Ouch! Though wholly expecting to brave critical backlash for its Biblical references (deemed by many as sacrilegious), Lil Nas X may not have been prepared for the mixed review his latest tune ‘J Christ’ itself would get upon its debut Friday morning (January 12).

After using his last controversial era, ‘Montero,’ to go to Hell to twerk on and unalive the Devil, Lil Nas X is now using his musical superpowers to go to Heaven in the cinematic music video for ‘J Christ‘ – the first single from his yet-titled sophomore album.

With its polarizing depictions of crucifixion and communion, LNX (born Montero Hill) once again ruffled the feathers of Christian conservatives – many of whom blasted the GRAMMY winner on social media and even signed petitions to have ‘J Christ’ blocked from radio and digital airwaves.

Much to their chagrin, their efforts have proven futile as Friday (January 12) brought with it the arrival of the Hill-directed visual in full.

Following the massively controversial ‘Montero’ era of 2021, Lil Nas X spent most of 2022 and 2023 on the quieter side of headlines.

That changed last week when the GRAMMY winner unveiled a peek at the single cover artwork for his “comeback” single ‘J Christ’ – a visual that depicts him being crucified like Jesus Christ.

Inciting an expected backlash, LNX – when not defending his artistic decision – followed with eye-popping teasers that will definitely get people talking.

Ahead of the tune’s official debut on Thursday (January 11), see the “trailer” inside.
