans of Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion saying just that to him after he branded the ladies’ respective expressions of sexuality as ‘desperate’ (as we reported here).

Now, after drawing harsh criticism from the rappers’ fans and supporters for his “misguided” his weigh in, the Gnarls Barkley leader is reeling back the comments.

Taking to social media Wednesday (August 12), Green stated:

“There seems to be a misunderstanding with a quote taken from an interview I did a few days ago while promoting my new project,” he started. “Firstly, I’m an advocate of artistic freedom and expression as well as a fan of Nicki, Cardi & Meagan [sic]. I know most of them personally and consider Cardi & Offset family. Therefore, I would never disrespect them by any means.”

That’s not all he said. Look inside for the full statement:

While most are enjoying the splash that was Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s racy ‘WAP’ video, CeeLo Green is not one of them.

Indeed, so unsettled by the scantily-clad nature of the clip, the Gnarls Barkley singer was moved to speak out about displays of sexuality by female rappers more broadly. A move that saw him muse on Nicki Minaj unfavourably too.

Much like her ‘WAP’ co-star Cardi B (as we reported here), Megan Thee Stallion went live on social media ahead of the arrival of the tune’s accompanying music video to ramp up excitement.

While on the platform, she fielded fan questions – some of which (as expected) veered toward the topic of her health as she recuperates from surgery after suffering bullet wounds to her feet.  Reliving the horrific incident, Stallion (born Megan Pete) recalled the emotional aftermath:

“I feel like this is a thing that I see every single day and I see so many women, and I see so many men talking shit about this,” said Meg. “I felt, like, really crazy. I felt like, why did I get shot? Like, what did I do? It was insane. The shit was crazy and I feel like some people think that it’s funny and some people think that it’s a joke, and I feel like some people are saying it to get to me.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, she reflected on the lack of support from her closest friends:

“It’s not fun, b*tch,” she stated. “I don’t understand. I just felt very betrayed by a friend. I felt very betrayed by all my friends. I felt very shocked, very scared.”

That’s not all she said. Look inside for more:

Check out Megan Thee Stallion!

The rapper stuns a-front of Variety‘s Power of Young Hollywood issue.

Beyond posing it up for the striking shoot (lensed by Orin Fleurimont), the femcee also engaged in an interview with the publication. An interview that took place nine days after she was allegedly shot in the foot by Tory Lanez.

While that subject was off the table, the 25-year-old did open up about “bad things” as well as the packed plate of positive in front of her.

Indeed, she discussed meeting Beyonce – with whom she teamed with of #1 smash ‘Savage,’ her on-going degree in Health Administration, and her new album (which is pencilled in for release later this summer).

The Houston native, whose collab with Cardi B drops this Friday, also received praise from Nicki Minaj within the feature.

In a bid to celebrate and uplift, the BET Awards 2020 are set to broadcast virtually on Sunday June 28th.

Following closely are 2020 chart-toppers Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch – who’ve both nabbed five a piece.
