Amerie Performs ‘Heard Em All’ On Kimmel

Despite the dismal sales forecast for Amerie’s latest effort ‘In Love & War’, the singer continues to press on with her promotional attempts, most recent a trip to the Jimmy Kimmel Live show to perform new single ‘Heard Em All’.

Ms. Rogers delivered a pretty decent performance, yet you’d know never know judging by how dead the crowd were (can they be blamed, though? Probably their first time hearing the song!). I worry a little for what the future holds for this immense talent; when will she finally get her deserved kudos?

Amerie’s ‘In Love And War’ Set To Bomb

amerie 2 Ameries In Love And War Set To Bomb

With just a few hours left before the final sales figures are available, HitsDailyDouble is reporting that Amerie’s ‘Love And War’ has thus far sold a dismal 7, 7o3 units based on 54% of the tallied retailers. The record is on track to debut at #7 on the Billboard 200, clocking a projected total of 15-17, 000 units. Thus far, none of Amerie’s 3 singles have managed to appear on the Billboard Hot 100, with ‘Why R U’ peaking the highest on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts at #55.

I highly doubt that this comes as a shock to anyone. With horribly handled promotion, a blatant lack of media presence and zero radio support, there was no way that this was going to be a top-seller. Amerie is definitely talented but talent alone does not equate to a successful album. Many people would suggest that the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of her label, Island Def Jam, which we all know support some of their other far less gifted artists (who shall remain unnamed…) a lot more than those with actual talent. I would have to agree with some of that criticism as well. However, the material on this record did not scream “mega-hit” either so the real fault truly resides with all of the parties involved, including Amerie herself.

Amerie Performs ‘Why R U’ On 106 & Park

Amerie continues on her promo grind for her 4th studio album ‘In Love & War’, this week stopping by BET’s 106 & Park to perform previous single ‘Why R U’. Still not sold on the song, but a great performance nonetheless. I see she’s making the weave-shaking/dutty-whine hybrid a trademark move. I like!

Amerie Performs ‘Heard Em All’ On Wendy Williams

R&B singer Amerie finally made her first televised performance of new single  ‘Heard Em All’ on The Wendy Williams Show earlier today. Hell, correct me if wrong, it’s her first televised anything for her ‘In Love & War’ LP. SMH…

While the performance wasn’t bad at all, it kinda reminded me what my main gripe was with the video. With the song being such a banger, I was expecting some insane choreography, yet instead got a visually appealing clip, yet nothing in the way of ‘fierce’ moves. Still, pretty decent, I guess. Best of luck to Amerie with the album.

Tidbit: There has apparently been some shipping issues with her LP, so if you’ve yet to see it in stores, hit up Itunes or Amazon to purchase.

Amerie’s ‘In Love & War’: Will You be Buying?

Amerie In Love and War

Today marks the US release of Amerie’s 4th studio album ‘In Love & War’.

With it being 3 years since the release of her criminally underrated ‘Because I Love It’ LP, the 29 year old will no doubt be hoping this new body of work will give her the recognition she deserves.

That said, though we are loving the album here at That Grape Juice, her label Def Jam don’t seem to be! One needn’t look further than the  next-to-no promotion for the record, as well as the fact she has yet to perform on any televised show. It’s such a shame, as in an industry in much need of legitimate talent, it can be staring someone like Amerie right in the face, yet shun it in favour of lesser talented acts. I can only hope she gets the recognition she deserves in due course.

We here at That Grape Juice want to know if you’ll be buying ‘In Love & War’? Have you got/heard it already? Hit or Miss?

New Song: Amerie – ‘Swag Back’

a3 New Song: Amerie Swag Back

Another song from Amerie’s latest LP, ‘In Love & War’, has surfaced today. That track, which has been getting a lot of buzz from her fans, is titled ‘Swag Back’ and was produced by Jim Jonsin, the production mastermind behind  TI’s ‘Whatever You Like.’ The songstress’ album officially hits stores on November 3rd.

I liked this song. It’s definitely radio-friendly and has the kind of beat that’s made for car speakers. The melody works well with her crisp vocals and she does not get lost in the productions – a problem that affects many of today’s artists who sacrifice their voices in favour of club-ready singles (I’m not calling any names, just initials: KH).

My only problem with the song is that the melody sounds almost exactly like TI’s ‘Whatever You Like.’ Usually I am not a fan of recycled tracks but I think she managed to pull it off really well. Good stuff.

Hit or Miss?

Preview: Amerie’s ‘In Love & War’ LP

Amazon UK are giving folks the chance preview Amerie’s ‘In Love & War’ in its entirety. I’m really liking the sound of it, which makes the fact none of the singles are popping off (and the terrible promotion) that much harder to swallow. In any case…

Amerie ‘YRB’ Shoot (A Must-See!)

amerie 4

Check out a stunning looking Amerie in the latest issue of YRB magazine (no, I’ve not heard of it either lol). But really though, what are the first words that comes to mind when looking at this shoot? Because for your boy Sam it really is ‘Amerie, you better work!!!’. Kinda has me wondering why these pics weren’t used for a more substancial publication or promotional purposes. In any case…flawless.

Amerie ‘In Love & War’ Album Sampler

Amerie 'In Love & War' Album Sampler

Def Jam are giving Amerie fans a preview of what to expect from the 29 year old’s forthcoming LP ‘In Love & War’ on their website. Titled ‘Prelude to In Love & War’, the taster tracklist includes:

TRACK LISTING

1. Higher (Snippet)

2. Heard ‘Em All (Full)

3. Tell Me You Love Me (Snippet)

4. Why R U (Full)

5. Pretty Brown (Snippet)

6. Red Eye (Snippet)

I must say I’m definitely looking forward to this record much more after hearing this. The atrocious first single ‘Why R U’ really doesn’t seem that representative of the album as a body of work, based on this teaser. While featuring uptempos, mid-tempos and slow jams, the LP’s sound still feels consistent and that preview flowed seamlessly. Definitely feeling ‘Higher’ and ‘Pretty Brown (ft. Trey Songz)’.
‘In Love & War’ drops in November.

Madonna – ‘Celebration’ Video

As Madonna gears up for the release of her latest greatest hits collection ‘Celebration’, the video for the title track of the set premiered today.
After watching this, the words embarrassing, atrocious and hot mess immediately come to mind. Having never really been one to holler about ol’ Madge being past it, this video is proof if ever it was needed. The cringe worthy choreography and insistence on trying to sell her sex appeal, which long expired, made this whole affair seem desperate and actually quite sad. Blunt as it sounds too, the song is trash.
Tidbit: Did anyone else notice Madge’s daughter Lourdes getting her dance on at the end?
