Since winning MTV’s popular reality show ‘Making The Band 4’ last summer, the group- consistent of Mike, Quanell, Brian, Robert and Willie – have been without a collective name to go by. However, during an appearance on radio station Power 99 in Philadelphia yesterday, the guys revealed that the group’s official name is Day26. No explanation was given, so I’ll reserve my judgement until then.

What do you think of the name Day26?
It had been announced previously that fans should hit up Janet Jackson’s official website today at 1pm (US) / 6pm (UK) for a surprise of some sort. It turns out the ‘surprise’ was two new tracks from Janet’s highly anticipated ‘Discipline’ album – ‘Rock With U’ & ‘LUV’.The first, ‘Rock With U’ is a futuristic techno-esque cut. Fans of the Kylie Minogue sound, will eat this up, as will the European market. Perhaps the most surprising thing about the song is the fact that it’s produced by Jermaine Dupri. Very alternate to the sound we’ve come to expect from the hit-maker. Not the best Janet track, but satisfying, all the same.

‘WOW’ is the what came to mind after listening to the Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins produced ‘LUV’. I’m actually still playing it as I type. The beat goes HARD. The vocal arrangements are on-point too, with Janet’s harmonies complimenting the gritty production. My gut told me Darkchild’s involvement with the project would yield great results – case example, this and ‘Feedback’.

If these are indicative of the rest of the album, Ms Jackson is onto a winner.

Hit(s) or Miss(es)?

Peep rapper Lil’ Kim arriving at the screening for ‘Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton’ in this aptly designed Marc Jacob outfit. If you place your hand over her head, the pic looks kinda good; but what the hell is going on with her face. She looks a complete different race. Kim, get it together!

Mariah's New Single Pushed Back Again As some of you know, Mariah Carey’s new single, the lead from her upcoming ‘That Chick’ album, has confirmed as ‘Touch My Body’. Originally set to debut last Tuesday, then bumped to this week and then the next, AllAccess.com is reporting that the track will now impact radio on February 19th – nearly three weeks from now. I’m assuming it’s all strategising on the part of the label; I mean, the album doesn’t drop until April.

Any thoughts?

I’m thinking the Janet fans can breathe a sigh of relief, after many assuming she’d done away with her trademark interludes. The tracklisting was pretty interesting on a number of other fronts too; the Missy Elliott collabo seems to have come out of nowhere and Janet really seems to have found a formular that (hopefully) works with a select few producers and stuck with it. Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins has a lot of material placed on the record, as do rising stars The Dream & Tricky Stewart. ‘Discipline’ drops February 26th.

Mary J. Blige’s appearance on the Tyra Banks show aired yesterday. The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul was interviewed as well as performing her new single ‘Hurt Again.
Great interview! That has to be the most I’ve ever seen Mary show of her real personality, aside from her music. Kudos to Tyra for delivering such awesome interviews with her quirky self lol.

Though I still think there are more eligible single tracks on Mary’s ‘Growing Pains’ album, I’m starting to gravitate toward ‘Hurt Again’ more after seeing this performance. Good stuff.

What do you think of the interview / performance?

In what comes as unsurprisingly surprising news (if that makes any sense), Nicole Scherzinger’s serially delayed solo debut ‘Her Name Is Nicole’ has been pushed back to June 23rd (UK). Is there a point anymore? For real, by then it will be almost a year since the album was originally supposed to drop. You’d think the album was the hotness with the way it’s still being pushed to the public. The reaction to those dreadful singles she released should serve as an indicator that not many are feeling what she has to offer as a solo artist. I say, throw in the towel (at least she tried lol) and call it a day. The Pussycat Dolls have a winning formula – she should stick with that.

Danity Kane performed their new single ‘Damaged’ at Spotlight on Bad Boy RnB Night this Tuesday (January 28th). I’m really on the fence about this single and Danity Kane altoghether this time around. ‘Damaged’ IMO just isn’t (lead) single material, and with the heat they packed on that first album, I definitely expected better. Saying that, the girls definitely are working with something and their growth, in terms of stage presence, really shows in this performance. Time will tell if the album delivers the goods. (Tidbit: Is it me or is that Shannon actually singing at the start?!).

The girls recently stopped by Miss Jones’ Hot 97 radio show and had a lot to say about a certain Keyshia Cole. I won’t spoil it, but I’m sure this one is sure to raise a few eyebrows. Check it out:

Alicia Keys Joins Grammy Line-UpIt has been announced that Alicia Keys will be performing at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10th. Keys joins an already stellar line-up of performers which includes Beyonce, Rihanna, and Janet Jackson (unconfirmed).
Though I enjoyed Alicia’s latest effort ‘As I Am’, her performance isn’t one I’ll be looking out for. Granted she always gives a good performance, I’m kinda left wondering what’s the point – she’s hit the stage at every award show for the last few months now.

Rihanna continues to up her endorsement game by becoming featuring in the now-iconic ‘Got Milk’ campaign. Can’t hate on her hustle…or that of her label’s.
In other Rihanna news, MTV.com is reporting that the ‘Umbrella’ singer is already at work on the follow-up to ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. I was now about to rant about how she needs to go sit down blah blah blah. Yet, it’s obvious what’s going on here. With her ‘breakthrough’ album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ having sold less than expected – especially after the monster that was ‘Umbrella’ – the label are gonna try squeeze out as much as they can from her marginally talented self.

You ready for a new Rihanna album?
