In a recent interview with David Owens from WalesOnline, Leona Lewis spoke about her next studio album. The Pop singer revealed that they project will feature a “different” and “fun” sound from her with early reports citing contributions from David Guetta, Ne-Yo and J.R. Rotem. “I think that’s going to be a bit different from what people have heard from me before,” she reveals. “I think that with going in different directions musically with the show, it’s given people a different vibe from what they had before, so it’s going to be different and fun. I’m just going to go in and create and just see what happens.” {Source}
Judging from the impressive footage from her ‘Labyrinth’ tour, it seems that Lewis is finally developing into a seasoned performer. While she has always be sonically talented, Lewis has always lacked the edge to make her interesting compared to her counterparts in the game today. Now, with her increasing creative control in her career, I sense that Lewis is finally going to make a record that will categorise her as more than just another wannabe Mariah Carey.
However, I hope Lewis does not go to the extreme in her effort to create her own identity. The last thing we need is another Christina Aguilera ‘let me take off my clothes, get some piercings and kiss girls to get some attention’ artist on our hands.

If you had listened to leona’s pre music before x factor you would know that leona had direction, and she has spent more years learning her trade than many artists out there today.
She had to sing the big balads because that is whay gets you noticed, but i am certain she loves the mariah’s of the world but her voice is already very distinctive, I would hate her to start to sound like eveybody else just to be accepted by you lot.
Lol a new sound from Leona is welcome…, I saw her in concert and while she nailed Run, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, JT’s Cry Me A River and MJ’s They Don’t Really Care About Us…, ironically it was her own material that failed to connect which told me she clearly isn’t really feeling it herself either. She was more on an Amel Larrieux vibe before X Factor so I feel they just de-souled her after that show. Point is, no one with a gift like she has could possibly be ‘Happy’ (sorry couldn’t resist) singing such drivel…,
Oh and Aguilera is a good example because neither was she and after the pop fluff of her first project she gave her audience something much more satisfying, and lastly the Xtina thing was deeper than it appeared. Basically, she was being labelled a s*** and a s**** from all corners of the industry so her response was ‘Ok, if you’re gonna call me a s**** I’ma be the best and biggest and most authentic s**** you’ve ever seen’.
In short, she took a label everyone was calling her anyway and made it work for her. I’d much rather an artist like Christina be sexual of her own choice than be another of the lost little girl acts singing about childish things while wearing knickers against their will.

The problem is that her international career was really based on ‘Bleeding Love’. She had a minor hit with ‘Better in Time’, but globally speaking, she’s still a bit of a one-hit-wonder. I think if she goes down the David Guetta/RedOne/J.R. Totem route, she could potentially seem really false and forced. I think her label really want to create personality and style for her, but it could seem an artificial ploy to sell records.
What I love about Alexandra Burke, who came from the X Factor too, is although she hasn’t sold half as many records as Leona, she has personality, sass and a distinctive sound.
Leona’s problem is that she built her first step of her career on either the epicness of ‘Bleeding Love’ or her ability as an incredible baladeer. If she changes her sound… it’s either going to completely reinvigorate her career, or cause it nosedive.
Fingers crossed this next era goes well for her!

Leona Lewis is about to be on top in ever single country, alllllll over again… With the right material, an up-tempo INCREDIBLE first single I know she can do it… When you do hear her random upbeats like “Outta my head”, “Scene of the crime”, “Danger Made me”, you can really see her potential. The high notes she can hit sound really really good in dance music, and from her performances on the tour it’s evident she is ready to do this… She even turned some of the songs more up-tempo in the tour (“Take a bow”)… It’s going to be sooo exciting to see her on top again because people won’t expect it, then they will hear a smash hit and be like WHOO IS THIS?? Annnnd if the single is good enough it will get tons of publicity because everyone will be like ‘Leona Lewis and her new sound’… soo yaaa I am super excited, and I’m not even a huge fan, I just know this girl has got it!!

Alexandra Burke has a distinctive sound ? now seriously ?. Her sound is that of a typical plastic ‘pop star’. What makes her different from all the other ‘pop stars’ ? Collaborations with the likes of flo rida and pitbull, armpit adverts ? Generic bubblegum pop ?
She is a no hit wonder outside of UK.

OK compared to Spirit Echo was a flop but its still a flop that’s sold 2 million copies and got to #1 in the UK – let’s face it you could have a pretty successful career if you kept turning out albums with those sales figures. She may be a one hit wonder in the US, but she has had 3 #1s and 2 #2s in the UK – and the vast majority of UK artists manage to have perfectly successful careers without ever having a US hit.

@ALEXANDERTG, You are absolutely spot on here. You spoke facts here. Let haters say what they want coz I know action speaks louder than words. Leona can do any track, whether ballads or uptempo. Personally, if she actually put Outta My Head as a lead single for Echo, I think this would have been a No.1 hit in the UK..its still the most popular track on that album.
I’m all for change and I know my gal Leona will show them how its done indeed. She is definitely one of the talented artists to come out in the UK in recent years.
Go Leona and prove ur critics wrong if you are putting changes in her next album..challenges is a great thing indeed
