It’s Ciara’s birthday weekend!  In honor of one of our favorites, this week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star is Ashleigh Paylor singing ‘Sorry’ from Ci’s latest critically acclaimed self-titled set.  Watch below:

As ‘Sorry’ continues to ring as one of our favorite numbers from Cici, we always love to hear a cover that does the tune justice.  And, Paylor did just that and then some!

Uncannily sounding just like the ‘Promise’ singer in parts, Paylor was able to capture the emotion and sincerity of the lyrics without drowning them out or attempting to overcompensate with with dramatics and theatrics (see:  excessive melisma, volume, etc).

To that, we say bravo!

Let’s be honest, supporting Contemporary R&B hasn’t been easy in the last few years.

Left to fend for itself in a world without substantial radio backing, thinly spread budgets and widespread talk of it being ‘dead’, the genre has been dealt more than its fair share of commercial blows recently, much to the dismay of those who hold it most dear.

However, it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel today. A light, made a whole lot brighter by the force that is….Ciara.

That’s right, almost a year after a first hearing a snippet from the number, today saw Ciara announced ‘Overdose‘ as the third single to be pulled from her R&B #1 album ‘Ciara‘.

Releasing its artwork to Just Jared.Com, the Grammy winning chart sensation strikes a provocative pose with an unidentified male on the cover, sure to raise many an eyebrow and erect a fresh buzz around the Pop single- penned by  Ali Tamposi, Livvi Franc and Cici herself!

After a few false-starts, this Summer brought with it the release of Ciara‘s self-titled album. Hailed by many as a musical return to form, the project’s most pronounced success came in the form of ‘Body Party’, which danced its way up the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B tallies respectively.

And while a new single has been commissioned (see: ‘Overdose’), it appears the stage blazer already has her sights set on her sixth studio album.

As to prepare the tour so many of her fans anticipate, Ciara headlined yet another event on Friday- performing at  AT&T NFC Kickoff Rally at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C, giving just a little of what those fans can expect come the tour’s launch.

While there, the ‘Hotline’ entertainer hit the stage with a performance of her ‘Ciara‘ pulled jam ‘Keep On Lookin‘, breathing new life into the gritty Ragga influenced jam.

They may be based in the East Coast, but New York Fashion Week saw Rihanna & Ciara spend the bulk of the last week out West- as seen in the snaps above and below.

Arriving at the Prabal Gurung show sans her ‘Honest‘ boyfriend Future, Ciara turned heads after learning of the continued success of her latest LP, which now edges closer to sales of half a million units worldwide after birthing US Top 40 hit ‘Body Party’, which peaked at #22.
