Michael Jackson – ‘This Is It’ Movie Details

Michael Jackson - 'This Is It' Movie Details

The official promotional poster for Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ movie surfaced today, as has new information about the much anticipated docu-film. Speaking on the project, the reliable source, who is close to the project, said:
1) Trailers are mostly done, and we’re waiting partly on the footage from the funeral which is being added in now. Expect to see the first ad premiere next weekend. I tried to press him on more info regarding the VMA’s but couldn’t get a confirmation.
2) The movie is not a 2 hour concert like many fans thought. In fact the movie is simply a documentary based around the This Is It tour, it shows Jackson in his final days and includes his death, aftermath, and reaction. Clips from the memorial and funeral will be used.
3) There will be some footage of MJ performing, much longer then the 3-4 minute snippet released at the end of June by AEG. You will see MJ in his dressing room, mingling and directing, plus one scene where he talks to the camera. Basically, it will show Jackson in his final months alive.
4) The movie is between 100 and 130 minutes in length.
5) The plan for the DVD is to have it out in late November by Thanksgiving or early December at the latest, although my source revealed this maybe a long shot if they extend the 2 week showing to 3 or 4 weeks (which is possible).
6) The DVD will contain the theatrical version in its whole plus over 2 hours of Jackson performing, warming up his vocals, singing, and in full costume. The most spectacular footage is by far from the Staples Center in LA which I’m told will “blow fans away”. This extra footage will be a special feature on the DVD along with many other treats that fans will love.
7) Finally, the CD soundtrack I’m told will be released after the movie, most likely sometime in November to coincide with the DVD launch and WILL include a new song Jackson recorded in his last 2 years alive. Apparently the song is “off the hook” and is currently being worked on by producers who are putting the finishing touches on it and is being considered to be issued as a single all around the world.
While this all sounds awesome, I can’t help but feel a little torn about the monetising of the project. The business-savvy side of me understands that it is in the best interest of Michael’s estate, and pardon my bluntness, to ‘milk’ the movie for as much as it possibly can. However, the fan and generally more objective side of me wonders why the DVD – at this point – is looking more enticing than the actual movie-going experience. It’s as if the ‘really’ good stuff is looking to be on the DVD. That said, this hasn’t deterred me from going to see it come October 28th; just an observation…

Have Janet and Def Jam Reconciled?

Have Janet and Def Jam Reconciled? There is mounting speculation that Janet Jackson and label Island Def Jam have put aside their much publicized differences and have opted to continue working together. The news comes as Jackson’s previously scrapped new single ‘Can’t Be Good’ was officially sent to Urban Adult Contemporary radio for adds by Def Jam this week. {Source}
A reconciliation? Hopefully. A final parting shot? Maybe. I’m still not entirely sold on ‘Can’t Be Good’ getting the single treatment ahead of cuts from ‘Discipline’ such as ‘2Nite’, ‘The 1′ and a more proper release of ‘LUV’. If there’s no promotion, I really can’t see this making much of an impact. Still, I’m hoping Janet and Def Jam have patched things up, the ‘Discipline’ project really is too good to go so un-supported IMO.

Beyonce To Sing Bond Theme

Beyonce To Sing Bond Theme According to reports, Beyonce is being lined up to sing the signature number in the upcoming ‘James Bond: Quantum of Solace’ movie. Should the deal go through, the 26 year old will be collaborating with writer Amanda Ghost as well as legendary composer John Barry. Troubled singer Amy Winehouse, had at first, been the likely choice, however her many personal and legal woes made for all such plans to be abandoned a few weeks back. {Source}
This is most definitely a good look for Beyonce on her quest to cement her name with the all-time greats. By performing the film’s theme, she will be following in the shoes of music icons such as Tina Turner, Dame Shirley Bassey and Madonna.

Jennifer Lopez Performs On Good Morning America

Jennifer Lopez has gone into promotion overdrive for her new CD ‘Brave’ (which hits stores today in the US) and has seemingly been everywhere as of late. She performed a mini-set yesterday on ‘Good Morning America’ consisting of current singles ‘Do It Well’ and ‘Hold it Don’t Drop It’. Despite her not really ‘working’ the stage, I kinda enjoyed both performances. This whole being pregnant thing (which we all know she is) is doing wonders for her live vocal ability; without choreography she doesn’t sound bad live at all.

What do you think of the performance / Will you be buying ‘Brave’?

Bow Wow & Omarion Appear On TRL

14626299lovenjones813200733120PM Bow Wow & Omarion Appear On TRLBow Wow and Omarion stopped by MTV’s TRL in New York today to promote their forthcoming collabo album ‘Face Off’. Call me a hater or whatever, but I doubt the CD will be saying much. I felt their collabo on ‘Let Me Hold You’ to be pretty underwhelming. What’s more, neither have proved their worth as solo stars; with their recent albums just scrapping Gold status. I’m guessing this joint project is just a way of ensuring each of their fan-bases buy it – hence equalling larger sales overall.

Chris Brown Preps New Album

chrisbrown6 Chris Brown Preps New Album Teen R&B star, Chris Brown has shed some light on his upcoming sophomore album, ‘Exclusive’ (due September). Producers on the album are set to include Bryan-Michael Cox, Scott Storch and will.i.am. Brown, who co-wrote some of the cuts on the album, describes the CD as having a ‘more mature/edgier sound’- including songs of a sexual nature. ‘I’m not trying to go overboard and lose my (younger) fans though’ Brown told Billboard.
Considering he is almost 18, I always expected his 2nd CD to be more ‘adult’. Even though I find his voice kinda nasal, I’ve always liked that his music manages to stay age-appropriate while still appealing to the older listener. It’s good to see he’s doing the same thing this time around.

Alicia Keys Beefing With Label?

alicia keys11 Alicia Keys Beefing With Label? NY Daily News is reporting that R&B star Alicia Keys has pushed back the release of her third album from June to October. The official reason given by her spokesperson was that there were ’scheduling conflicts’ with her blossoming acting career. However, it is rumoured that the singer is unhappy with the promotions situation at her label, J Records. Ken Wilson, the promotions director Keys ‘trusted and relied on’ was fired from the Clive Davis owned label.

Whatever the case, there are definite problems over at J Records. Solid albums by previously successful artists such as Fantasia and Monica severely underperformed due to bad promotion. It was as if the label’s artists would pop-up a month before their album would drop. With no single out now, Alicia would have been in the same situation come June. The label need to sort themselves out if they want their artists to actually sell; it’s not good when the top artist isn’t happy. It kinda makes me worry for upcoming J Records releases from Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson.
