After announcing a new album earlier this week, From The Vault salutes one of UK’s most gifted girl groups.
This week’s pick is All Saints’ ‘Pure Shores.’
At a time when their chart rivals the Spice Girls were venturing out for solo project, the coast was clear for the Saints to release ‘Shores’, the first single from their sophomore effort ‘Saints & Sinners.’ It was also the official single from the soundtrack of the Leonardo DiCaprio-led blockbuster ‘The Beach.’
Produced by William Orbit and written by band-member Shaznay Lewis, the track was met with universal acclaim upon its release in early 2000, with many comparing it to Madonna’s latest project ‘Ray Of Light’ – also produced by Orbit.
The Electronica-Pop tune was a worldwide hit, hitting #1 on home-soil and charting inside the Top 100 in Australia, New Zealand and France among many other countries.
Intercut with scenes from the motion picture, its trippy video, directed by Vaughan Arnell, featured infrared shots of the girls walking on the beach, in Norfolk, England. Other scenes show quad in a jungle setting, a nod perhaps to the movie’s plot.
A public and ugly breakup followed soon after, however the the ladies buried the hatchet and regrouped in 2016 to release critically acclaimed ‘Red Flag’ album (which also opened at #3 on the UK tally).
And we’re glad they did.
Because, as talented as they are individually, the magic is principally activated when the four are together on record or a stage. A reality for many a group.
Ironically, nowadays it feels like such groups are only considered a stepping stone before the big – or not so big – solo takeover.
We say, the current crop of groups ought to learn from their predecessors and never burn that bridge. After all, there are no guarantees about what tomorrow may bring.
It begs the question, though: can groups really thrive and survive for the long haul or is the stepping stone factor now the unchangeable norm?
Remy Ma‘s decision to spar with Hip-Hop’s reigning queen Nicki Minaj has brought nothing but trouble to her life.
For, despite winning praise for her diss track ‘Shether‘, the rapper’s poorly-executed clash with Minaj has seen her lose their support of the Nicki-loving general public and forced to depend on a fan base who refuse to purchase her music.
The result? A crew of poorly-received tracks matched by even poorer sales. Unfortunately, there are some who seek to exploit this fact by targeting the rapper with fake news stories designed to aggravate her fans.

Bobby Brown‘s broken his silence on the controversial album cover artwork of Pusha T‘s ‘Daytona’ which features a drug-laden bathroom believed to have been that of pop icon Whitney Houston‘s.
T ultimately distanced himself from the matter after claiming Kanye West (who also acts as a musical contributor on the project) is the culprit behind purchasing the rights to the photo. With the focus shifted, the ‘I Will Always Love You’ singer’s family members (namely her cousin) weighed in on the ‘Heartless’ rapper by labelling him and the act ‘absolutely disgusting.’
In a recent interview, Brown echoed the sentiment:
“That’s really disgusting that he would do that,” Brown said. “That’s in really bad taste.”
He didn’t stop there, however. Look inside to read the harsh words he had for the ‘G.O.O.D.’ creator:
For years, Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner have been accused of having a weird and obsessive relationship with black men and culture.
So, keen to prove that she does care about the community much of her fame and celebrity stock was built on (see her ties to O.J Simpson, Brandy, Ray-J & 3T), the influencer arranged a meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform.
Why? Her concern that prison system treats people of colour unfairly.
Alas, her efforts have been met with laughter from those who say they through her supposed act.
Anitta is ready for her international arrival.
A superstar on home soil and in the Latin-Pop arena, the Brazilian bombshell is now being tipped for major success on a global scale. And it’s easy to see why.
At just 25, she’s dropped multiple Platinum albums and her flavoursome sound has proven too potent to be confined to one corner of the world. Indeed, amongst her growing fanbase are the likes of Drake, Camila Cabello, and Rita Ora.
A skilled stage-blazer, she’s established herself as live magnet and will be bringing her brand of fire to the UK’s capital next month.
Ahead of her landing, That Grape Juice caught up with Anitta, who spilled on her hotly anticipated crossover project, working on the set with Pharrell Williams, being inspired by Beyonce, and much more.

SZA‘s vocal woes are seemingly worse than thought.
As reported, the songstress was pulled from TDE‘s ‘Championship Tour’ last week due to voice issues – a move which took place weeks after her Coachella set was marred by similar dramas.
This morning the singer revealed that the situation is not improving.

Drake may have shaken the table with his ‘Duppy Freestyle,’ but rival Pusha T is looking to flip it over with clapback ‘The Story Of Adidon.’
A three minute massacre (rapped over the beat of Jay-Z’s ‘Story Of O.J)’, the diss track sees the G.O.O.D Music star fire from all cylinders. He throws jabs at Drizzy over being a deadbeat dad of a secret baby (birthed by a porn star); takes aim at Aubrey’s mom and dad, mocks Noah Shebib‘s battle with multiple sclerosis.
Here’s some of the heat Pusha unleashed…
“A baby is involved, it’s deeper than rap
We talkin’ character, let me keep with the facts
You are hiding a child, let that boy come home
Deadbeat motherf*cker playing border patrol
Adonis is your son and he deserves more than an Adidas press run
Love that baby, respect that girl. Forget she’s a porn star, let her be your world.”
Listen to the song, which has an interesting cover (to say the least) below…
