Here’s good news for ‘Good Days’; the latest single from R&B diva SZA.

While her comeback tune, ‘Hit Different,’ didn’t exactly prove itself the hit needed to amplify buzz for her long-awaited sophomore album, the tune’s successor – ‘Good Days’ – is definitely a hitting (the charts) differently.

As if blasting to the top of Spotify and real-time R&B sales tallies wasn’t enough (as we reported here), the song cracked the Hot 100’s top 40 last week, marking the eighth visit of her career to the chart region.

This week, the song’s cracked the top 30 thanks to a 15-spot leap credited to a handsome mix of digital downloads, airplay at R&B radio, and streams.

Look inside to see how that combo helped mark a personal milestone for the GRAMMY nominee.

Despite becoming her highest Hot 100 debut to date (as we reported here), SZA‘s September 2020 surprise-released ‘Hit Different’ wasn’t exactly a sustained hit.

However, the out-of-the-box success of its successor – ‘Good Days’ – may be just what the doctor ordered to reignite interest in the GRAMMY nominee’s long-awaited sophomore studio album, the follow-up to 2017’s 2x Platinum, ‘Ctrl.’

Released Christmas Day 2020, the gift of new music for fans is turning into a gift for its deliverer as evidenced by the tune’s impressive performance on streaming and digital download platforms (as we reported here).

Together, data from those formats have helped SZA land her eighth top 40 hit.

Three weeks ago, SZA sprung a surprise on fans with the unannounced release of new song ‘Hit Different’ – the kick off from her long-awaited sophomore album.

Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, the slow-burning tune boasts production from The Neptunes and saw its arrival accompanied with its official music video (directed by GRAMMY-nominated songstress herself).

Greeted with fanfare, ‘Hit’ – as we reported here – seemed to be an out-of-the-box hit as it scored SZA her highest Hot 100 premiere (as a lead act) ever.  Yet, its time in the tally’s top 40 was short-lived as peruse of the refreshed chart shows the cut has made a nearly 50-spot drop from its #29 debut.

See where it landed on this week’s hit list:

September 4 saw SZA spring a surprise on fans in the form of ‘Hit Different’ – the answer to years of calls for new music from the songstress after her 2017 critically acclaimed, double Platinum debut album, ‘CTRL.’

Tapping Ty Dolla $ign to assist, the single saw its unveiling accompanied by a choreography-laden music video directed by the Missouri-reared maestra herself.

Now, as its inaugural sales tracking week has completed, The Neptunes-produced bop has made an impressive premiere on the Hot 100.

The fourth top 40 hit of her career as a leader, ‘Hit Different’ also boasts being the highest chart debut of SZA’s career to date.

SZA is finally getting her due.

After years of working the EP and mixtape circuit, the singer/songwriter released her long-awaited debut album, ‘CTRL,’ in June 2017 – much to fan and critic delight.  Housing the well-received cuts ‘Drew Barrymore,’ The Weekend,’ and ‘Broken Clocks,’ it appears the tune fans had the most time for was ‘Love Galore,’ especially after a moving performance of the Travis Scott-assisted song at this year’s BET Awards.

Since that showing and the release of its accompanying music video, ‘Love’ has been getting exactly that on the streaming and digital download front.  So much so, this week it cracked the top 40 – a career first for the long unsung singer.  With strong suggestion that she’ll rise even higher on next week’s refreshed tally, we anxiously await news at just how high the songbird’s trap-soul single will fly on the Hot 100.

Until then, tuck in below to see who joins her in the chart’s upper half on this week’s TGJ Chart Check:
