Beyonce Show Axed For Being Too Sexy

Published: Friday 28th Sep 2007 by Sam
As a result of protests by Malaysia’s Muslim groups, Beyonce’s upcoming concert in the country’s Kuala Lumpur region – her first ever there – has been cancelled. The ‘Deja Vu’ singer reportedly refused to conform to the Malaysian Muslim dress code – which doesn’t allow for female performers to reveal any skin from the chest down – or tone down her racy routines. Interestingly, Gwen Stefani, who toured the same region recently, agreed to make changes to her show so that it may be acceptable. {Source}
I doubt her refusal was down to any diva antics. The whole idea of her touring over there seemed to be ill-advised in the first place. A large part of Beyonce’s appeal is her ‘sexiness’ and having seen the show myself, I doubt it would have been possible to alter the show to the expected standards.

    Whaaat?!? I’m first?!?
I’d have to agree. They have to know the culture over there would never allow her to perform. It’s a grown and s*** (S***) show.

    What were they thinkin?

Papa Knowles and them tryna pimp her ass everywhere. They shud have knwon full well her show wouldn’t go down well with them folks over there.

  3. Anonymous September 28, 2007

Shawty really needs a break how much more pimpin can her father do. What her father needs to do focus on Kelly and trying to fix the mess of her project and it’s promotion. Also why not work on Michelle too.

Why should she have to change anything, she is a free woman. It think her decision says that unless it is a religous thing, women can wear what they want. Plus she isnt Muslim!

  5. OLW September 28, 2007

I think that Gwen Stefani was wrong about it… it’s tim for some country not to impose their religion (because here it’s that) to people, especially foreigners !
I mean that’s just freedom : people who go to the show know what they’re gonna see… they’re free to go there or not ! Like B is free to put her freakum dresses or not !

If making her cover up will get her to NOT perform then maybe would should try it in the states and hopefully she will go sit her ass down somewhere.

Don’t get me wrong (Poster #1) – I’m a HUGE Beyonce fan. She should go everywhere she is loved and wanted (and make ALL that paper! – ALL OF IT).

…but the climate we are in right now – goin over there – nope.

  8. Melissa September 29, 2007

Last time I heard that they have’nt even spoken to her. Well anyway, if the show is off, it’s off.I’m sure there is a reason behind this mess

wow i had to laugh reading all the ignorant comments some people wrote. if YOU are going into a person’s country YOU have to conform to their laws! i mean if someone was coming from america from a country where they don’t believe in wearing any form of clothing, they would be arrested for indecent exposure. i hate how people always try to make muslim countries look bad! i’m not muslin but even i can understand that they wouldn’t like a woman, no matter how popular to come half naked to their country! beyonce is no exception, and if she couldn’t rock a s*** dress to please both her fans and the government, she’s selfish! yes she is a free woman, but she needs to understand that as an international artist she has fans from international countries and varying backgrounds, come on! they bought her records and deserve to see her live just like anyone else, and if she can’t cover up for one night to please her fans they need not to be paying for her lacefronts, and her cars!

Come to london, A lot of muslims here all dress wearing their veils and such get up. How comes its ok for them 2 dictate how westerners dress when we havent got the “Free Speech” to do the samne. Theres millions of muslims over here imposing their s*** on us, so why shud we have to conform to their standards of life when they clearly wont conform to ours.

One rule for them, another for us.

Its bollocks if u ask me.

  14. Anonymous September 30, 2007

^^^Comment above your ignorant, i’m in London and those muslims, hindu’s and the other relious people wear those clothes cos it’s their religion and culture if Beyonce didn’t want to change her act or clothes which is fair enough she should keep her ass outta that country cos it’s their culture, religion and morals you can’t diss people’s beliefs and she would have done, ask yourself why Beyonce didn’t want to tone it down, I know s** sells but damn B you could have covered up it ain’t like she’s one of these non singing fools in the game who are just about looks Beyonce can sing so she should have performed for her fans

To the person that made the last post – For one, are you even sure they had called her for a concert or did Beyonce and her team establish this? If Beyonce and her team had done this, they should have been wise enough to do some research that a country, more dominantly filled with Muslim’s, would have asked for a more conservative approach.

If the situation were vise versa, where Kuala Lumpur had invited her and later stated the standards in which they wanted her to conform to, it was also their fault to invite her in the first place.

In my opinion, Beyonce could have accepted since one night of conservative clothing wouldn’t have hurt, but that’s not her style and in total, does not suit the sort of music she sings – so she did the right thing for everyone by not going to Malaysia.

I think both sides are to blame. Beyonce + Malaysia = Not a good mix. Kuala Lumpur shouldn’t have been on her concert listing at all.

For all those blaming Kuala Lumpur for not being open minded enough and asking for supposed ‘absurd’ standards – you guys commenting here are the ones who are narrow minded and interestingly enough, hypocritical at the least.

They are an entirely different country to the one you live in, they have their own legislation and rules that they have to conform to themselves. Stop thinking that every country has to be like your own. The Muslim’s that live in your area and every other western country, conform to YOUR countries standards, whilst carrying their Islamic duties at home and in privacy. I haven’t seen any Muslim complain as much as westerner’s do and this is plain hypocrisy.

My hat goes out to Kuala Lumpur, as well as Beyonce for declining their offer. They both resolved it, so get over it.

    Cheers,
    Excuse the essay.
