Since taking flight solo, Dawn Richard has established herself as one of the industry’s most exciting prospects. Indeed, the last year has seen the former Bad Boy beauty etch her name into mass consciousness with jaw-dropping music videos and concepts that push envelopes.
Hence, it’s little surprise that the singer is drawing on these traits for her new single ’86’ and its accompanying short film. The lead release from Richard’s ‘GoldenHeart’ album (due next year), the track’s visual features a homage to the group that started her journey – Danity Kane.
“’86 is a homage to my past,” says Dawn. “Everyone wants to look at the Danity Kane thing as a negative but it’s a positive. The girls have been and continue to be a guiding force in my journey throughout this music business.“
