New Song: Emeli Sande – ‘Crazy In Love (Beyonce Cover)’

Published: Tuesday 30th Apr 2013 by David

Emeli Sande and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra team up to cover Beyonce‘s smash hit ‘Crazy In Love’, in aid of Baz Lurhman’s forthcoming movie, ‘The Great Gatsby‘.

Unveiled to the world one week before the flick’s soundtrack drops on May 7th, the Jazz driven cover marks one of the best renditions of the song to emerge since Antony and the Johnsons did it justice back in 2009.

Enjoy both below!

i’m sorry but this is horrible….i understand what they were trying to do, but this is under-produced, lazy, and uninspired. the least they could’ve done was add more vocals to the song and Emile could’ve gave her voice more of a 20s era vibe to fit the atmosphere of the movie. there’s no way you can take an iconic song like “Crazy In Love” and dumb it down so far…this cover can have a row of seats at the barclays center…

Because you’re the “expert” on that era of music, right? Seedy stan, stfu!

    • princeldarion April 30, 2013

i agree. all they did was change the beat. it needed to be changed up a bit more

  3. JARED (WHITE DUDE) April 30, 2013

    This is very nice.

I love the ‘1940’s-50’s, Jazz/Swing- throwback’ sound it carries.

    Yes Emeli… 🙂

    • Mary-Ann Tatum April 30, 2013

      20’s dear!!!!

      • JARED (WHITE DUDE) April 30, 2013

        …’40s/50s’ dear.

The orchestration in this song is relative to ‘Be-Bop’ and ‘Swing’, a derivative of Jazz that started in the 1940’s; 1920’s Jazz was much less refined.

        I know… 🙂

  11. Lmao April 30, 2013

This made me realize how much larger and stronger Beyonce’s voice is than Emeli’s, but this version is nice as well. Different vibe (obviously) but still a good cover.

  14. the voice April 30, 2013

ok, I know jayz is exec producer of the soundtrack but they should have let Emile sing her own song. She is a better writer.

Also, I luv TGJ but why are they only reporting on Emile when it is something connected to Beyonce.

Emile is now #15 on US itunes. She has been doing great TV appearances in US which yall have ignored.

Her star is rising in the US. She will do the Essence Festival & Lallapolooza in the summer.

Also, she is doing a US summer tour… I will go see her in Dallas at the House of BLues this summer.

    • bey fan April 30, 2013

I first Emeli on this site….they might cover her as much as they do the bigger pop stars, but thats to be expected

  15. mc the place to be! April 30, 2013

  16. Hive April 30, 2013

  17. Slayrita Legendora April 30, 2013

This b**** already got dragged off the UK charts by the Queen Rita. Emeli Flopde has bowed down and out! Oop! POW!

    • . : : h 2 o : : . April 30, 2013

And how many albums did Rita sell LESS than her?

    • whenindoubtthetruthwillout April 30, 2013

Then why has Emeli entered the Guinness Book of Records for having a debut album spend the most weeks in the top ten.Her album has now been in the UK top ten for 63 consecutive weeks, beating the previous record held by The Beatles for 50 years. When did Rita achieve that? Let me know because I must have missed it!!!

    • the voice April 30, 2013

      Rita aint draggin nobody….

Emilie sold over a million CDs in the UK and…

she is in top 20 on US itunes…. Rita cant do that.

How many albums has Rita’ s debut CD sold in UK??

Rita aint even gold in her own country yet… Emile is 5 x platinum in the UK

I don’t listen to covers unless they’re done by my favs, but that pic looks all kinds of manly. I always hated it!

  21. HOWYOULIKEIT April 30, 2013

    Child please

  22. NΛVI April 30, 2013

Mess! Beyonce needed to stay off this soundtrack cause her contribution didn’t do anything for it, she always wants to b*** her egotistical ass into every darn thing. Fergie, Lana, Sia and Florence did the darn thing.

  23. rihking April 30, 2013

    MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!!

    • Teah April 30, 2013

NO I THINK YOU MEAN ITS MUCH BETTER THAN ANYTHING THAT RIHSPLICE HAS DONE. STOP WITH ALL THAT LYING RIHMEDIAL.

  24. danny b April 30, 2013

You know, for all the flop haters and trolls that stay claiming Beyoncé doesn’t have any classic songs that can stand the test of time, if nothing else, Crazy In Love is definitely her classic song and this cover proves it. It’s been 10 years since CIL was released and its still relevant. Just because it’s not an I Will Always Love You or a Vision Of Love doesn’t mean its not a classic. Beyoncé has her own style and CIL is a BEYONCE song that has had major impact. So haters need to sit.

Second, Emeli is my favorite current artist of the moment so when I saw she was covering my all time fav artist I fell out in excitement. And she definitely delivered. What more could I ask for.

    • whenindoubtthetruthwillout April 30, 2013

Yes it’s a classic song but that’s thanks to the songwriter who wrote it,not the people who perform it!!!

      • danny b April 30, 2013

First off, Beyoncé did co-write Crazy In Love so know youre facts. Second, so bc someone doesn’t write the song means its not their classic? So I Will Always Love You isn’t a Whitney Houston classic since she didn’t write it? And My Heart Will Go On isn’t a Celine Dion classic bc she didn’t write it?? Or Respect by Aretha Franklin??? Please you sound dumb.

Everyone always wants to hold a double standard to Beyoncé bc they don’t want to ever give her hr credit but in the end, its haters like you that look and sound dumb bc you don’t know what youre talking about.

  25. princeldarion April 30, 2013

yeah whatever, that Emeli version is garbage but why is no one talking bout the Antony and the Johnsons version? loving that version

  26. Musik_Lover May 1, 2013

I like Emeli’s version it was different & certainly stripped down. But everyone over here complaining, but we all know that she had to get clearance by Beyonce & Co. before she could record a cover of this song and have it featured on this soundtrack. So haters of Emeli’s version & Beyonce’s version need to have several and show receipts for where their name is in the credits of the movie soundtrack.
