Nicki Minaj Enlists Will.i.Am For Debut LP

Published: Saturday 24th Jul 2010 by Sam

It’s hard to believe that for all Nicki Minaj‘s success, her debut LP has yet to be released. Indeed, the collaboration-queen is still cooking up material for the as-yet-untitled record (which hits stores November 23rd).

With the likes of Swizz Beats and Sean Garrett already on board, Minaj revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that Will.i.am is the latest hitmaker to join the list of producers on the record.

Check out what she had to say of the Black Eyed Peas frontman’s contribution to the record, as well as the ‘surprises’ the LP boasts, after the jump…

Via EW:

Meanwhile, her untitled debut is still coming together. When asked if there’s anything new to announce, Minaj smiles coyly, and confesses a tiny tidbit: “I don’t want to say too much, but I just did some work with will.i.am.” Production work? A guest vocal of some sort? “Just something for my album that I’m really excited about,” is all she’ll say.

She’ll happily elaborate on the project as a whole. “The album is much more emotional than you anticipate, which is a great thing,” Minaj says. “And I know women are gonna connect to the album so much. I felt like for so many years I was the girl who did the catchy little raps, and it’s time for me now to tell my story, and in telling my story, I’m really telling every girl’s story. We all go through the same thing. So the album is gonna feel very personal to every female.”

Here’s hoping Will (who produced Usher’s ‘OMG’) can hook Ms. Minaj up with some undeniable hit material. For, despite dropping many a hot verse on other artists’ tracks, the Young Money star’s solo efforts to-date have been lukewarm at best (see: ‘Massive Attack’ and ‘Your Love’). A shame, as the 25 year old certainly brings a much-needed new energy to the music scene.

In any case, time will tell…

    @NIC

Your Love has been #18 for 2 weeks now, so it looks like it might have reached its peak…unless Nicki goes out and starts promoting it, I think it might start falling down the charts

SMH TRYING TOO HARD, YOU CAN TELL THE PRESSURES TO DELIVER HAS GOTTEN TO HER, SHE DONT KNOW WHAT DIRECTION OR ANYTHING TO GO WITH HER ALBUM. WILL I AM, IS LAE HIS SOUND GETTING REDUNDANT AND JUST LIKE THE FUTURISTIC WAVE TIMBERLAND HAD GOING ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO….IT TOO WILL PASS. ALL THESE ARTIST NEED TO MAKE MUSIC FROM THEM AND THATS ORGANIC FROM THE HEART, NOT WHATS TRENDY NOW. SMH.

I’m really trying to like Nicki Minaj…
    but idk what to say.
I think she’s really popular but she hasn’t
really had much success music wise.
Her fanbase isn’t big like Drake’s so
idk how her album will be.

  18. annon July 25, 2010

yeah damn shame. but i cant deny that she sucks on her own. in other songs, she spits fire. but on her own song, i feel she experiments too much. so, yeah time will tell. if she is deep and emotional as she claimed, the album might do very well, just that i would prefer her to go the more uptempo dance record which will.i.am hopefully can deliver.

  19. Brown Sistas Go to War July 25, 2010

I don’t care who she has on her album, if she doesn’t start representing brown-skin barbies, then I am going to boycott her and call on every other chocolate brown to do the same. Brown-skin barbies are exempt from Your Love and Massive Attack videos. If she wants our money, then we demand to be represented. If you look at Nicki’s live performances on youtube, there are so many brown-skin barbies showing her love and support. Therefore, we demand it in return.

The same with the Pinkett-Smith clan, if they don’t start showing black love, then we will declare war on them too.

The Brown Sistas are no longer happy with seeing a black artist doing well and making money, we are demanding that if they want our money, then we want our representation. NOW!!!

  20. JoshuaBuzz July 26, 2010

Your Love is a smash. End of.
