Lauryn Hill Performs ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ In New Zealand

Hip-Hop/R&B icon Lauryn Hill performed her classic song ‘That Thing’ last evening. The lyricist made her appearance at Raggamuffin 2010 Hip-Hop/Reggae festival in New Zealand. Other performers included Sean Kingston and Shaggy.

Although her voice was a bit rough at some points, Hill shut it down! Watching this performance really makes me wonder about the state of women in Hip-Hop or even music in general for that matter. Hill is such a rare talent and it is baffling to believe that a lot of these younger girls even got a record contract in the first place. Rappers like Nicki Minaj and ‘singers’ like Cassie are a complete joke compared to her.

See Trent thats why I f#cks with you cause you keep it gully! We need Lauryn in the game bad. Women in hip hop are BORING! See back in the day we had Kim, Foxy, Lauryn, Missy.etc and music meant something. There was message in every song good or bad. It was worth listening to. These days music is trash! Few artist still have the ability to create a song with substancial meaning…feel me. Thanks for the vid. Bout to go watch old clips of Lauryn Hill!

Lauryn pleeeeease comeback! we can’t live in memories of great music and real talent of the 90s, we need artist like u to make us feel something, and get over something! Mary’s stll here but has changed her vibe, her music is now becoming more and more like the Rihannas, the Cassies and Beyonces, we need Lauryn so bad!

Honestly you guys need to do more research before talking s***. Lauryn Hill is solely reposnsiible for the state of her career. After her hit album she dissed her fans at multiple concerts where she refsued to sing her hits and insated drwoned us with her obvious poor mental state…Over the course of her career she has been uanble to separate her personal issues from her work hence she is where she is today.

I loved Miseducation but I have no interest in heariing her today if she is still f…ked up in the head

    We need Lauryn! BAD!
I still bump that women album in my car. My favorite songs of hers was
    Doo Wop(That Thang)
    Killing Me Softly
That joint she did with Nas(If I ruled the world)

and the list goes on. I wish it were more artist that concentrate on the Quality and not the Quantity.

Wooooow that festival looked great, I’m definately going next time. For those who say Lauryn has ‘lost’ it need to realise there’s more to the woman than hit songs – if you bothered to listen to her unreleased work you will see how a great singer, writer, mother she is. There is no one else now in the industry who has ever come close to her standards and passion of music and I commend her for stepping out of the industry to take care of what’s more important in life – family. For me personally I’m content with what she has already given us and anything else is just a bonus. To start appreciating her talent start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNajx1cD5T4

Damn Lauryn!!!! Where are u hiding???

  24. Renae January 27, 2010

Lauryn Hill is a perfect example of a woman who allowed a man to bring her all the way down, and even question her on sanity; and she has yet to start the recovery process. He pumped her full of kids, which she probably felt (like most women) would make him stay, and she lost herself in the process. The first thing Lauryn needs to do is get over this man, focus on raising her kids, being a great mother, and doing what makes her happy and if that includes performing music again so be it. Some women, no matter how powerful or how much money they have, allow these men to just control them. Lauryn being a perfect example!
