The Rihanna comparisons are really hurting her. It’s hard not to think RIhanna when looking at her. She can sing, but it’s hard to know which direction they are taking her in.
Even when Rihanna came out, they pushed her as the “Island Girl” which was completely something the masses hadn’t seen at yet.
I’m definitely a Rihanna stan, but I’m hesitant to stand behind Rita because TGJ keeps comparing her to Rihanna. I don’t need to stan for TWO Rihannas. If they built her up as something else, I would be all over this girl…..RihannaNavy like their Rihanna and don’t take to nicely to having someone else meant to “dethrown” Rih. Just promote her as a new artist, and you might find she could have more followers.

There is no Rihanna comparison. Have you heard Rita sing? She blows Rihanna away just in voice alone. In order for there to be a Rihanna comparison, they would have to find some big headed girl with a stupid accent from some slum village in the Caribbean who can’t sing or dance a lick, but gets outfitted in songs by hot producers, then they would have to pair her up with a guy who beats the s*** out of her and then try to market that victim status for more fame.
When they do that, then the RIhanna comparisons will be just. But a girl with a real voice, a real command of the stage and real hair can’t be compared to Rihanna, because Rihanna has none of those things.

I agree! Rita is going to be big. The only people who won’t like her will be R******’s stupid fan base (I refuse to call them ‘Navy,’ because a real navy would get their pop star a #1 album) because they see the shift happening and are threatened by it…and also those homely, dopey girls who tend to be resentful of gorgeous females looks and talent because it makes them feel unpretty, and so instead they cling to plain jane, talentless, ridiculously flawed types like Rihanna because she’s not blessed enough to make anyone feel insecure about anything.
The rest of the music listening public are going to be down with Rita, because Rita has all the elements that makes a pop star: talent, personality/swag, good looks and catchy songs.
Rita is a knockout AND she can sing too AND she has the backing of Jay-Z (who is investing beaucoup money into getting her established.) It’s not often that you see someone who doesn’t even have an album out yet covering magazines and going on lavish photo shoots. I honestly see no comparisons to Rihanna’s “look” in Rita. Rita wears brighter colors, heavier makeup and is MUCH more sleek and “vampy” overall. But even if there are similarities in their presentation, I’m sure Rita pulls it off much better. I just think Rita is a lot more attractive than Rihanna.
Don’t see many if any similarities between Rita and Rihanna, actually. Rihanna is darker, Rita’s style is more colorful & exuberant. Rita looks more like a combination of Gwen Stefani and Beyonce than she does Rihanna.
Whatever Sam and his cohorts are doing is obviously working. Rita has already becoming a much talked about name in the urban-pop blogosphere (which is spilling over into message board chatter and YouTube/VEVO video views) and posts about her are generating more comments than posts about some more established acts. She barely has a single out, yet everybody seems to have an opinion about her already. And from what I’ve seen the buzz about her has been largely positive — except of course from Rihanna fans, who’re threatened by the idea that she might become the new “It”-girl. lol
Rita is a pretty girl, I’ll give her that. But, as far as the Rihanna comparisons goes, I’m not seeing it. She has a nice voice, but she just doesn’t have that “IT” factor to me that Rihanna has. Rihanna is by no means the best singer out there. But, I think what helps in her favor is the fact that she has “IT”, and she has personailty. Rita seems a little boring to me. Pretty voice, but boring nevertheless.
What personality does Rihanna have? She’s as boring as sin on stage; doing nothing more than walking back and forth…and in all her videos, they use a bunch of blue screen and camera effects to make it look more interesting because her own presence does little to enhance things. How is Rita boring? When I look at her, I see someone who is enthused about performing and is bursting with energy. When I look at Rihanna, I see someone who clings hard to the rehearsal script and basically window-dresses throughout the whole routine trying to mask the fact that she is fatally limited. If Rita is performing to a backing track that can be queued up, I can imagine that she would continue to perform for the crowd a capella. If Rihanna is performing to a backing track that malfunctions, the show is over.

I don’t know why people are so harsh on her…Its not like she came at Roc Nation talkin bout “HI i’m Rita, I want to replace RIhanna” No, this has been a decision clearly made by Roc Nation…so Titantic that is who your beef is with. They have always taken advantage of her. Roc Nation has done little to help Ri get out of her 360 deal with def jam or given her the tools to create an empire and an image that will be long-lasting. Rihanna honestly has so much potential but she waste it all doing all the wrong things. So if you were real fans you would be less concerned about RIta and Beyonce, and more concerned about Rihanna and the direction of her career.
As for Rita, I dont think her first album is going to be a smash and not sure if she will even get a Billboard top 10…but she has so much potential I can honestly feel it in my bones. I don’t support her only because she is here to replace RIhanna, that is just a fact. I have genuine interest in her. Hopefully she wont disappoint. She needs to try to make a mark and see what works for her with this first project. Then she needs to experiment with her sound and image so that she will constanly evolve. Roc Nation has put a lot of effort into her (i.e. Jay introducing her to the U.S. radios, a Drake penned song that was original made for Ri, three videos..and so on and so forth) Labels don’t generally do this for new artist that arent already established….The have a lot of faith in her and it is definitely for a reason.
There are videos from 2 years ago where rita still had this style. rihanna copied her with the hair, vibtage clothes red lipstick etc. she copied rita before her debut because she knew her spark was fading. rita ora is a better singer. i will be buying her album when it comes out

Agreed.. And also “predicted” to make $125-Million domestic U.S.. But that “only” sums-up to $425-Million. And $425-Million is NOT the $450-Million that is the “final, get-to-theater” cost for “Battleship”. You see, 1.4 X “known costs = the threshold for profit for a film. So 1.4 X 450-million = $630-Million! So far, going into this weekend, “Battleship” has made $150-Million overseas. So, in order for ‘Battleship’ NOT TO FAIL, it has to climb a $480-Million mountain. And did I fail to mention that “Avengers” opens this weekend, overseas? It’s doing quite well: $158-Million – bad, bad news for ‘Battleship’!!

And as said, according to deadline(dotcom), it’s projected to do $300-M overseas, and according to boxoffice(dotcom) it’s projected to do $125-M U.S. BUT these figures are from a perfect world without word-of-mouth, or OTHER films competing for the same consumer-discretionary dollar. Here, U.S. domestic, ‘Battleship’ is facing serious bad reviews, and even worse word-of-mouth: “Transformers rip-off.!!” And overseas, it NOW must compete with “Avengers”, which, as said, is itself projected to return $150-Million for its opening weekend.
But, as I’d said, that $425-Million is dwarfed by the $630-Million it NOW must return in order for it NOT to fail. So far, it’s only managed to return, that aforementioned, $150-Million going into that “U.S. opening storm” of bad reviews and ‘armada sinking’ word-of-mouth: “Transformers rip-off”.

I think YOU should Google a film Rihanna’s co-star, Taylor Kitsch, had JUST starred in: “John Carter”. It too, as is ‘Battleship’, is known in the movie business as a “Tent-pole Film”. Meaning, much is invested in them, as they’re expected to return enough to carry a movie studio’s fortunes far-into the many-upcoming financial quarters. “John Carter” roughly cost the same $250-Million as ‘Battleship’. And has the same P/A (prints and advertising) budget of OVER $100-Million – NOT including the recently additional $50-Million added to the promotion budget. BUT, it just cost Disney studios a $200-Million write down. “John Carter” is such a financial disaster that the head of Disney Studios was just forced to resign!
