Although two years have separated fans of John Legend from an official studio album, the wait for a new body of work came to a close Friday (September 9) with the arrival of the EGOT winner’s newest project ‘Legend.’
The first fruit from the singer’s deal with Republic Records (after leaving his label home of 17 years, Columbia), the two-disc affair arrives on digital shelves after support from its critically acclaimed singles ‘Honey’ (featuring Muni Long), ‘Dope’ (featuring JID), and the Saweetie-assisted ‘All She Wanna Do.’
Speaking on the new project, Legend – who is in the middle of the hotly-selling ‘Love in Las Vegas’ residency at Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood – revealed:
“Until this point, I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album. I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying, I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”
Now you can stream the “declaration,” which also features appearances from Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Jhene Aiko, and more, courtesy of Apple Music and Spotify. Hear it inside:
