Diamonds isn’t a ballad, but it’s slow/mid-tempo and it’s Top 5. It will surprise the f*ck out of me if releasing the video/SNL promo doesn’t push it to number 1. That CB collaboration is just sad. She can have every seat in Satan’s amphitheater for playing that card again, and he can sit down right next to her for all I care.

TBH this doesn’t SOUND as rushed as TTT. Most of the snippets seem to have some substance which is what her last album lacked. There seems to be SOME clear cohesion and the overall tone of it is consistent.
I didn’t care for the uptempo songs or the ones with superficial lyrics though.

For example, “B’day” had sold 7 million as of Feb 2008 and probably it is at 9 million now if you count digital sales.

In just a few weeks, she’s dropping her 7th album since 2005 (here’s a recap of her previous releases), which means we’ll be getting another batch of songs to make sure she’s perpetually in our ears.“Diamonds,” the first track from the new album, just appeared today, and it sounds like yet another smash.And here’s the best part: Unlike Ke$ha’s new song, which I dissed for sounding too much like her other material, “Diamonds” is a step in a different direction. Yes, it’s co-produced by Stargate, who have been delivering Rihanna hits since “Umbrella,” and yes, it’s got the electro sound that Rihanna herself helped popularize. But still, the song is not a lazy copy of what’s come before.
For one thing, Rihanna practically sounds like a different vocalist. She sings the song—about how she and her lover are pulsing like “diamonds in the sky”—in a low register she hasn’t used on any of her other singles. Her voice is so husky that she almost sounds like she has a cold, and it gives “Diamonds” a certain… sobriety? Calmness? There’s something moody about the vocal, but it’s more contemplative than seductive. This is a track for the middle of the night, when you’re a tired but still want to move.

Though it’s still built around a hypnotic beat and shimmery keyboard, “Diamonds” sounds more like the kind of song you would put on after the club, as you stumble out and into the moonshine to “find light in the beautiful sea.” More spare and understated than the yellow diamond strewn “We Found Love,” it gives Rihanna space to take the lead and play. This sort of light experimentation makes us wonder if this seventh might be an album where Rihanna takes the reigns of her sound and does more than just make us dance.

Rihanna delivers a very raw and earnest vocal performance on the Sia-penned song as her voice reaches its upper register. Even though Rihanna releases new albums like there’s no tomorrow, the pop singer manages to change up her sound with “Diamonds.” There’s definitely not a hint of the song that seems like it was slapped together last minute.

I appreciate that Stargate and co-producer Benny Blanco maintain a mid-tempo pace throughout. I’d expect a song that begins this slowly to eventually get frantic, like “We Found Love,” but it maintains a relaxed vibe, relying on strings as much as synths to make an impact. And of course, this adds to the sense that “Diamonds” is for heavier moments in the night.

-When Talk That talk only had 10 tracks on the standard edition, it was not rushed.
-When Talk That Talk did not even have a singer to do backup vocals for half the song so ester dean’s demo vocals were left in You Da One, Talk That Talk, We all want love, Farewell, Cockiness and Roc Me Out it was not rushed.
-When #TTT was recording in hotel rooms next to cabinets of achohol it was not rushed but this is.

Those claiming this is rushed are so clearly blinded by hate. You know I dont even like Rih like that anymore but the direction of thid album seems extremely concise. It doesn’t seem full of fillers the same way TTT was. The songs seem to have some substance and the overall tone seems to mesh well.
I cant hate. I think a lot of the snippets sound good with the exception of the artificial sounding songs.

Why did they call this rapper (Future) to join on ‘Loveeeeeee Song’? His rap is lame! He sounds like a wannabe Lil’ Wayne meets autotune. Urgh! Crap.
Everything I heard sounds like leftovers from Talk That Talk. Surprisely, the only good song is ‘Nobody’s Business’, it sounds very Michael Jackson-ish; but the others… OMG! They sound like something Ciara would reject. Diamonds is so out of place on this album.

My favorites songs are What Now, Get It Over With and Nobodys Business; the rest is painful. Diarrheamonds sound okay, but her vocals ruin it.
She sounds great on ‘What Now’. That’s how she should’ve sung Diamonds. I like her it sounds like a midtempo song, but there are also influences of dubstep.

I’ll say it, Fresh out the Runway just feels so Bey inspired! I honestly thought Rihanna had more edge to her, but that was really forced! I guess she’s no longer soooo hard!
Love with out tragedy – I’m so sick of people dropping Marilyn Monroe’s name. It’s played now! This is actually very meh … It sounds like one of those songs pretentious people will try to make more out of than there actually is.
Lost in Paradise – is not bad! See, ya’ll thought this was going to be all hate. This one has something to it.
Loveeeeeeee – This feels honest. It’s the best track! The way she’s singing and everything has more passion.
The good thing about this is that it doesn’t sound like Gaga, Ke$ha(who I like), Katy music , etc … but this sounds like TTT 2.0 so far! That album was all kinds of confusion.
Rihanna is trying so hard to be hood, rockstar and trendy. I need her to take her time and give me something real. She can be versatile(somewhat), that’s great – but it’s like her music doesn’t ever have any sincerity. If it did Rihanna would own her own lane. It’s kind of frustrating … I’m probably not going to like this girl until she either stop following trends or until she’s probably not on the charts anymore and making music that doesn’t have a formula to it. You hear 3 songs from Rihanna and you heard them all, but there’s actually more to her. I just think she’s scared to do it right now!

… Still had to correct myself once again. I just figured it out. I hate the first half and the second is solid. I thought that I liked Loveeee song, but it’s annoying! I hate the first 5 tracks (except Numb). The order of the album would easily give you a bad impression right away. I’m glad those songs are all together because the Navy I know will be playing this album and I can just excuse myself until song #6 plays.
I’m officially impressed with Numb, Jump, Right Now (Maybe), What Now, Stay, Get It Over with, Lost in paradise (No Love Allowed can grow on me). It’s the most songs I ever like on a Rihanna album. It’s getting there! Good for her!
The album is a 7/10. I respect it!

Hmm. So I’ve given the album a listen and it’s overall rubbish. …but with a few exceptions:
1) no love allowed
2) what now (I actually love love this)
3) the song with Chris Brown
4) half of me (my fav and it’s thanks to the brilliant emeli sande for her writing skills) rihanna’s best song yet!
The maybes/ok songs:
1) fresh off the runway (coz I’m a bit high right now and the rap sounded good)
2) get over it (for the same reason as the first song)
3) lost in paradise (like the beat)
So out of the 5000 songs on her album to have only 4 standouts and 3 album fillers is a bad thing! !! This was your redemption album after the hot cheetto mess that was TTT the flopuluous one
