Janet Talks Def Jam, Tour & MoreDuring a recent interview with Billboard, Pop superstar Janet Jackson addressed a number of things including her current status with Def Jam, what to expect from her ‘Rock Witchu Tour’ and more. Check out excerpts from the interview below:
On Status With Island Def Jam

I can’t say if we’ll be working with them in the future,” Jackson said today (Sept. 4) during a conference call with reporters to promote her upcoming Rock Witchu Tour. “I don’t know what the future holds between the two of us.”

On Her Tour:

“It’s two hours of dance” she says. “This show is all for the fans,” Jackson told Billboard.com during the call. “They tell me what they’d like to hear, what they’d like to see, what they want. And this is what I’m trying to give them.”

Future Plans:

“We’ve been talking about something for TV, also a DVD,” she confirmed, the latter of which may include “past stuff I’ve done that wasn’t previously released,” including possibly a Japanese TV performance that was filmed in High Definition during the Rhythm Nation 1814 Tour in 1990. “Just a nice package for the fans,” Jackson explained. “They’ve been asking for it for so long, and they truly deserve it.”

Jackson said that she definitely” intends to keep the Rock Witchu Tour going beyond its current Oct. 22 wrap in Dallas, with more U.S. dates and legs that are currently being discussed for Europe, Asia, Australia, Russia and “some parts of the Middle East. It hasn’t been etched in stone. It’s still being put together. People will hear about it in a little while.”

Despite the ‘situation’ with Def Jam not being an ideal one, it’s good to see Janet being so frank about the matter…not sugar-coating anything. Anyway…roll on next week, I’m really anticipating seeing the unveiling of her much anticipated show.

Beyonce Covers Marie Claire
Peep Beyonce on the cover of the latest issue on the cover for the October 2008 issue of Marie Claire UK. Sexy, yet classy…great cover. {Randomness: Ms. Knowles is looking  good few hues darker than the infamous L’Oreal ad…can you say damage control lol}.
Interestingly the cover’s tag ‘Beyonce’s back and ready to shock’ seems to be apt time-wise. There is mounting speculation that the ‘Crazy In Love’ singer will be the ‘surprise’ at  next Monday’s MTV Video Music Awards – taking to the stage to perform her highly anticipated new single. I guess time will tell…roll on next Monday!
What do you think of the cover?
Kelly Rowland recently performed at The Astoria here in London. Peep her performance of last year’s summer hit ‘Like This’ (apologies for the rubbish video quality lol):

There really must be something in the air over this side of the pond, as Ms. Kelly really seems to be feeling herself when over here – and rightfully so. Though not her best performance, still a great one all the same.

What do you think of the performance?

Ciara - 'Go Girl (ft. T-Pain)' As reported earlier, Ciara’s much anticipated new single ‘Go Girl’, the first to be lifted from her third LP – ‘Fantasy Ride’ was set to debut this week. Indeed, the track went on to surfaced just a few hours ago.
Though the song, which features T-Pain, is a solid mid-tempo cut (with that ‘knock)’, I must say I’m somewhat underwhelmed by this. With the high-octane/’Crunk to the next power’ nature of the album’s previously announced first single ‘High Price’, I was expecting big things from ‘Go Girl’, yet it doesn’t really deliver. By no means a poor effort, just simply not first single material. Here’s hoping the album packs more of a punch than this…

Ne-Yo Wins R. Kelly LawsuitR&B star Ne-Yo has won the lawsuit he filed against a tour promoter acting on R. Kelly’s behalf, after unceremoniously being thrown off a joint tour with the ‘Ignition’ singer back in January. Peep the report below:

Because of some backstage machinations, Ne-Yo is a little bit richer.

The R&B star has scored a nice payday for being dumped from R. Kelly’s road show last year. A Los Angeles judge has ordered Kelly’s promoter to pony up $700,320 to the “Because of You” Grammy winner.

Ne-Yo went to court in December, alleging he was bounced from the Double Up tour because his opening set was getting better reaction from fans and critics than Kelly’s. The bill also featured Keyshia Cole and J. Holiday.

Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey made his default judgment after Georgia-based Rowe Entertainment refused to respond to the lawsuit filed by Ne-Yo under his real name, Shaffer Smith.

Per his suit, Ne-Yo was supposed to earn $785,000 on the 25-date jaunt, but the 25-year-old performer was canned by Rowe after the second show on Nov. 15 and only received a fraction of the contracted amount.

At the time, the promoter blamed the dismissal on Ne-Yo’s camp for not completing the proper paperwork. {Source}

Good to see justice served…

The undisputed King of Pop Michael Jackson turns 50 today. I know, time really does fly by…
For over 4 decades Michael has thrilled music listeners and audiences alike with his unmatched catalogue of hits and stage show performances. Arguably the greatest performer of all time, Michael’s impact on music resonates till this very day; and no doubt will continue to do so for years to come.

Speaking from his home in California, Michael talked with Good Morning America yesterday about his big day, reminisced on his storied career as well as future plans:

On his plans for his big day:

“Just have a little cake with my children and we’ll probably watch some cartoons — before getting right back to work.

His greatest achievements (Songs) / Future plans:

Oh boy, that’s a hard one,” he said, before singling out “We Are the World,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller.”

But Jackson was not content to rest on his laurels, saying, “I am still looking forward to doing a lot of great things.”

He hopes to release new music and tour, though he doesn’t have dates set.

“I am writing all the time,” he said. “I love composing and the whole thing. But I am also raising my children and enjoying it and teaching them to ride bicycles and how to read. I love it.”

On his kids:

Asked if he’d like his two sons and daughter to have the same sort of upbringing as him, he said he’d prefer to let them “enjoy their childhood as much as possible.”

“I let them go to the arcade and go to the movies and do things,” he said. “I want them to get to do the kind of things I didn’t get to do. So, I fill them with a lot of enjoyment that way — a lot of amusement. You know?

“I get pretty emotional when I see them having a wonderful time,” he added, “when they are on a ride and they are screaming and they are happy. … It makes me emotional, ’cause I see they are having a real good time.”

Jackson said his kids “love music … they are very much into the arts,” but that, “I don’t push them.”

Happy Birthday, Mike!

R&B star Kelly Rowland really is doing her thing over here in Europe. Peep her new commercial for Nike’s Human Race – the world’s biggest one-day running event – which takes place in many cities across the world simultaneously on August 31st. Rowland will also be performing at the Paris event.

Watches again: She was getting it!

What do you think of the commercial?

Keri Hilson - 'Slow Dance'Recently, ‘Slow Dance’, a new cut from Keri Hilson’s hotly anticipated album ‘In A Perfect World’ surfaced. Produced by Polow Da Don (and co-written by Justin Timberlake), it comes as no surprise, then, that the song bares slight resemblance to Ciara’s ‘Promise’ – also produced by the Atlanta hit-maker.

Keri really seems to be on to a winner with this album of hers; each track I’ve heard thu far has been top notch – this included.
‘In A Perfect World’ hits stores October 7th.

{Many thanks to everybody and their Mama who forwarded this one along! LOL}

Kanye really is really churning out these videos from his ‘Graduation’ LP; so much so that I’m starting to think he’s funding them out of pocket. Anyway, the latest for ‘Good Morning’, which you can view above, is pretty cool.

What do you think of the video?

'Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams': Will You Be Buying?Solange’s sophomore album ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’ hit stores today.

There is no doubt that all eyes will be on this release for many a reason, not least because of her superstar sibling.

I’m really feeling Solange’s everything this go-round. Having become well acquainted with the album, I must say she is serving up a very solid effort. More power to her.

That said, That Grape Juice wants to know if you’ll be picking up ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’…

Will you be picking up ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’?
The 'RandomNess' Post

So, anything from your thoughts on the site, to random ramblings, particular views on any story (music, politcs, sports etc), share a story/new song, shameless promotion of your own site/material lol…not to be limited to music alone…a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g! It’s your shout!
So to get the ball rolling…I’m really liking Pink’s new single/video ‘So What’:

Brandy - 'First N' Luv' (Snippet) With Brandy’s ‘comeback’ single ‘Right Here (Departed)’ heating up the airwaves, a snippet of, what is said to be, the 2nd single from her forthcoming ‘Human’ LP has surfaced. Produced by Hit Boy, ‘First N’ Luv’ isn’t really sounding like the follow-up I’d been expecting.
Though I never tire of Brandy’s trademark airy delivery/vocal arrangements, the busy/all over the place production makes for a pretty hard listen. Potentially a grower, though; so I will reserve full judgement until hearing the track in its entirety.
