Rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s latest joint album ‘Watch the Throne’ is, as expected, finding major success on worldwide charts – with the latest reports indicating its reign over 23 charts all over the globe.  With strategic marketing and an unprecedented (of recent times) avoidance of early leaks, the album is on track to be a big seller boasting nearly a half million first week sales.

But, while Jay and the hip-hop community are no strangers to joint albums, MTVNews sought to weigh the impact of this most recent effort with the question:

For years, the debate surrounding light skin and dark skin has raged on in many a spectrum – not least Popular music.

While the musical landscape boasts a multi-ethnic presence, some maintain a stance that success in Pop is unevenly orientated towards acts with fairer complexions. Indeed, one look at the charts arguably lends compelling credence to such statements.  For, with every Fantasia, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, there exists the more successful Beyonce’s, Rihanna’s, and Alicia Keys’ of the world; artist’s whose success is oft built on the ability to “sell” them.  Which begs the question: is the music industry bias towards light skin acts?

As such, in our quest to continually push the envelope, That Grape Juice took to the streets of Hollywood to hear what the masses had to say on the matter. This, ladies and gentleman, is…‘The Word’.

‘And I’m Telling You’ singer Jennifer Hudson told off a fan on Twitter today, engaging in a fiery exchange when a follower questioned the singer’s recent weight loss and made comments about fiance David Otunga.  Hudson, who just celebrated the birthday of 2-year-old son David Otunga, Jr. yesterday, may be known for serving up hits and show-stopping performances, but this time she served just a tad more.

The polarizing rap upstart, Miss Kreayshawn, is the cover girl for i-D Magazine’s latest issue. The visual was shot by legendary fashion/celebrity photographer Terry Richardson. It’s also interesting to note, out of all the new buzz artist of the moment, Kreayshawn seems to be getting the most label push – 1 million dollar deal, cover of a major publication less than 2 months after the deal, blog advertisements, radio interviews. Now, if only they’d let the music speak – where’s the  ‘Gucci Gucci’ follow up?
