As fans know, no two singers have paid more homage to the late great Whitney Houston than ‘The Boy Is Mine’ co-stars Brandy & Monica. So, it would only be fitting that they would take to tonight’s stage to tribute their idol in what many will say came as the highlight of the 2012 BET Awards.
Kicking off with Monica’s soul-stirring rendition of ‘I Love the Lord’ followed by Brandy’s electric ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’/‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ medley, the two divas blazed the stage like never before in Houston’s honor.
With excitement still at a high from the showing(s), Mo took to Twitter to share a snap of the two backstage. As ever, we at That Grape Juice salute Whitney and Monica/Brandy for being the reminders that there are still vocalists left who nurture their crafts without the assistance of studio magic! I have not seen Brandy perform at an award show in over a decade and I was so proud!! I have been waiting for the world to see what she’s capable of. I am sure WHitney is looking down proud of that performance. I hope Bran gained the confidence to get on any stage and kill!! SHe was awesome!

The tribute to Whitey Houston was absolutely beautiful. Monica and Brandy made me so proud and I salute Ms. Cissy for the wonderful way in which she honored her daughter. Chaka Khan also did amazing.
Brandy’s Vocals SLAYED!!! THE RUNS HONEY!!! THE CONTROL!!! they knew she was the only one who could rip the up-tempo songs…monica did well also but I was more so impressed by Brandy…Even Beyonce was ecstatic to see Brandy

Monica slayed! I know people will try to overlook Monica’s vocal performance, but she slayed, soul, & POWER! When she did that one note in the beginning, & she opened up her mouth & sustained that note, I was like YES!

Anyways, both of my girls did an excellent job!!! That is how a tribute supposed to be!!! BET actually redeemed themselves after that horrible MJ tribute twice, the first one when MJ died, and Chin Brown performance with him crying like a moron on national tv, and still going on like a jackass and didn’t learn a damn ass thing!!! They finally got artists that were close to Whitney and didn’t pick random people and wack artisst aka Rhianna!!! Good job BET!!!

So pround of Brandy and Monica. They definitley held their own and were the best of the night. From Monica soulful redition and from Brandy bringing the heat to the stage with rasp and the runs took me higher. Whintey would be so proud. So emotional right now.
Both Brandy & Monica did an AMAZING job. I was especially proud of Brandy because she was in a totally different zone and brought back that confidence she once had on stage when she first came out. As they say, “Brandy DID THAT!!!”
Still saddend at the loss of the beautiful late ms Whitney Houston however so touched by the strength and bravery of her loved ones who continue to honor her memory and endure. A beautiful tribute this was! Brandy definately held it down in honor of her idol as everyone has always known. what a beautiful moment Cissy Chaka everyone… just beautiful!

Bran was the business!!!!!!!!! People forget Whitney had uptempo hits too. She wasn’t just singing a bunch of sad songs throughout her career. I’m just so glad Brandy got to tribute her idol. There was more of a range with her being apart of it. It was amazing.
Monica sounded really good and I noticed into it she was towards the end. It’s was a great tribute! Cissy did get me a little emotional too. I was so lost in the moment that I started tearing up. It was excellent.

Brandy was AMAZING…simply wonderful…I didn’t expect that from her, and I didn’t expect her to sing IYBT/IWDWS! Everything about her performance was just on point! Her performance was the highlight for me, being Brandy’s first televised awards show performance in over a decade…Really big for Bran!
Cissy was just phenomenal…Emotions just pouring out…I wanted to cry…she’s such a strong woman.
Wow! I havent seen Brandy hit a stage n a lonnnnnnnnng time and she Slayed! Them vocals reminded me of Whitney! I knew she was gonna kill it!

This was by FAR the best tribute of them all. Monica KILLLLLLLLLED it and so did Ms Houston, those songs were so moving . Monica has some serious power in her voice. Brandy did a great job dancing and reminding us that Whitney had great up tempos . Her brother Gary sounded great as well. This was a tribute WHITNEY would’ve loved and that’s who it’s about.
