There is no better way to kick off 2011’s From The Vault series than with a song from Brandy. Coincidentally, ‘What About Us?’ was released as the 1st single from the R&B singer’s ‘Full Moon’ LP on January 1st 2002 – New Year’s day.
The track, which was co-written by Brandy herself and produced by her longtime collaborator Rodney Jerkins, peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. ‘What About Us?’ performed even better in the UK, climbing to #4 on the Official UK Singles Chart.
At the time of its release, this video was one of the best of Brandy’s career. Edgy and artistic, the visual distanced the singer from the relatively safe and innocent appeal of her earlier projects, demonstrating an artist who was ready to take the next step in her career.
The entire ‘Full Moon’ album illustrated Brandy’s continued growth as a vocalist as she continued to explore the full extent of her brilliant contralto. Hopefully, she can once again make music like this because if she wants to return to prominence in 2011 she has to deliver nothing but the best.
As earlier reported, socialite Kim Kardashian is venturing into the world of Pop – with the help of hitmaker The Dream. While details pertaining to the project’s lead single remain scarce, indications suggesting that’s all about to change are plentiful.
Indeed, Kardashain premièred the song at TAO Las Vegas last night while celebrating the New Year festivities – a video of which you can check out shortly.
On the topic of videos, the budding singer recently shot the song’s accompanying visual in Los Angeles. The clip was jointly directed by Hype Williams and Kanye West. Peep the TAO song premiere and more pics from the video set below…

Pop pretender Cheryl Cole appears on the cover of the February issue of Elle magazine. The X Factor stay may not be able to sing worth a lick, yet she sure stays stacking these magazine covers and endorsement deals. Oh the industry of today…
This week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star(s) are Mezzie La’Flare. The Dallas, Texas duo, consisting of Cymon and Charity, turn in an ‘interesting’ rendition of Ciara‘s Urban hit ‘Ride’.
Check it out below:
Perhaps one of the most noteworthy Cover Stars we’ve featured yet, Mezzie La’Flare’s take on ‘Ride’ manages to be a car-crash comedy, while somewhat ‘good’ at the same time. Clearly over-sung, with vocal finesse nowhere in sight, the ladies do show a litte promise with some of their adlibs and runs. Still, we’re keen to hear your 2 Cents on this one; hot or not?
