Rapper Drake will no doubt be celebrating today; the Canadian star has notched up his first US chart topper with ‘What’s My Name?’

The Rihanna led single, rocketed #60-#1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week – after a surge in digital sales (250,000 to be exact).

Last week’s #1, Ke$ha‘s ‘We R Who We R’ slip to #5.

Mediocre song or not, kudos to the talented Drake. Having been quite the chart force himself, the 24 year old  this time had to deal with dismal live showings of the song put on by its lead performer. Luckily for him, today’s record-buying public don’t seem to care much for quality of a song or the faux-singer trying to sing it. Still, it’s all business and the first #1 of what I’m sure will be many more for the Young Money star.

It appears Ciara is cranking her promotional push for ‘Basic Instinct’ up a notch ahead of its release next month. The 25 year old beauty features in the December issue of VMAN magazine, a taster of which surfaced today. Classy shot. I like.

All I need now is a televised performance of ‘Gimmie Dat’ and we’ll be firmly on the right track. Truth be told, things finally seem to be accelerating with the project as of late. Indeed, ‘Gimmie Dat’ went for adds on radio this week, while Ms. Harris is currently hosting BET’s 106 & Park this whole week (premièring a new snippet from the album everyday).

Mariah Carey has another reason to celebrate other than her pregnancy. The diva’s new Christmas album, ‘Merry Christmas II You’, is set to debut at #4 on the Billboard 200 with 56 537 units sold, giving her her 16th top 10 debut on the tally.

Only Barbra Streisand and Madonna have more top 10 premieres with 30 and 19 entries respectively. Carey’s first Holiday album, ‘Merry Christmas’, was released in 1994 and entered the chart #30 with 45k copies in sales. ‘Merry Christmas II You’ has the distinction of having one of the highest debut rankings of any seasonal album of the last 10 years.

Another notable entry this week is N.E.R.D’s ‘Nothing’ LP which comes in at #24 with 18,559 units sold. However, there is no stopping Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now’ which managed to remain in the #1 spot with an impressive 327,493 copies sold in its second week on the charts.

Sidebar: These numbers and placements may change when the official Billboard 200 chart is tallied later this week.
