Rihanna may have whipped up an impressive buzz for her new single ‘Diamonds‘ last week, but it seems her ‘Navy’ aren’t as sold on the song as they had previously let on.
Reason being?
Well, despite helping the star generate over 2,000 comments on a single article right here on That Grape Juice upon the cut’s release, the fan base failed to purchase enough copies of the song to secure it a Top Ten position in this week’s Hot 100 tally.
A tally, which saw ‘Blow’ star Kesha fare better than ‘We Found Love’ singer with her latest single.
Details below…
In at #16 is ‘Diamonds‘, spending its launch week outside of the Top Ten despite the momentum it garnered hours after release- and a promising few days on a digital front.
At #13 is Kesha with ‘Die Young’ which moved a sweet 188,000 units in the last week- surpassing Rihanna’s sales by 57,000 copies.
This, before the December 4th release of the singer’s LP ‘Warriors’ and one month before the release of Fenty’s seventh studio album ‘Seven‘, which will need ‘Diamonds’ to rise on the chart if it match or better the first week sales of her 2010 effort ‘Loud’.

Hmmm, debuting outside the Top 10? I’m surprised. That said, “Diamonds” is a wild card for her and not the predictable Pop song she could have released to “whip everyone into a frenzy”. I’m guessing she’ll still do well regardless, it’s probably not the strongest song on the album. “You Da One” also peaked in the Top 20, #14 and it went Platinum. Even “Talk That Talk” didn’t have a video and went Gold so there’s no stopping Rihanna on a singles front really. She’ll still outsell every other Pop/RnB female. Only Katy Perry and Adele can really match her.

Consider this in the context of Taylor Swift, who’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together exploded out of the box and saw sales run far ahead of initial airplay.

I was expecting Kesha to have debuted WAY higher than Rihanna according to the post title. Then I read the placement….then I read copies sold and I thought there had to be a misprint. Kesha sold 3X the amount Rihanna sold…yowza!
I think Rihanna’s song is a harder sell because its not especially radio friendly or catchy. The day it was released, I heard the song 3x on the radio and still couldn’t remember the melody, chorus, nothing. That’s kinda important for a radio friendly song, it should be easily recognizable and stick in your head. Kesha’s song, I’ve heard less but vaguely remember the melody, after reading someone’s comment above. It’s not a better song but its “catchier”. Congrats to both ladies though.

Rihanna Is Top 5 on Forbes’ Highest-Paid Women in Entertainment
Rihanna can add another ranking to her list of accomplishments. The 24-year-old singer landed at No. 4 on Forbes’ Highest Paid Women in Entertainment list in a tie with talk show mogul Ellen DeGeneres. Rih Rih earned a cool $53 million this year from all of her performances, album sales, endorsement deals and other business ventures. She is the second highest-paid Black woman on the list with Oprah Winfrey still holding the No. 1 spot

Diamonds is the only lead song from a Rihanna album I haven’t liked. Despite that, I like the direction she’s going in with it. I just hope she has better songs lined up.
I like the fact with Ri you can never tell which way she’s going to go. I was expecting an album along the lines of Birthday Cake for some reason. Clearly not.

You know, as someone who is not a huge fan of any of the two, I find it funny how Rihanna’s fan base ALWAYS seem to bring out Beyoncé (who can hit a higher note that Rihanna just by sneezing) as an excuse EVERY TIME Rihanna has an underwhelming release. (TTT(song and album), and ‘Diamonds’ for example).
I’m expecting to see a lot of pressed Navy me,bees commenting on this, but none of them can argue with me if when I say that their fave is talentless, something which the whole music industry agrees on.
And to whoever dared to call Beyoncé’s songs ‘”mediocre music” clearly knows nothing about production and vocals, “4″ had one of the best instrumentals of the last 5 years, let alone the vocals in ‘I Care’/'IWH’/'Start Over’ and every other song on the album, whereas ms. Fenty can’t help but auto tune every song on TTT, and even ‘Diamonds’.
Let alone the fact that the album that they call a flop managed to reach a higher first week sale than EVERY ALBUM OF RIHANNA’S DICOGRAPHY with a leak 3 weeks before and NO top 10 single.
I have countless more examples but I won’t waiste any more of my time to prove something that is quite clear.
Congrats to Rihanna on another top 20 hit, I like ‘Diamonds’ to be honest and I expected a higher debuted as did everybody.
