It seems R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, has caught the mixtape bug, like contemporaries Chris Brown and Trey Songz. In addition to a role in the upcoming film ‘Redtails’, Ne-Yo plans to release the free set of music, entitled ‘101’, before his fifth studio album hits shelves this Fall.

The surviving members of legendary girl group TLC, are featured in a spread in the August 2011 issue of Essence magazine. T-Boz and Chilli posed alongside a towering fashion model and were shot by world renowned photographer Gilles Bensimon, commemorating the bold fashions of their 20 year career.
“For the first album we did everything ourselves. We’d spray paint our pants, rip up our shirts.” Chilli told the magazine.

As reported here, ‘Spotlight’ singer Jennifer Hudson was one of many musical acts on-hand, including the night’s honoree Mary J. Blige, for Russell Simmons’ 12th annual ‘Art For Life’ benefit this past weekend.

Jill Scott is just one of many big names in music lending support to the UNCF for this year’s ‘An Evening With the Stars’. The event, also featuring Patti Labelle, Musiq SoulChild, Estelle, Miguel, and more, is set to be taped live on August 14th from Pasadena, but will air September 25th on BET.
This year’s roster will join an illustrious list of entertainers (see: John Legend, Fantasia, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson) who have taken the stage for the UNCF cause.

Former 3LW singer Naturi Naughton originally gained critical acclaim for her portrayal of rap’s Queen Bee Lil’ Kim in the 2009 biopic ‘Notorious’. And though making minor appearances on the big and small screen since then, reports have now surfaced the 27-year-old budding actress is preparing to join the cast of the ‘Wolverine’ sequel.

Naughton will play Cecilia Reyes, a former X-men member and doctor, who has the abilities to generate a forcefield that is tied to her life force; she can also use that force to provide her with basic weapons like spikes, hammers and battering rams.
Though the movie won’t be released until 2012, fans can still catch Naughton on NBC’s ‘The Playboy Club’ this fall.
