We may be but a few days into 2013, yet the dreaded “pushback” has reared its head once again. This go round it’s rapper J. Cole on the receiving end.

Details after the jump…

The Roc Nation star previously announced that his hotly anticipated sophomore set ‘Born Sinner’ would arrive on his 28th birthday on  January 28th.

However, in a new interview at a New Year’s Eve party he hosted at Tao Las Vegas, the MC confirmed that the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’ has been pushed back – citing his need for more time. The project has thus far spawned one single, ‘Miss America’.

See what he had to say, via PopStop TV, below…

As endearing as the “tirelessly working on it” explanation is, it sadly can’t take away the fact that Cole doesn’t yet enjoy the luxury of being able to not follow through on promises while maintaining high interest.

‘The Sideline Story’ may have sold an impressive 600,000+ copies in the US, however there are countless artists before and after him who have sold more initially only to fizzle with the swiftness due to so-so roll-out of follow-up releases. Here’s hoping J. Cole doesn’t suffer a similar fate. He’s too talented.

Indeed, on the merit of his skill and his buzz, the first album should have scanned Platinum had all played out as it should have. Now is the time to right those wrongs. Fingers crossed all involved ensure that happens.

Your thoughts?

Call me I, can’t I want to formally introduce myself. I like Beyonce and Rihanna and will find any excuse to shade Ciara………………..

I’m not here for him anymore. Kendrick gives life. You J Cole is just a tad bit boring… You and Wale great talents just nothing about you speaks to me…

Got me good failed to chart anywhere. Not even the bubbling under charts in any territory. Chile…

Please educate yourself Sam. Cole told his fans literally days after the announcement that the album will more than likely be released later than that date. He admitted it was a long shot & he would’ve WANTED that to be the date since its his birthday.

As said above, he’s pushed back projects before. It’s all good.

I think he should’ve signed with another label. He’s not getting the push that he needs to really break out as a star. Side note…The only Hip Hop album that I am listening nonstop right now… is Kendrick Lamar, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.

I really like J Cole. He is an actual talent. I hate that he is under selfish ass Joe Camel. He will never allow anyone to outshine him no matter how talented. I wish he was under someone else! This “in do time crap” is really getting old. I wish he was at the least signed to Kanye. Kan has no problem supporting and promoting his artists no matter how WACK like 2 Chanzs WACK ASS!
