Why Hasn’t Janet Jackson Been Inducted Into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Find Out Here.

Proponents of Pop purveyor Janet Jackson took to the net to express their disappointment when they learned the singer wasn’t to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

For, after learning that artists could only be considered for induction 25 years after their debut, her fans had hoped her success in the early 90s would have seen her celebrated by its committee and secure an invitation.

Alas, this didn’t happen following the committee’s meeting in New York City last September, seeing its members leave Janet out in the cold and welcome eight new acts who will officially become members of the exclusive club on April 18th.

Now, days before the event takes place in Cleveland, Jann Wenner (chairman of the Rock Hall Foundation and founder, editor and publisher of Rolling Stone) has been quizzed on the matter by Billboard.

Why his answer may spell trouble for the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady GaGa in the future?

Find out below

Billboard reveals:

Currently, 41 VIPs make up the nominating committee. During meetings, each can nominate up to three acts. After much discussion, members vote by secret ballot for 10 favorites. The 15 acts with the most votes are placed on another ballot, which is sent to a larger panel of voters — at last count, there were 810, including all Hall members. (Disclosure: I’ve been a voter for several years, and have written for Rolling Stone.) The ballots are returned and counted. The seven acts with the most votes are inducted, though the board of directors has the discretion to eliminate qualifiers with the least support.

Because there’s little transparency in the process, conspiracy theories abound, especially ones that portray Wenner as a puppet master. The Hall of Fame Foundation’s two staff members work in the offices of Wenner Media, and the foundation pays rent to Wenner Media for the space it uses. “Jann has completely taken over,” says a disillusioned committee member, pointing to Wenner’s influence on board membership and foundation employees. “He doesn’t try to rig anything, but it’s the Jann Wenner show.” Though Wenner is not on the nominating committee, it is stacked with current and former Rolling Stone writers and editors, which perpetuates the magazine’s vision of rock’s Great Works. “I understand the basis of [the conspiracy theories],” says Wenner, “but I don’t care about the speculation. After doing this for 30 years, nobody’s ever found any credible charge of chicanery or undue influence.”

The committee has often been justly criticized for being homogenous — “too old, too male, too white, too rich,” says a former member. There are six women and seven people of color among the 41 members. In the last decade, “we’ve made a conscious effort to diversify it,” says Wenner. In 2006, several stalwarts were dethroned: “I was fired for being too old. That’s what I was told,” says one. (Wenner counters that anyone who was kicked off “wasn’t being useful.”) Younger members have been added, including Morello, 50, and The Roots drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, 44.

Morello’s successful advocacy for Kiss shows how influential new members have been. In his first year, Questlove pushed pop act Hall & Oates onto the ballot, after others had tried and failed; “he worked the room like Frank Underwood works Congress,” one member says. And yet, the source adds, the balance of power is still with the elders: “Like anything boomer-centric, people are going to hold on to it as if their lives depend on it. You’ll have to pry the Hall of Fame from their cold, dead fingers.”

Many committee members expressed frustration with the larger body of voters, who are more conservative and usually overlook rappers. One year, LL Cool J was the artist who garnered the most votes in the nominating committee meeting; he’s been on the ballot three times, and voters have passed over him each time. “The nominating committee is a more educated, elite and sophisticated group of people,” says Wenner. “The broader voters are more like me — I loved a certain period of music, but I’m not deeply committed to knowing everything that’s going on.”

How all of this relates to Ms. Jackson?

Billboard shares the following…

The Hall’s mission is to honor “musical excellence and influence,” says Joel Peresman, president/CEO of the Hall of Fame Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity. Notions of excellence are subjective, and the objective standard of record sales (often cited by advocates of The Monkees, Chicago and Janet Jackson, among others) doesn’t sway the Hall — popularity “can be a marker of artistic excellence,” says Wenner, but it’s not a primary consideration. Historically, the Hall (just like Rolling Stone) has favored earnest, guitar-based rock acts over top 40 stars. Committee members “see themselves as keepers of the flame of integrity,” says an insider.

So a bunch of old mostly white people sit down and decide what’s “musical excellence” and what’s not, as if their opinion is made fact because they are in a comittee. Please! So what they don’t like doesn’t qualify as legendary? Gtfoh!!

Why has MADONNA been inducted but JANET and hall and Oates have not??? Old racist white gays controlling the music industry

    • Liam April 15, 2015

    • Lana Del Fan *I Can Hear The Sirens* April 15, 2015

Janet slated but where gonna call a spade a spade her. She wouldn’t even get a second look if she wasn’t Michael jacksons sister. Mediocre vocals but a great dancer, she would’ve been a fly girl on In Living Color.

      • Terri April 15, 2015

Hunnie; rhythm nation and velvet rope ARE WORKS OF ART; she rivals Madonna with being the GREATEST FEMALE PERFORMER of all time; JANET is an RNB legend

      • Derrick83 April 15, 2015

I guess that’s why all MJ’s other siblings were just as successful as Janet. They all released multiple albums.

      • JJS April 15, 2015

Contreol and Bad sold almost the same amount in the USA. From 1989, all janet albums outsold all MJ albums in the US. Rhythm Nation 10 million, Dangerous 6,5 million. janet. 8 million, Design of a Decade 4 million, The Velvet rope 3,6 million, and MJ’s HIStory 3 million. In 2001 All For You 3,2 million, MJ’s Invincible 1,8 million. She even had more number one albums in the USA, bigger hits etc.

      • Rory April 15, 2015

That’s not true because her first 1 or 2 albums flopped HARD!!! She didn’t hit it big until Control…… She EARNED her way on top of the charts

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

Answer to JJS: Both MJ and Janet have 6 #1 albums. MJ has 13 number 1 hits and Janet has 10. Michael’s hits have sold more and are bigger than Janet’s, don’t be delusional. Janet doesn’t even have a platinum hit in the digital era while Michael has plenty. Also your album sales figures are wrong. Dangerous sold 7 million in US, History 3,5 and Invincible 2,8. Rhyhtm Nation only sold 8,5 mill in US, not 10. And let’s not forget that outside of the US, Michael slayed Janet every decade with every album, Rhythm Nation sold 13 million ww while Bad sold 30 mill ww. Janet. 14 mill ww, Dangerous 29 million. Velvet Rope 9 mill, History 18 million. All For You 7 million, Invincible 10 million. Sooo, Janet had a slight advantage of MJ in ONLY the US for a couple of years in the 90’s, that is all.

      • JJS April 16, 2015

Sandra, both janet. and Rhythm Nation, actually, sold 20 million globally. Michael jackson had 5 No 1 albums, janet haS 6 No 1 albums, and she will have few more. HIStory sodl 3 million according to SoundScan but is 7x Platinum because of 3,5 million shipments and it’s double album so RIAA count it as two. Janet’s single Together Again sold globally speaking more than any single of Michael jackson. Also, That’s The Way Love Goes sold better than any MJ’s single in the US and spent longer atop Hot 100 than any of his singles. Certifications means nothing, cause they certify shipments, not sales. That’s why Rhythm Nation is 6x Platinum and not Diamond with 10 million copies sold. In short: MJ was biggest star in the 80s everywhere, but since 1989 in the USA Janet was bigger in every possible way: 4 sold-out tours (MJ none), 9 number one singles (MJ 2), 2 albums that sold at least 8 million (MJ none), more awards than any artist (she won more Billboard and Soul Train awards than anyone in history) and so on. Michael was bigger in Europe, in Jpaan (second biggest market) they were equal, and the US – world’s biggest market- belongs to janet. Invincible, btw, And where in the world Invincible sold 10 million? Count certifications and you’ll see it sold less than 5 million. Don’t believe in those fabricated numbers.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

Answer to JJS again: I forgot something. Bad and Control did NOT sell the same lmao!! Bad sold 10,5 million in USA but is only certified 9x platinum still. Sold 30 million worldwide. 5 #1 smash hits. Control is 5x platinum, US sales 6 or 7 million. Worldwide sales for Control is 12 million. That is all, both Michael and Janet are awesome by the way!! Just not here for inaccuracies.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

Answer to JJS:: Janet has sold 36-40 million albums in USA at most. She is certified for 26 million. Michael is certfied for 76 million albums in USA. Michael is the 7th best selling artist of all time in the US. Sorry Michael has outsold Janet in every music market in the world. Dangerous Tour and HIstory Tour were bigger and more attended than any tour of Janet’s. Janet and RN1814 did not sell 20 mill, their certifications barely add up to 14 million and her catalog sales are non existent practically. Michael has sold 35 million albums (USA) in the Soundscan era (starting in 1991), Janet only 20 million.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

JJS: sorry for commenting so many times, but I forgot to add something. Michael has indeed 6 #1 albums: Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Invincible and This Is It. Janet was bigger than Michael in the USA only, in the mid/late 90’s, yes. But not anywhere else. And why are you bringig up tours when Michael didn’t even tour in the US since the Bad tour. RN1814 isn’t diamond btw.

      • JJS April 16, 2015

Sandra, if you really want to believe in that, here you go. I hate fabricated numbers, I love the truth. As I said, visit IFPI website and count by yourself all his certifications. All For You sold 3,2 million in the USA and 600,000 in Japan. Invincible sold 1,8 million in USA and almost nothing in Japan. All Janet’s albums sold better than MJ’s from 1989 in the USA, and she had much more hits than MJ during that period. That’s undenible fact.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

JJS. Invincible outsold All For You in the UK and most parts of Europe. Invincible has actually sold 2,8 million in USA. It is 2x platinum. Invincible went Platinum in Japan as well. According to SoundScan, Michael outsold Janet in the US from 1991-present. That’s a fact.

      • Suzy April 18, 2015

Why does every campaign by Janet’s fans has to turn into this d*** measuring contest against Michael? IMO Janet fans are truly delusional if they think Janet has been the bigger star since the early 90s. Go to Spotify and look at the number of spins their music is getting and then tell me how Janet is bigger. Michael’s music stood the test of time. Janet’s not so much.

      • VBlofton April 20, 2015

Well Madonna has mediocre vocals, subpar dancing skills and was only one big gimmick and yet she is there. gets face it folks, white artist can be mediocre and the world call them royalty. Black ppl MUST be excellent. And even when we are its still not usually good enough.

      • horatio September 7, 2015

You must be out of your damn mind. Janet is a damn good vocalist. She just choses when to use them to there full capacity. There is no damn way you can listen to “Again”, “Together Again” live on Rosie Odonell Show which she sang acapella and tell me she can’t sang. I get sick of people trying to discredit her and say she is famous only because of Michael. Well why in the hell the rest of them aren’t. They all tried to do they on thing and fail. You guys are full of it. Janet is a damn good vocalist. To me anybody who can sing acapella and don’t need a stitch of music to back them up is a damn good vocalist. Some of you people need to shut the hell up and sit down somewhere.

    • Lana Del Fan *I Can Hear The Sirens* April 15, 2015

Janet slayed but we’re gonna call a spade a spade here. She wouldn’t even get a second look if she wasn’t Michael jacksons sister. Mediocre vocals but a great dancer, she would’ve been a fly girl on In Living Color.

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

You’re absolutely right, Oracle! Well if only Janet could have been as successful as Rebbie and LaToya. They clearly are world renowned artist due to Michael right?

I don’t know if Janet would have been a fly girl, but she was instrumental in helping one of their careers. That much is true. 😉

      • joejoe April 15, 2015

If Jennifer Lopez’s non singing ass made it without famous siblings and Ciara then how you gonna say Janet wouldn’t of made it without Michael? Her 1st 2 albums flopped so that tells you Michael being her brother didn’t mean anything.

      • YKD April 18, 2015

Really? This is how to tell the folks who just have something against Janet out the gate. Sad thing is it is people like you who are on the “board” for the hall of fame. Okay let me school you. Paula Abdul has a record contract, Britney Spears has a record contract. Jennifer Lopez has a record contract. In everyway they are less talented than Janet most especially vocally. So that puts your theory in the garbage. She would have been successful WITHOUT being a Jackson. Furthermore, there are nine Jackson’s so why are there only two superstars? Rebbie tried, Jermaine tried, Latoya tried so desperately it hurt, even Randy attempted a solo career, guess what? The record buying public passed on those Jacksons. Every female artist that came after Janet has largely been influenced by her. I mean goddam did you watch the performance of “lf” above. So you know what keep on drinking your Haterade, Janet Jackson is a LEGEND!! Period.

    • Alisa April 15, 2015

I swear JANET is the best performer I have ever seen, the energy, the dancing, turning the stage into a circus, it’s an amazing event she is so under rated; people say Madonna is the best performer. I don’t agree

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

Janet is a good performer but she’s far from the best performer ever, lolll. Madonna tho??? Madonna can not sing or dance, the truth hurts.

  2. BeyIsKing April 15, 2015

Janet Jackson is a damn legend. F*** what they think!

I am so beyond over the whole “If they don’t sit on a stool and whine and scream through a song, it’s not music” attitude these elitist music panelists have or most rock fans in general. This just goes to show there’s yet another older-than-dirt system set in place to favor certain types of people while not even daring to take diversity into consideration.

  5. McArthur Park April 15, 2015

1.The Velvet Rope is a musical masterpiece
2.Janet Jackson is one of the greatest performers ever
3.And to quote the great John Lyndon of the S** Pistols “this museum is a p*** stain”

  6. Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

One person’s influence should never be that strong in a committee decision.

They also need more diversity of people for ethnicity and age on the panel.

I know if ‘QuestLove’ got his way he would vote Queen Janet in.

I have seen him twice at Janet’s last two tours. He is a stan, unlike the old white men on the panel who only want people who look like them inducted into.

To quote Janet “A New Agenda’s Do!”..

  7. pat April 15, 2015

Only artist to be nominated in r and b, pop, rap and ROCK. There’s no reason. Unfortunately, the super bowl gave her critics a “reason’ to discredit this black woman who was/is a legitimate contender for Queen of Pop. Her influence is one of the largest of any artist of all time.

  8. Mark111 April 15, 2015

Music is subjective, I hate when people think whatever they listen to is great and anything other than that is trash. Janet is a legend and Queen of Pop, you see her influence although out pop music. She’s your fave’s fave and still to this day can out perform most, of not all of her understudies and rivals. (And possibly her brother back then)

  9. RANCOR April 15, 2015

She’s a hasbeen who is only famous for being she’s Michael’s sister and showing her boob at the Superbowl. That’s not R&RHOF material.

    • TheElusiveLamb April 15, 2015

If that was the case, she wouldn’t have sold 140 million, be extremely influential, and one of the best pop entertainers to LIVE. If was like the rest of MJ siblings, she would be along the lines of Letoya and the others that I don’t know the name of (NO shade). Quit hating.

  10. Anne April 15, 2015

She has been blackballed ever since the Super Bowl scandal. That’s really what the deal is. But I guess they’ll have to let her in one day. Although I’ve never thought of her as the QOP (only Madonna) or heard her referenced that way before frequenting this site, she had too much success and influence in R&B and Pop to be denied forever.

  11. jtpop April 15, 2015

    MJ is in. That’s enough.

    • Lmfao_Hoe April 15, 2015

You funny, but his sister should be in it too!!. This s*** has me upset. Scream alone is iconic with her in it with the video too.

  12. Lmfao_Hoe April 15, 2015

Smfh I’m not even surprised, they did the same s*** to Sade, Whitney and Mariah and each women has a flawless musical discography that no women or performer in the industry is putting out today.

The only thing Timberfake has is Cry Me A River (all thanks to Britney n Timberland) and FSLS (All thanks to Prince & David Bowie influence including Timberland) his new album was all hype and smoking mirrors alone. That MTV MJ award was BS, his collab with MJ was disgraceful (If MJ didn’t make it with him while he was alive, he clearly wasn’t worthy) as MJ wishlist was Chris Brown, Neyo, Kanye and 50 Cent.

      • L21480 April 15, 2015

A Janet fan talking about someone else’s smoke and mirrors is hilarious, considering how her whole past career was full of it. If not for her being Michael’s sister, she would have never been famous to begin with. If not for JJ&TL, she would have never had any hits. If not for her lip synching 90% of her “live” performances, the world would have heard how much studio magic had to be used on her records. And if not for her ex-husband Rene bringing his visual creativity, nothing about anything she did would have ever looked interesting. Her whole career was smoke and mirrors and when all of those factors faded, so did she. Smoke and mirrors, indeed. And I say this as someone who at one point WAS a fan of hers.

  15. TheElusiveLamb April 15, 2015

Janet does need them or a congratulations certificate to verify her iconic status. The woman literally has NOTHING to prove.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

You’re right, it’s really not necessary. She is an Icon and Legend already, so in the grand scheme of things, it’s whatever..

Janet’s never getting in. The industry moved on from Janet and Michael’s death only made her all the more forgettable by comparison. Reconcile it and move on. Janet stans kill me with these sad little online campaigns to get higher ups to acknowledge her that always fail.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

  20. DTG April 15, 2015

No fun being the fan of a lesser hasbeen who was only famous cuz of her bros lat name is it? They tend to get overlooked for things like this. She managed to be more successful than Latoya. That’s something I guess. *shrugz*

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

Must be hard having to use struggle reads from 30 years ago.

I guess it makes sense in your pea brain that one of the most successful acts in history, was only that because of her superstar brother, and somehow is only slightly more successful than LaToya.

Do y’all even believe the b******* you write?

You probably do, which proves the lack of critical thinking you haters have. >>>>>>

      • DTG April 15, 2015

Those aren’t “reads” (LOL), it’s truth. Which is why after 30+ years people still say it. If “Jackson” weren’t her last name and MJ weren’t her brother, we wouldn’t even be having the discussion because she would have never been famous to start with. She obviously can’t stand alone. Look at the way she’s struggled over the past 10+ years. Her whole dated career came by way of association. Famous brother, famous producing team, etc. Looks like you’ve all given up on that comeback that’s obviously NOT gonna happen and have instead taken to trying to get in the RRHOF which doesn’t look like its gonna happen either. Ha!

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

It’s not the truth when you can’t back it up with FACTS.

Germaine, Rebbie, LaToya, and the rest of the family were also his relatives.

They also started with Joe Jackson as a manager, and had industry relationships with big producers, writers, etc, do to Joe and Michael.

Where was there #1 albums, singles and top tour grosses, as well as countless accolades!

You are being really reductive to say that her whole career is based on Michael, and you know it!

Explain how all this happened well over 2 decades by association, and the other family members NEVER touched Janet’s type of success, if being related to Mike was everything.

You sounds so ridiculous right now.

      • Mark111 April 15, 2015

And the fact that she became successful when she got rid of Joe and kept Mike out of her interviews. Ya know, the whole point of Control. Sure she got in for being a Jackson, but she became a superstar on her own. Plus she was known as the sain Jackson and the private one.

    • Uh… April 15, 2015

You’re such an idiot. It’s funny how Michael had multiple Solo albums before off the wall. No one ever questions where he would be w/o Quincy Jones, but love to bring up Jimmy and Terry WitH Janet. Oh, the hypocrisy

  21. Keri Qween April 15, 2015

    Well that explains why

They prefer rock artists like rolling stone and dont like to give credit to other genres

She doesn’t need it still a QUEEN

Janet never gets the recognition she deserves for her groundbreaking career , influence and untouchable discography

  22. POP April 15, 2015

I am so annoyed by this article, when you make mention of acts like Beyoncé and Rihanna its clear the reason why Janet should be inducted is completely lost on you. Janet Jackson is a visionary artists and has writing credits on almost all of her number 1’s. If indeed you can see a path to the eventual nomination of Beyoncé or Rihanna, then I honestly have to say Janet’s induction would mean nothing. Acts like Whitney Beyoncé and Rihanna how ever revered are merely the face of other peoples music, it can not even be said that their work is collaborative. They have not shaped the game in any way. the stuffy old men described that get in the way of artists induction are inconsequential if indeed you think Beyoncé and Rihanna could ever be unjustly kept out of the rock and roll hall of fame. Hey whatever with Janet why not start a movement to get Beiber inducted, since we’re slumming and all.

    • Jess April 15, 2015

Maybe his point was that if Janet can’t get in the girls beneath Her won’t either.

      • Pop April 15, 2015

Wow, you don’t say. His point is just as I stated. It’s not a good point and it undermines the entire theory that Janet’s non induction is unjust. If her non induction is a sign that Beyoncé and Rihanna will suffer the same fate, then I would have to say so be it. All I am truly saying is this is an issue for trailblazers not Jay Z’s concubines. Suggesting they will never get in if she can’t might encourage some to keep it that way.

  23. Sarah April 15, 2015

If Madonna’s in there, Janet should be too. Period.

  24. King April 15, 2015

But Janet is not just an artist with sales and no critical acclaim to back it up. She, Michael, and Whitney helped bring Black music to the pop music’s forefront. But they’ll never understand that. Janet is unbothered, I’m sure.

  25. Dossome April 15, 2015

I will always love Janet Jackson…That’s all that matters

  26. Avenger April 15, 2015

    LOL

  27. S****** Blonde April 15, 2015

Janet is the definition of an underrated artist. That being said, The RNRHOF has favored Rock acts or artists with a Rock music related past (See, Madonna’s pre-fame Punk past), since its creation, they dislike Pop/R&B artists who experiment with Rock music later in their career, it’s seen as not authentic, that includes Janet, others like Rihanna, Beyonce and many more might as well suffer from the same in the future for the same reasons, it’s not that important though, many Rock artists has refused the “honor”, Pop/R&B musicians should stop begging to be inducted, that won’t make any artist better.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

The truth you wrote. As long as you’re clear Janet has never had to ‘beg’ for anything and she is not bringing this issue up.

The topic of diversity of nominees has been going on for decades..

  28. KatyCat April 15, 2015

It’s like Janet fans know she’ll never have another hit song so now they’re trying to save what’s left of her face by raising a stink about getting her inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame! Pitiful. lol I can think of dozens maybe hundreds who deserve to get in before her…

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

What is pitiful is you’re faves performance prowess. Let’s not dumbass.

Learn to read. This is not Janet fans it is a bigger discussions.

I guess you missed the names LL Cool J, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc in the article.

Go listen to one of your faves nursery rhymes and suck your thumb.

      • KatyCat April 16, 2015

Hilarious!  My faves “nursery rhymes” are all over the radio and she’s still able to get hits, unlike your favorite has-been whose music can’t even be found on a jukebox anymore.  When my fav played the SB, she scored the HIGHEST RATINGS ever.  When your fav played it, well the next day she was pretty much over.  Now you’re trying desperately to get that dinosaur inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame as a last ditch effort to get her some kind of relevance because you know commercial success will never happen again.

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 16, 2015

You dumb trick. It took you a full day later to reply? Had to wait for the library to open this morning. Understandable you broke b****.

        Let’s get somethings straight.

        1) Your fave and her Nick Jr. themes will not ever be considered classics or even remembered in 25years.

Janet musical legacy is set, check rolling stone magazine best albums of all time.

        2) Your fave is supposed to be getting airplay, it’s her prime, you dummy.

Janet, Mariah, Whitney, etc, of course will not get the same airplay. Most established acts don’t. Madonna doesn’t get played either, so your point moron?

        3) anyone can get a number 1 single now, even trash like your fave. It’s not thAt had @ $1.29 a pop. Compared to physical singles sold in the 80’s to early 00’s that were 5 to 10 times more expensive, than your faves bubblegum poop.

        3) the superbowl audience increases every year because of now being advertised on tv, radio, INTERNET, billboards, etc.
Do you really think that shitshow your fave called a performance was better than my Janet, Prince, Michael, Madonna, or Beyonce? If you do you are delusional!

Janets SB was before the age of the internet took off, so let’s not act like that didn’t make a difference in ratings you idiot.

By the way, Janet’s exposed breast is more intriguing, than anything your milktoast, boringass fave has every done.

        4) Janet is a legend and will always be relevant for her timeless catalog, iconic videos and performances, as well as all the records she broke, that still hold up today!

        5) if my fave never releases another album, I’m good boo! Her catalogue of flawless music, is legendary and more than enough for me to savor, forever!

        6) I could care less if Janet makes it into the hall of Bullcrap. It was a talk to have, but I am far from pressed about it.

I just won’t sit by and let someone who stans for the whitest of trash try to come for my girl!

        7) your fave need to get her p**** game together. All those guys banging her, but flopping out that gaping hole. Poor thing. No wonder no one has out a ring on it.

My fave is pretty good in her life. She has mega millions, and is happily married to a BILLIONAIRE!

Something your ugly, scream singing fave will never have!

Janet is sittin. It’s your fave that is searching for love and relevancy, she won’t achieve either tho…

        #ToodlesBitch. 🙂

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

That would just prove the complete degeneration of musical standards. Nothing more.>>>>

Why does everything always have to be the race card? Get over yourselves! Shocking to know…the world isn’t revolving around you! ACCEPT THE FACT

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

  32. robyn April 15, 2015

I’m stunned that in 2015 this sh#t is still happening WTF. None-the-less Janet slays and she is a trailblazer and has inspired a lotta artistz of 2day just like mimi, whitney, n madonna

  33. Rosie April 15, 2015

Why are you guys so mad about this? Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame is a known joke, not even the so-called “real” rock fans take them seriously.
Still it’s obviously racist and they’re even more backwards than the dude who started the anti-Kanye Glasto petition.

  34. Blacksista April 15, 2015

Who cares about the RRHOF? If people stop caring then it will go away. JANET JACKSON is too great for the hall of lame. Stop allowing these BS status to define people. You make them larger when you care.

  35. nakiyah April 15, 2015

    This is b*******!!!!!!

  36. RoyalKev April 15, 2015

It’s a F***king crime for Janet not to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. What is the hold up? There should be absolutely 0 confusion about her impact!

    – The first diva to have 5 #1 albums back to back!
    – Female with the biggest debut tour of all time.
    – The only female to have 7 top 5 singles (from one album).

Janet’s ‘Rhythm Nation’ was the only album to have 3 Billboard Hot 100 #1’s in 3 separate calendar years (’89 – ’91 – ‘Miss You Much’, ‘Escapade’, Black Cat’)

    – The artist with the MOST Billboard awards (34).
    – Practically a #1 in every genre of music
    HOT 100 (10)
    R&B (15)
    POP (n/a)
    MAINSTREAM ROCK (1, ‘Black Cat’)
RAP (1, ‘What’s It Gonna Be’)
    DANCE (19)
Jan’s the first artist to achieve a number one single in the last past four decades (with ‘Make Me’, 2010).

Every single released by Janet between January 1986 – June 2001 has secured a top 10 placement on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart (with the exception of 1 song, ‘Pleasure Principle’ which landed at #14). For those counting the total is 24

    – In 1996, Jan negotiated a new recording contract at her record label (Virgin) for $80 Million – highest of any artists at that time.

    – Janet Jackson is also the first artist to have a #1 Billboard Hot 100 hit in the 80’s, 90’s and ’00’s

Jan was also the #2 Billboard Artist of the decade in the 90’s (WITH 4.5 releases including a remix and greatest hits album.)

… and this is the short list, but I’ll stop here!
Aside from all the numbers Janet provided some of the most memorable eras in Pop music history. Look at her journey, you can tell all of her work apart (from control to All For You). That’s not always the case with many artist. Jan’s props is long overdue!!!

    • DMWN April 15, 2015

Lol suffer. She’s not getting in any time soon. I love seeing her stans frustrated over what they can’t “control” oops!

      • Uh… April 15, 2015

This is stupid. Plenty of musical articles have questioned her not even being nominated. What a dumbass…

      • RoyalKev April 15, 2015

        Suffer?
My dear, this is just ANOTHER honor Janet is deserving of! None of her stans are pressed because Jan’s earned well over 250 honors. We’ll live!

  37. Qaz April 15, 2015

Boo-hop. Too bad, so sad. This is what happens when you decide to strip in front of kids at the super bowl. If she’s lucky maybe she’ll get in after she’s dead but probably not a minute before.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen (aka T.I.T.S.) April 15, 2015

Too bad a trick got between your mom’s knees for a pittance. Your worthless life was the end result..

      Anything else?? 🙂

  38. #JACKIE April 15, 2015

Who cares? She slays Rihcoconut now that b**** will never be a legend!

  39. Stephon April 15, 2015

The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke. How they gon’ induct Madonna but ignore Whitney, Mariah, Janet etc…
Also, they have a LOOOOONG list of unknown & one hit wonder inductees. Meanwhile, people like Janet with a legendary career… Get’s paid dust.

These idiots just inducted some old black dude, who was a ONE HIT WONDER. And, the song he sung (“When a man loves a woman”).. Wasn’t even written nor produced by him. What an ass backwards “HALL OF FAME”…

    • FutureCIARA April 15, 2015

  40. Greg_N_Greed April 15, 2015

N yet the Queen stay un-bothered!

  41. Sage April 15, 2015

Janet is only notable for being MJ’s sister and the Super Bowl controversy. If I sat on the committee I wouldn’t nominate or vote for her inclusion either. Sorry (not sorry.)

  42. What now April 15, 2015

Janet is am icon. I may not stan for her, but you can’t deny the woman. MJ or no MJ

  43. Stephon April 15, 2015

“Janet Jackson is only famous due to her brother/last name”

This may be true… But, everyone has their own journey to the top. Shoot, Whitney Houston MOTHER was a background singer for Aretha & Elvis Presley. And, Nippy’s cousin was a legendary singer too (Dionne Warwick). Even tho, Nippy could blow yo black ass off the stage at any given moment… Lets not act like her mothers connections… Mixed with Clive Davis (which was like her Tommy Mottola). Didn’t play a HUGE part in Whitney selling millions of records & becoming a household name.

If Janet Jackson just relied off of her last name, and had not put in that work… Her ass would’ve FLOPPED right along with that entire family. Janet is the ONLY other person in that crazy ass family to become an Icon. All 1,000+ members of the Jacksons clan NEVER achieved success on MJ’s or Janet’s level, PERIOD! It’s time to give the woman her props & call it a day. Shoot, and induct Mary J. Blige while you’re at it too. BYE

  44. FutureCIARA April 15, 2015

What Is Legend? WHAT IS ICON MOST?

    JANET FUCCING JACKSON!!!!
    Learn It!

  45. Navy Nick April 15, 2015

Pathetic !!!!!!! Janet def deserves it!!!!

  46. Shady81 April 16, 2015

I’m so sick of other artists stans or fans saying Janet wouldn’t be nothing without Michael and her last name being Jackson. Well news flash Michael would’ve been s*** either without the work, guidance, or visual technique of their father Walter Joesph Jackson Whom created The Jackson 5 along with their mother Katherine Jackson whom design there costumes and so fourth many also forgot that it was Joesph idea to have The Jackson family variety show which showcase not only the brothers talents but the sisters as well which include Janet at the age of 7 showcasing her singing, dancing, and acting talents as well which got her the attention of Good Times Creator Norman Lear then later she did another one of his shows Different Strokes then fame, she wanted to continue acting and go to college to be a horse racing jockey but no Joseph pushed her into music because he felt it made more money so she did what he asked her to do. So when people say she wouldn’t be nothing without Michael I say check your facts again because to be honest the Jackson 5,Michael, and Janet wouldn’t be nothing without Joseph Jackson.

  47. Shady81 April 16, 2015

Typo I ment Joesph Walter Jackson.

  48. you wanna be on tv I bet April 16, 2015

Some of yall needs to shut the heck up on here making no sense at all. And Jant j is a married woman I’d love to see her do a duet or fear Ciara or any other artist that would be awesome

  49. I STAN(D) IN LINE FOR HYDROQUINONE) April 16, 2015

If Janet didn’t make it then I’m scared for Ciara…. or perhaps Rihanna

  50. Sandra April 16, 2015

Stop comparing two great legends, MJ and JJ!

    • Sandra April 16, 2015

I forgot to add; Janet 36 million albums sold in USA. Michael 76 million albums sold in USA. But yall claim Janet was bigger??? In what world? Janet is great in her own right but she falls short when compared to her legendary brother. Janet fans should accept this instead of making up fairytales. Janet and Michael are legends! But in different leagues.

      • Uh… April 16, 2015

after death DOES matter. Especially if it’s with Justin Timberlake. Love Never Felt So Good w/o Justin barely did anything.

      • Uh… April 16, 2015

Who said she was bigger? She WAS doing better than he was at some point though as well as some other artists.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

@Uh: Some Janet fans said she was bigger… Yes I am aware Janet was bigger than MJ in USA for some time in the 90s and had more #1 hits then him that decade, but remember Janet is almost a decade younger than Michael, that plays a part of it too. Any way, both are legends and music royalty 🙂

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

@Uh ofc the remix with a current artist like Justin Timberlake would do better, but any way both versions were a success

    • Uh… April 16, 2015

Michael has a platinum hit in the digital era? You mean, after death? Ok

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

@uh: Does it matter? Janet has released more singles in the digital era and even her biggest digital hit Feedback only sold like 900k

    • Uh… April 16, 2015

      Janet is under certified

  51. Sandra April 16, 2015

Why Janet hasn’t been inducted? After the SuperBowl incident, she’s been struggling severely, zero top ten hits, zero platinum selling albums after Damita Jo. No radio support. She was very big (mostly in America) during her prime years 1986-2001 but after that she fell off. I personally believe Janet deserves to be in the RockNRoll Hall Of Fame. Because she has inspired many if the new r&b girls like Ciara and Tinashe. If Madonna is inducted then Janet should be too, despite her not having any commercial success since 2001. Maybe next year! Good luck Janet 🙂

  52. Sandra April 16, 2015

I have always wondered why Janet was never as big as her peers. Janet album sales ww stand at 70 million at most. Mariah and Whitney have sold 150 million each. Madonna sold over 190 million albums. Let’s not even bring up Michael and his massive sales and global dominance. Janet should’ve sold at least 100 m albums IMO, she was very big in US and had moderate success in other music markets. Maybe because she released less albums? Janet has 10 albums, Mariah and Madonna have 14 each. I think that’s why probably. Janet deserved more. She’s so talented! Induct Janet in RockNRoll Hall Of Fame, it’s long overdue. Sorry for the long comment.

  53. Flash80 April 16, 2015

What a bunch of whiny babies. Don’t nobody give a fukkk about this over the hell pop star from the 80’s whose claim to fame came from sponging off her more talented and acclaimed brother Mike while getting ALL her hits from Jam & Lewis. She still hasn’t managed to recover from nipplegate and that was over 10 years ago and she hasn’t had a real hit song since Bush the 2nd’s FIRST term. Janet ain’t in the RRHOF and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

    • Flash80 April 16, 2015

I meant over the hill, but over the hell works too. Her career seemed to plummet to the depths of hell and now she’s a C-lister whose career is in bad enough shape for a reality show on E!

      • Shady81 April 16, 2015

First of all flash80 she never sponged of her Brother like I said before she got into the business just like Michael and her other Brothers and sisters because of Joe Jackson there father, because he wanted something better for his children. And as for you mentioning Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis they where not popular when they where in the group The Time it was all about Morris Day hence the rechanging of the name Morris Day & The Time in the early 80’s many of The Times music was produced by Prince, so When Janet got with them basically they where unknown and she was looking for a new sound and an identity that was all her and no one else but hers. As for Michael he like Janet flopped musically a couple times before he got with Rod Temperton and Quincy Jones which gave him his unique sound add Rod’s Writing skill and unique production(hence Thriller) Which Rod wrote and produce. Without Rod and Quincy Michael wouldn’t be great either and Janet And Michael had to both Fire Joe to become great as they are so if there’s any sponging going on, well they had use there wit’s, talent successful to get there Michael went for more well known producers route to become successful on his own merit and it worked for him while Janet went more Unknown Producers route to become successful on her own merit. So there so much for a woman you call over the hill LMFAO she has more success in her little pinky finger then you have in your little miserable life so there. So keep spewing non-factual venom and I will just keep laying out facts Adios.

      • Uh… April 16, 2015

        And Janet was severely blacklisted.

      • BHT2 April 16, 2015

“blacklisted,” my ass. You Janet stans cling to painting her as some kind of victim of this or that to justify her failures when the reality is that her music turned to sh!t and the GP simply lost interest. /THEEND

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

Reply to Shady81. I wouldn’t say Michael’s first albums flopped as hard as Janet’s first 2. Michael’s first solo album Got to be there went top 5 and is almost Platinum. Michael’s second album Ben actually spawned his first solo #1 single , Ben, which won a Golden Globe. His fourth album Forever Michael spawned one of his biggest UK hits. Michael had plenty of success before Quincy came along. Quincy didn’t give him his unique sound either, Michael developed his own sound before that.

    • Uh… April 16, 2015

LOL, Janet’s only hits weren’t from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. learn something.

      • Sandra April 16, 2015

@uh: How many hits did Janet have after she stopped working with Jam and Lewis? After she left them her career declined drastically.

    • Uh… April 16, 2015

You’re dumb af. HOW did she sponge off of Michael when her first two albums flopped? You guys are so dumb. Michael sold albums, but he had little radio success which is why he got Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on his HIStory album. Those songs weren’t as good as Jam and Lewis’ material with Janet because Jan and Lewis made the perfect team whereas Michael released his BEST work with Quincy Jones! Michael introduced the world to Black American culture. Michael has gotten SO many dance moves from other people, but no one talks about it because he’s passed on… You sound like a pissed white person who can’t take that YOUR white people still exclude blacks! Janet’s New Agenda song was about this. And yes, this was before Michael’s They Dont Really Care…

      • Shady81 April 16, 2015

Thank you Uh… clearly Some of these haters obviously tear Janet down just to build Michael up to me it doesn’t matter how many albums before or in between had flopped if The Jackson 5, and Michael are in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame then so should Janet and maybe just maybe if she hopefully get in by next year then that would make her parents Joe and Katherine proud not that there not proud of there daughter but that would solidify the Jackson Dynasty of being in the hall of fame.

  54. RanMan April 16, 2015

They say her first two albums flopped but 250K for an Disco/R&B artist in early 80’s was good. Aretha and Diana were getting 500K. They can’t deny that Control and RN1989 pretty much laid the foundation for 80’s and 90’s R&B to be big as it was. Whitney, and Micheal the only other blacks outselling were going Pop. We wouldn’t have good Quiet Storm, New Jack Swing, and R&B/Pop without her. That alone should get her in and she still has her videography, dance music, and stage shows as influence.

    • CzarM April 16, 2015

To say that we wouldn’t have NJS, Quiet Storm or R&B/Pop without Janet Jackson is a crock of sh*t. Teddy Riley is the creator of New Jack Swing…and artists like Guy, Keith Sweat, Heavy D. did way more for the introduction of it and bringing it to its eventual prominence than Janet ever did. Artists like James Ingram, Debarge, Luther Vandross, Peabo Bryson and Stevie Wonder ushered in Quiet Storm while Janet was still flopping with Dream Street and taking up space on Fame…and to credit her with the emergence of Pop/R&B is the biggest load of a post that was already full of lies. Are you serious? R&B and Pop have been merging since before Janet was born. Hello. Doo-Wop/Pop in the 50s. Hello. Motown in the 60s. Hello. Disco in the 70s. Hello Funk/Pop in the early 80s.

      GTFOH with that b*******.

Janet fans are notorious for trying to credit her as the purveyor behind something that she was simply around for. Everything Janet accomplished, sonically, others were doing at the exact same time and having similar success. Whitney Houston, Sheena Easton, Paula Abdul, Pebbles, Karyn White, The Jets, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Jody Watley, New Edition, Cameo, Ready For The World, etc., etc. were all pushing R&B/Pop/New Jack Swing/Funk-Pop/Quiet Storm during her peak. Stop acting like she laid the foundation for something that she was merely there for. That’s like saying Justin Bieber created T*** Pop. Janet gave birth to nothing, except for maybe some missing kid by James Debarge that she kept stashed away for the last 40 years.

And, while I’m here, while Michael and the Jackson name may not have solidified her success, lets not pretend that having that association didn’t give her a substantial boost that others could only dream of. Janet never had to play the starving artist, shopping around demos, face rejection letters or hope to get discovered while playing hole in the wall clubs that she drove to in cars that would break down along the way. She started her career pampered with options and choices that most up and comers have to work years to get.

CzarM let me get your raggedy ass together right quick first all Teddy Reily didn’t create New Jack Swing it was Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis along with Janet in creating a new sound for her which came the Control Album with the heavy use of Synthesizer Keyboard without all the extra use of instruments which they called it the Minneapolis Sound in 1985 you can hear the same sound on Morris Days The Color of Success song and as for you saying Janet hasn’t done s*** groundbreaking in her career well she also was the first to infuse Hip-Hop& R&B together thanks to the remix of Alright when she worked with an unknown rapper by the name of Heavy D so Janet Along With Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis did many first they created the New Jack Swing sound Jimmy and Terry just didn’t put a title name to it back in 1985 when they started working with Janet, Janet was also the first to give the Vogue dance a platform back in her video Pleasure Principal back in 1986 she just didn’t give it a title name like Madonna did Janet also reintroduced props in Choreography form the last time props were used was back in the 30’s,40’s and 50’s by such great as Cyd Christie,Gene Kelly,Bo Jangles, the Nicholas Bothers etc. So for you to say Janet didn’t do anything groundbreaking and that she rode everyone elses coattails I say complete bull, because if Janet didn’t work with Heavy D to create the remix to Alright then there wouldn’t be an infusion of Hip-Hop and R&B then you wouldn’t have the likes of Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey TLC, Michael Jackson,Beyonce and so on doing it Janet was the first, the sound that you claimed Teddy Reily made which he gave the name New Jack Swing really is the Minneapolis Sound and that was Created by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Janet did many first but not giving there created but her real fans and stans no the truth of the many first she has created along with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. While you put Teddy Riely on a peddle stool yes indeed he is a great Producer but while Jimmy and Terry sit with yhe greats continuing to work with new and old talents Teddy is somewhere in the middle scraping old Michael Jackson material Michael Threw away to create a lackluster album with Justin Timberlake, and L.A. Reid to put out to his fans making a mockery of his legacy after his death just so they can make a quick cheap and easy buck knowing those songs Michael threw away was beneath Michaels standards so miss me with your theory of what you think Janet’s legacy is.

I don care what you say or compare that’s why our artist are living in other countries, American continues to control everything by race I don’t think Janet, Tina Turner Chucka, or anyother of our artist give a damn about how anyone in america feels about them they already know.
