beyonce-response-solange

Since elevator-gate hit headlines on Monday, all involved have maintained a silence of sorts – which has only intensified speculation as to what would cause Solange to go WWE on brother-in-law Jay Z.

A fiercely private family, few expect to hear any words from the musical clan. However, perhaps offering the only response we will get, Beyonce took to Instagram moments ago where she posted a number of telling shots.

Power. That exactly what EBONY magazine is celebrating a-front of their June 2014 issue.

A four-cover series, the latest edition of the popular publication features Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West and Rihanna – as a salute to their unprecedented impact on Black music.

Critically acclaimed writer Kevin Powell lends EBONY his pen and probes the connection between the ruling musical icons and how they compare with legends of the past.

“It was an honor to write the four cover stories for EBONY magazine’s Black Music Month special collector’s edition, and to also pen the additional four mini-features inside. Rarely do you see today’s unstoppable stars like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West and Jay Z packaged with legends like Tina Turner, Donna Summer or Tupac Shakur, but we did it because when it comes to Black music, it is important to note the deep connection between the musicians of yesterday and today.”

Set to hit newsstands tomorrow (May 6th), Rihanna is the first of the quad to comment on the cover. Her words below…

It’s “Girl Groups” week over at our friends at Billboard!

After winning over readers with their celebration of the “biggest girl groups of all time” in February, the “Music Bible” is launching a week-long homage to diva syndicates of past and present.

Always a favorite talking point here at That Grape Juice HQ, we’ve decided to join in the honoring of “girl power” by getting your input on the first of the week’s tributes – ‘top 40 girl group songs of all time’.

Based solely on chart performance on the Hot 100 (and adjusted to weigh changes in music such as digital downloads, streaming, etc.), the likes of Destiny’s Child, SWV, Spice Girls, and more duke it out for top ranking.  As expected, fan favorites like TLC and The Supremes dominate the tally with multiple entries, but there are many surprises along the way.

See the R&B dominated list below and tell us:  are you surprised?

After a lengthy break on the bench, ‘TGJ Replay’ is back!

Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ features, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest retrospective segment – a written quest, if you will, to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday.

Unlike its ‘Rewind’ and ‘Vault’ predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits.  As today marks the 44th birthday of TLC’s lead singer T-BOZ, our latest ‘Replay’ will revisits the group’s 1999 comeback ‘Fanmail.

To say Lady GaGa‘s ‘ARTPOP’ project has been disorganised would be the grossest of understatements. Indeed, beyond so-so sales, public disfavour, and managerial departures, the LP has only spawned one video – the clip for last Summer’s ‘Applause’.

That all changes Saturday, though. For, as reported, the singer is set to uncage the visual for the project’s latest single.

Up until now, details as to which track is receiving the video treatment were unknown. However, it has been confirmed moments ago that the song in question is…. ‘G.U.Y’.

Find out when and where the track will debut after the jump…

Entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey shakes off the unprecedented award-season snub from her critically acclaimed ‘The Butler’ performance by pushing forward to Broadway.

News broke today that the billionaire beauty is set to make her debut in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Night, Mother”, signing on after reports indicate Broadway veteran George C. Wolfe is set to occupy the director’s seat.

Also starring Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, word has it that the show is aiming for a 2015-16 season run.   The report surfaces just weeks after it was announced that Winfrey joined Oscar-nominated actor Brad Pitt as producer for a new movie based on the life of Martin Luther King, Jr during the planning of the march on Selma, Alabama.  The film will be aptly titled ‘Selma’.
