As ‘Columbia‘ records no doubt pumps earnings made from her ’21’ into releases launched by their smaller acts, the label braces itself for an onslaught of Adele-flavoured “slayage” this year, now that the star has completed work on her third studio album.
How her ‘Sony‘ sister Beyonce may have inspired its roll out?
A James Ingham exclusive below…
On the release, British showbiz writer Ingham reveals:
I can exclusively reveal that the follow-up to second album 21 is already complete and will be released unexpectedly without prior warning – just like Beyonce’s last record.
I’m also told the album is likely to be called 25, keeping in sync with her previous albums 19 and 21 both named after her age while recording them. My source says: “The album is written, recorded and finished.
“Theoretically it could be released tomorrow if she wanted.
“The plan is to release internationally on iTunes as a complete surprise without any previous promotion or build-up publicity campaign.
“The shock tactics worked amazingly well for Beyoncé and the feeling is Adele’s new album is so widely anticipated it doesn’t need a long promotional build-up.”
No release date has yet been decided but when it is only Adele an a handful of trusted people will be privy to it.
Though if I was placing a bet I’d go for October or November. Adele is then likely to play a few select concert dates to promote the album with a potential tour pencilled in for 2015.

I think that by releasing the album by surprise will let the work speak for itself and possibly reduce the comparisons of 21success (not that she may be worried at all). However this is my fear though; that some people will compare it 21 and not see it as a new project. Oddly enough it always seems to happen when a singer has critical acclaim for example Michael Jackson’s Thriller or Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard. To me it appeared that, that’s all the world knew them for and it felt like people kept them in that moment and wanted them to keep repeating that formula and not let them grow as an artist. I hope this doesn’t happen to Adele but this is just me. Anyway Adele I’m ready for ya! <3
Definitely agree. That’s where I worry for her because as much as she’s highly anticipated, there’s also a lot of pressure. It’ll be pretty unfair for people to not take 25 for what it is and constantly judge it against 21 when 3 years have passed and things are different in her life now. If those comparisons are made and to them it doesn’t stack up, word of mouth and internet commentary may deter people from buying the album. I’m sure she’ll do well though.

You can’t compare Adele and MJ, When MJ released Thriller he’d already been successful for almost 15 years and had already established himself long time ago, while 21 was Adele’s 2nd album and she’s only been around for less than 5 years.
It’s incorrect to say that the world only knows MJ for Thriller when he has 5 albums that are among the best selling of all time and has had plenty of mega hits before and after Thriller, under the course of 30 years.
This new Adele album will decide whether she is going to establish herself as an artist or fall off like so many others with one big selling albums have.
I wasn’t comparing anyone to anybody. Yes I understand that Michael had been actively involved in the music industry for quite some time prior to Thriller. Why he and the Jackson’s were frequent guest on The Sonny and Cher show. More so you don’t have to be in the industry for an extensive period of time to branded with a “signature” and or in some cases be known as a One Hit Wonder. But it was Thriller that made him a household name, and with its sale holding the record for most sold albums (51-65 million world wide) none of his others albums could surpass it. Thus his other albums suffered the constant comparisons to Thriller. Bad sold between 18.4-30 million which cemented him as an 80’s legend, and after which his album sales go down from there. Primarily after Thriller and Bad everything else he did fell flat, and all the negative press didn’t help. When he tried to branch out and try new things most of the world wasn’t buying it. How many people can name what album came after Bad let alone what singles?
Same thing with Whitney, The Bodyguard became her “signature” and a good majority of the world compared her future work to either I Will Always Love You or I Have Nothing and or that soundtrack. Even constants on musical reality shows only sing one of those two songs.
Hell even JK Rowling might not be known for anything else other than Harry Potter.
When you hit a certain level of success the majority of the world keeps you there making it damn impossible to overcome. So again I say I fear what what success Adele will have so early in her career. I hope she not only know for Rolling In The Deep or Someone Like You. I’ve been there with her since her underground days before 19 and she’s amazing and I want so much for her.

I’m curious to see what Adele will bring to the table. I actually prefer ’19’ to ’25’, but both albums are a great representation of where she was at in her life. I don’t know why people feel it necessary to use Adele to dismiss what Bey and Rihanna achieved. Soon both ladies (Bey & Rih) will have enjoyed a 10+ year career. All 3 of them are walking in different lanes, but Adele still has a few things to prove. Alanis Morissette, Norah Jones, even Lauryn Hill (who was the most qualified) all made a big splash with classic albums and had follow-up’s that never sold near half as much as those major albums. I’m not hating or wishing that Adele fall off or anything, but people should realize that anything can happen in these artists’ career. Not everyone that show great promise will have the Whitney/Janet/Madonna/Mariah/Celine CAREER!
Hopefully Adele can pull a shaina twain “Up!” with this album.

Ch, Adele is coming to slay! Hide your faves wigs because they ain’t ready for those first week numbers. Imagine if she breaks Britney’s first-weeks sales record? Anyway, all jokes aside I’m curious to see how this album will fare. I do think there is a lotta hype but also a great deal is pressure for her to match 21’s enormous sales. The same could be said about MJ with Thriller, Whitney with The Bodyguard Soundtrack and if you want someone younger, Usher faced a similar challenge after Confessions. Also, concerning her musical direction, 21 explored heartbreak and just about anyone who has been through a break up could relate. Adele is now in a relationship, has a beautiful boy child and seems happy so her new music could pretty much reflect that. Could it be that her audience may not want songs of that manner from her? That’s where the Beyonce-style release will benefit her because there will be no lead single to judge the album on and people will buy it based on hype and the body of work will speak for itself. I personally dislike it when music fans go on and on about artists not sticking to a formula that brought in success and acclaim because they have to grow and said formula may not represent where they are at a later stage in life. I’m not gonna make any predictions but I wish her all the best anyway. She’s such an amazing, humble and talented lady who deserves all her success.
Brit’s had that record forever! It would be interesting to see if Adele can take it (Taylor did come close). I certainly have to agree with that last part, Adele is so humble. That’s why I will always have nothing personal against her. It’s nice to see someone reach the kind of success she has with 21 and remain level headed. Most of the legends are (which I think set the perfect example).

Adele’s success was staggering! Had it not being for 21, Confessions would’ve been the last blockbuster selling album we may have ever seen. I was a bit late on the Adele train but when I did check her out, I loved her work and I’m definitely looking forward to this new project with an open mind.

Great post.It will be interesting to see the direction she takes with this album.I think the difference between MJ and Whitney is Michael’s BAD album was clearly aiming for Thriller numbers (it was more pop,had more hits,more promo etc) whereas Whitney took the less commercial route from that point and started making mostly Urban Adult Contemporary music which isn’t popular in continents like Europe and Asia.I would definitely prefer the Whitney route in that after achieving the kind of success she did with IWALY and THE BODYGUARD,she pretty much earned the right to make the kind of music she wanted without having to worry about commercial success.Only difference here is Adele’s only on her 3rd album while Whitney was approaching ICON/LEGEND status.I’m not worried about the music though,i’m just curious.

I think this album’s performance will determine her status as a Pop force for all times. The likes of Norah Jones and Lauryn Hill delivered classic albums but follow ups fell short of expectations. For me, I’ve noticed that most Pop stars solidify their status by their third album because most flash in the pan acts usually last for one or two eras. But like I said, she will do big numbers initially based on hype alone. The longevity of the album is the crux of the issue.

Adele is definitely gonna sell another 10,000,000+ Albums worldwide because of hype alone. She has a smoky, haunting classic voice that people love. Her next album better be high intense! This is the album that I will choose whether Adele is the woman to rightfully take that spot of Mariah for me. A vocal cord nodule reduces or obstructs the ability of the vocal folds to create the rapid changes in air pressure which generate human speech. Symptoms include hoarseness of speech, painful speech production, frequent vocal breaks, and reduced vocal range. Vocal fold nodules develop mostly in adult females, and children of both sexes.
I’ve heard Mariah was born with then and they worsen during daydream era due to extensive touring without proper rest. They also get worser with age which Is why Mariah sounds like she whispering when she talks and also sounded tired talking, but she refused to get them removed because they were the cause for her whistle and lower octaves.
As far as Beyonce goes she’s does a combo of live singing/lipping/singing over pre recorded vocals to preserve her voice.

Not all singer’s are effected by this. Only, singers with FRAGILE & bad techniques of singing are. Also, Adele smoked cigs for awhile. Whitney Houston developed them during her BODYGAURD WORLD TOUR from improper singing. She would push her larynx to hit notes OUT OF HER NATURAL RANGE (one of the reasons MARIAH lost her voice) & developed nodules along with the smoking. Beyonce has a great signing technique & her voice is NOT fragile. This is why Bey & many other singers can power through for YEARS of singing. Tina Turner is another one that was able to sing well into her 50’s. Patti & Aretha are ones too. Chaka smoked crack/weed for years but did NOTHING to her voice. I guess its just how YOUR voice works. Adele, on the other hand has a fragile voice like Mariah did during her early years. Her doctors told her in 2012 that if she went on tour or did ANYMORE singing her voice would become PERMANENTLY DAMAGED & SHE WOULD LOSE HER ENTIRE VOICE. This is what happened to many Opera Singer’s & Broadway Singer’s. The vocals are like instruments that you have to take care of or they will leave you. Beyonce must knows her voice very well & knows what NOT to do & what to do. One of the ways Beyonce has preserved her voice is from TALK-SINGING! If, you really look at a Beyonce concert she rarely uses Melesma’s & High Chest Notes like Mariah/Nippy did 90% of the time. Beyonce sings at a pretty LOW monotone voice for about 85% of her concerts. Many of the times she just TALK-Sings (like Rihanna) not really producing high stress on her voice. But, when singing songs like “Love On Top” (which she rarely sings live) THOSE type of songs WILL tare Beyonce’s voice apart if she sung like that EVERY NIGHT! Which, is a smart thing on her part to add backing-tracks to her “live” performances when its time to hit those vocal damaging notes. Beyonce is SMART! Celine Dion does the same thing or her voice would’ve DIED YEARS age… I hoped that helped boo. I am not a fan of Adele but it’s gonna be interesting to hear her new album and see the sales. I think the album will sell somewhere around 10-12 million worldwide, if she’s lucky. She won’t repeat 21 sales, that sold 25 million worldwide.
She will slay for sure.
I’m truly excited for this album. But I agree with Toya, the surprise tactic approach is played now and look at how hard Beyoncé is flopping this era. Even her COMIBNED tour with Jay-Z isn’t selling lol. It was hype for like a few days and then no one cared anymore. Adele should just stick to the same tactics she did for her previous masterpiece.
