Clearly panicking over the opening sales and charting of Rihanna‘s new LP ‘Rated R’, her label have teamed up with Amazon to sell the album for the grand total of…$0.99 (yes, you read right…NINTY-NINE CENTS). {Source}
This is almost too pathetic for words, however I can’t see how either she or her label will legitimately be pleased with her eventual charting knowing that it’s selling for less than a Big Mac Meal…hell, it’s cheaper than a bottle of Coke!
Those in search of why I go in on Ms. Fenty so much, see here the reason why. I’m sorry but if concentrated promo, a major 20/20 interview and 50 singles can’t send enough folk to the shops to buy her record, then clearly there’s a problem – one which I’m afraid lies with RiRi herself…she’s wack, simple as. In being a ‘singer’ and ‘performer’ she offers nothing of substance on either tip, which I’m guessing is something which has registered with the record-buying public.

Sam, what REALLY bugs me about all your Rihanna hate is when you say things like this album is trash, without substance. Have you even heard it? Even if you don’t love every song, can’t you at least appreciate the vision behind it? This is actually an artistic statement. Unlike her last album, which was full of hits but not big on personality or creativity. Or Chris Brown’s latest, which sounds like a lot of decent songs but nothing special, just late-2009 RnB-by-numbers. Why do you seem to love so much commercial mediocrity but hate on Rihanna’s new work, which actually has DEPTH?
We KNOW she doesn’t have as good a voice as Beyonce, but since when does that matter? I like a lot of music sung by artists without “the best” voices.

lets be serious rihanna’s time is up, she was just lucky to have good producers/song writers on good girl gone bad. this time round she is just not so lucky. she does not have a great voice, nor can she perform well. i feel that in order to last in the business you generally need to have talent, or you will be easily replaced. look even though madonna and janet don’t have really strong voices, but at least they can entertain, they can dance etc. i also feel that she also knows that luck does not come around very often, therefore she is focusing more on her looks, in that case she should be a model.
its sad to see the state of music we are in, you just need to look pretty, parade around in the latest fashion, what they do in their private lives, depend on all the effects and theaterics rather than writing meaningful songs, singing live or just stripping away all the effects and just give pure entertainment. i am not going to generalize all of the artists, as there are still a handful of talent such as beyonce and alicia keys.

I’ve spent some time with Rated R and I’m not moved – neither was Rihanna. If anything, this album’s message sounds dated, trite and contrived.
A woman was scorned and abused and responds to such adversity with an eye for an eye. This message, esp. coming from Rihanna, seems as inauthentic as her 20/20 interview.
Like Rihanna, I’m not feeling the message, I’m not feeling the beats and I’m not feeling the lyrics. These songs were spoon-fed to her by writers and producers who hoped to take a tragic ordeal to commercially successful heights, but a lot is lost in translation.
If this album were dropped a couple months after her Brown ordeal it would have been far more palatable.
OMG. thats like £0.60 in GB pounds. No way. no one would ever sell there whole album for that much in the UK. thats less than 1 song of itunes!!!!!!
