The death of the incomparable Tina Turner has sent shockwaves across the globe.

As reported, the legend died Wednesday (May 24) aged 83 after a prolonged illness.

The definition of an icon, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s impact spans many a generation and many a medium.

With the world in mourning, so too are several notable names who’ve taken to their respective platforms to pay homage to the ‘Proud Mary’ performer.

Angela Bassett, whose transformation into Turner in the unforgettable biopic ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ earned the actress an Academy Award nomination, led the tributes and was joined by the likes of Mick Jagger (whose narrative is also interwoven with Turner) as well as Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Kelly Rowland, and more.

Da last couple of years have admittedly not been da best to embattled rapper DaBaby.

When not navigating legal obstacles for brawls and baby mama drama, the GRAMMY nominee (born Jonathan Kirk) was coping with the fallout of homophobic remarks he made at a music festival in summer 2021.

The impact of the negative press saw endorsement opportunities, concert ticket sales, and streams of his music tank – leaving the once top-selling emcee at the bottom of the charts for most of 2022.

Just when it seemed all was over for the North Carolina hitmaker, the path to redemption seemingly came via the Tik Tok-fueled embrace of his latest single, ‘Shake Sumn.’ So much so, the tune is shaking up charts and rising fast.

With a mother hailed by peers and fans alike as the “Vocal Bible,” it was only a matter of time before Sy’rai Smith – daughter of R&B diva Brandy – set out to write a chapter in her own musical legacy.

Having already whet appetites over the last three years with teased tunes like ‘At Your Best‘ and more, Sy’Rai finally lifted the lid on news about her future musical endeavors earlier this year when she revealed her GRAMMY-winning mom would be the executive producer of her forthcoming EP.

The first taste of that body of work comes courtesy of ‘On My Own’ – an introspective tune about coming into womanhood.

“Think I finally arrived, it was so far from luck / Greatness is up to me and I’m makin’ the choice / I been takin’ my time and I ain’t in a rush / I don’t wanna miss anything, it’ll cost me too much,” she croons on the Keyz Bridgez-produced cut.

Accompanied by a colorful, Luciano Picazo-directed visual, hop inside to see just how Sy’Rai is standing on her own in her very first music video.
