New Song: Ashanti – ‘I Got It (Ft Future)’

Published: Wednesday 3rd Jul 2013 by David

With the likelihood of the world scoring a new Ashanti album this year slim to none, the performer continues on in her bid to hold onto her fans with a brand new song named ‘I Got It‘.

Featuring ‘Love Song’ mastermind Future, this number joins the long list of jams from the star that are good but not great- sufficient enough to appease the fans but far too ‘basic’ for what Ashanti is.

Lest we forget, there was a time that Beyonce and Ashanti stood as rivalling contemporaries- and while the latter’s material should be telling of her time in the industry, it says more of the lack of creativity flowing through her cause’s veins.

Basically, you’ll forgot  that you heard the song by this time tomorrow.

Umm its a cute summer song! I like it. Nothing to right home about it, but its a cool song.

    • toohofortv July 3, 2013

Yeah, it’s cool… You have to give her credit for trying a new flow and timbre (in regards to a vocal). She has definitely come a long way in the vein of a singer. cuz chile……

Very good, I liked a lot but Ashanti needs to do something new to be recognized. I don’t hear nothing amazing from her since “The Way That I Love You”. If she doesn’t start working with new producers that can give her some hit like Darkchild, Timbaland, Jermaine Dupri, RedOne, Kanye West and others, she will flop forever…
And this is sad ’cause I really like her.

    • BITCHPLEASEEEEE July 3, 2013

I F****** CO-SIGN CUZ I REALLY LOVE ASHANTI TOO SINCE I SAW FOOLISH VIDEO. I HOPE SHE IS READING ABOUT THIS. 🙁

    • sammi July 3, 2013

Doesn’t it cost a lot of money to work with big name people like the ones you mentioned? I feel bad for her too because she hit the game hard with “The way that I loved you”. They played that song multiple times an hour on all the major stations. One of my favs by her. I was/am an Ashanti fan but I haven’t liked anything since TWTILY.

so let me get this straight, this song is so whack, and yet you still posted it..yea

the issue with ashanti is that she has never been a great singer..she has great songs, classic songs, but she’s not a great singer..

her first album was the business, classic album..true r&b album….

she lost me after that good good song she put out…

but I do f*** with ashanti….even after that good good crap….all she needs is a huge label behind her

    • sammi July 3, 2013

I wonder if Irv Gotti blacklisted her in the business or something.

  4. Ciarastan July 3, 2013

AyE THS S*** GO!!!!!! Download* I guess she think since future brought ciara career back from the grave that she may ave a chance….it’s not like The declaration was a bad album just bad promo from The Inc. she even had a hit on There remember “Good Good”

  5. IDK July 3, 2013

I like it too. I never thought I would see the day Ashanti would be searching for a Hit. She is very talented.

  6. Yea Whateva July 3, 2013

Yea that’s right Sam, put my comment in moderation because I dragged your ass for dissing Ashanti! You’re a nobody, who’s miserable because you can’t get an interview!

  7. JER July 3, 2013

    Ashanti.

    Honey.

    Sweetie.

    Just stop.

Ashanti releases these random ass songs and never does anything with them. Get behind a song mama and ride it. ACTUALLY write an album, put it together, and release it. Quit talking about what you may or may not release at some point. SO OVER IT

    • TheOuyonB July 3, 2013

If it was that easy, everyone would have an album out. The business is not that simple. Without the right machine in place, it’s virtually impossible to release a successful album. No matter who the artist is. Budget is everything.

      • JER July 3, 2013

b*******. She’s supposed to be independent gurlbye

  8. Slick Rick July 3, 2013

This site… SMH… you have a great lyrically strong r&b hip hop song and you down it like its not even worth it!! but yet you post generic s*** like grown woman and standing on the sun… and the cheap s*** rihanna has poorly sung… i guess when you stand for the sound you came in with and havent jumped on the band wagon you are not worth it huh

    • Navy Sailor July 3, 2013

Don’t down Beyonce and Rihanna. This song is NOT good lyrically. It’s b*******. Deal.

    • Yea Whateva July 3, 2013

@SlickRick, exacally! I’m not a racist and I hate pulling the “Black Card” but blacks really don’t support each other anymore. Black bloggers have turned our black R&B females and rappers against each other and stan wars are very normal in almost every blog now days! Where do we get this s*** from? The word CD collection don’t even exist anymore because people only wanna stan for one artist. People need to stop this b******* and stop falling for this blog owners trap, he only needs money, and them arguing and fighting isn’t helping their fav, its helping him! Yea people can argue that don’t have to come here, but truth is, I don’t come here very often , but when I do it’s a mess. I love blogs, lol! But damn, where is the professionalism!

      • @ roma July 3, 2013

        @whateva

ummm professionalism for bloggers!! lol they are bloggers not journalist. they didnt need an education to do a blog. lol but anyway at least they are posting this awful ass song! who else is checkin for ashanti??? she is done. time to hang it up.

      • Yea Whateva July 3, 2013

@ROMA, u sound dumb as hell, rotfl! Check your food stamp balance before you check for Ashanti or any artist for that matter. Please don’t come at me. lol! IJS!

    • @ roma July 3, 2013

how do i sound dumb?? name one thing i said that was dumb….ill wait.

      • JER July 3, 2013

lol gorls!!!!!!!!!!! Please don’t argue on an Ashanti post… you might accidentally make her relevant again.

  9. FAF July 3, 2013

I wish she wasn’t whispering so much

  10. Navy Sailor July 3, 2013

    Underwhelming.

  11. TheOne July 3, 2013

  13. B****** ARE A MESS July 3, 2013

Sam shut your punk ass up! This isn’t that bad, in fact it has some potential oh but if it isn’t your little bey bey i guess it isn’t good…Tell me sam are you looking forward to the next snippet??

    • Yea Whateva July 3, 2013

      I like yo pic, haha!

  14. @ roma July 3, 2013

the problem with u ashanti fans is that u dont wanna accept the truth! ashanti is done and nobody is checkin for her. TRUTH!! her album has been pushed back 80 times. all of her singles are flopping on itunes. her last album hasnt even sold 300k. GIVE IT UP!! SHE IS DONE! #THETRUTH

  15. Jessie July 3, 2013

Its not good. Nothing to do with Beyonce or Rihanna for the people dragging them into it. The song is wack point blank period.

  16. rih rox July 3, 2013

    EVERYBODY but SNIPPETSyonce.

  17. MUSICHEAD July 3, 2013

Her music has always been basic. The only difference now is she doesn’t have a hype machine behind her anymore to force her down our throats.

  18. DOSSOME July 3, 2013

Even if it was GREAT,It would still not do well (see Brandy)…We live in an age of SMOKE & MIRRORS,Media Propaganda,Perceptions,Media onslaught, heck anything to keep your name in circulation whether you are making music or not. What has Ashanti done to warrant press coverage???When you watch Michael Jackson’s Concert DVDs of fans weeping uncontrollably & others randomly fainting just at the sight of him, what comes to mind???Exactly, that’s the power of perception…Anyway, some careers last longer than others.

  19. truth(the new and refined TRUTH. f*** icki she done now i just slay a b****…yew mad??) July 3, 2013

    gawrl just give it up..

  20. Brazilian Beyonce!!! July 3, 2013

Its lukewarm but goodluck Ashanti 🙂 <3<3<3

Ashanti should have taken one of those 360 deals she was allegedly offered. Her album is becoming as mythic as Dr. Dre’s Detox. It’s beyond obvious now that she doesn’t have the resources to handle releasing a full album independently, at least not the way she wants it to be presented. It’s like she can only barely handle putting out one single and video at a time, and even then she can’t afford promotion. I hate to say it, but she needs Roc Nation and Mike Will. Everything Kelly Rowland and Ciara are doing now, she needs to hone in on.

And before anyone starts, I’m not hating. Even though I was never a big Ashanti fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing her have a surprise come-back that’s well received, but she needs to get over her ego of “I’m Ashanti, the biggest R&B/pop chick of 2002” and be willing to roll with the punches of the current music industry until she scores another hit, THEN if she ever regains commercial success, she can start making diva demands again.

    JMO.

“I hate to say it, but she needs Roc Nation and Mike Will.”

No she doesn’t. Look at what Roc Nation did for Brandy: nothing. They like go-with-the-flow-and-do-what-you’re-told type artists….Ashanti is much too opinionated, spoiled and domineering for Jay-Z and company. Even after her decade of misses, she would expect to be given queen treatment and wouldn’t be able to handle taking a backseat to Rihanna, Shakira, Kylie, Rita, and J. Cole.

The problem with Ashanti is that Irv pampered her rotten in the beginning and so she expects that kind of treatment still. She would take a 360 deal immediately if she thought the label would make her priority #1 and was willing to give her guarantees, but after a 10 year dry spell (and really only one big album to her credit), no label is going to do that. They’ll make her sit and wait until her number is called, and then when/if they finally do release something on her, they will just throw it in the water to see if it sinks or swims.

To be fair we don’t really know that the reason she can barely get through one song or video and promote is because of funding………she just wrapped filming a movie in NY last week and prior to that she was a season regular(7 weeks of stationed filming) on Army Wives s it’s not like she was sitting around on tons of time to promote.

And in regards to her needing to learn how to deal with the industry punches…..homeboy, she has been doing that since 2008

  22. christinastherealtalent July 3, 2013

Dearest Ashanti what the hell is this trainwreck?

  23. Chaselen Daze July 3, 2013

I like the song…its a different flow for her, however who ever mastered this exclusive needs to go back to the studio and try again i could barely hear her and the track it sounded like i was listenin off of like a speakerphone or something the song got lost out in space somewhere…i wanna see the mastered track posted and I think your opinions will change…There was something there that got lost I just cant quite put my finger on it…

  24. Dev July 3, 2013

This song may not be that hot but that’s not the problem, the issues is that she doesn’t have the push or backing from both a major label or blogs. I guarantee that this will be the only Ashanti post we will see until the next single or album drops, but Beyoncé farts and it posted as a feature length story. I have all of Beyoncé’s albums till I Am (I couldn’t do 4 as it was too shouty)but only listen to two songs from her debut because the rest were purchased due to hype. Hype will get ya every time.

  25. shig July 3, 2013

    Utter flop!
Ashanti’s music all sounds the same.
Its been like 5 yrs since her last album and she stays putting out these crap songs. It wouldn’t matter if she had a major label pushing her or not, she would still flop.
Most of the people who could tolerate her so called music moved on by the time album number 2 dropped. The remaining few…Ashanti’s time is up simple as that. But I do appreciate her trying and not buying her airplay like these stars do today.
All this improvement of vocals by people who watch vocal videos on YouTube and now they think they know what vocals are just needs to stop! She still can’t sing!

  26. Unknown July 3, 2013

The song is not that bad. But i couldn’t get to hear it on youtube.

  27. cynda le fox July 3, 2013

she shouldve taken one of those seven deals she was allegedly offered cuz she clearly doesnt know how to handle her business. how many songs have to flop for her to realize that. damn!! anyone who thinks her album is coming out this year is a fool..

  28. L21480 July 3, 2013

She keeps on trying for another “Foolish”, but it ain’t happening.

  29. Jay Jay July 3, 2013

I honestly love Ashanti but she won’t succeed as an independent

    1. She needs to get a label and make sure the label is fully invested in her

    2. Ashanti needs to rebrand her image and sell on something that will make her memorable. (Beyonce is known to be a great singer, entertainer etc…Ciara is known for her dancing and performing, Rihanna is known for hit songs and her style) etc.

    3. Work with the top urban producers, Mike Will is one of the top producers in the game right now, almost every track he produces does well overall

  30. Wes July 3, 2013

I love Ashanti so much this song is kinda hot I wanna hear the whole song!!
