Amerie Officially Done With Columbia

Published: Monday 21st Apr 2008 by Sam
Amerie Officially Done With Columbia After months of speculation, it appears that R&B songstress Amerie has severed ties with Columbia Records, following the removal of her name from the labels roster. The singer’s third studio album ‘Because I Love It’, though critically acclaimed and a hit in Europe, did not receive a Stateside release. Instead, a succession of proposed release dates, came and went without yielding the album. Reliable sources confirm that the singer is currently locked in talks LA Reid’s Def Jam. {Source}
Here’s hoping she signs with a new label ASAP. It’s criminal that ‘Because I Love It’ wasn’t given a chance to be heard by the masses. Truly a great record.

Any thoughts?

Don’t be so surprised that her album wasn’t pushed stateside. Amerie has never proved to be a commercial commodity. She’s more of a liability. She’s a marginal talent with marginal star power. It doesn’t take a mathematician to realize that 0 + 0 does not equal anything greater than 0.

In reference to the Alicia Keys tour post. I am shocked that reputable companies have agreed to work with this blog considering it links to a large amount of illegal content!

Critically acclaimed! Amerie! Now you’re having a laugh, the only goo stuff Amerie made was on her first album… downhill after that. when peopel gonna realise that pretty don’t mean talented! Hopefully next it’ll be cassie

I don’t agree with the first comment on here. Amerie can sing her b*** off! AND KELLY, NO TALENT!!! Wow, have u heard “Love Again” the woman has set of pipes on her!!! Jus because she & Amerie aren’t promoted as much as other artist, doesn’t mean that they don’t have talent. Your comment was just nasty! WOW!

WELL to the poster above me, first rule of promotion is MAKE PEOPLE WANT YOU, Kelly and whats her face need women to WANT to be LIKE THEM and men to WANT to be WITH THEM….and guess what? nobody does

amerie is fierce! i hope she signs with def jam, they will do wonders for her just look at rihanna, mariah, janet… she’ll be in good hands.

Kelly & Amerie both have talent…I mean just because their albums didn’t do good doesn’t mean they don’t have talent. Its all about singles choices and unfortunately they just made a mistake and put out singles that weren’t radio friendly. Kelly did come out with “Like This”, but it just didn’t get any shine.

Let me laugh hard!!! Kelly & Amerie are by far part of the sweetest female singers out there! I can’t even understand how u can say/think that men wouldn’t want to be with them or that women wouldn’t want to be like them!
And they both got talent and pipes! U just couldn’t hear it because they aren’t promoted right!

As for Amerie’s switch of label, i think it’s the best that could have happened to her, i’m sure Def Jam will do her better than Columbia!

Amerie is just like MYA and CHRISTIMA MILLIAN…and KELLY ALSO

def jam can’t help everybody. If the public wanted her they would deman her they would search fer all her music online BUT THEY DONT. BEYONCE AND RHIANNA BOTH HAVE S** APPEAL, men want to break them off and women either love their clothes or shoes or something about them. Why be Kelly? or whats her face, THEY JUST DONT HAVE “””””” IT “””””””””

Well i agree people have to demand you….it’s easier for them to do so when your label shoves you down their throats, someone is pulling your strings and you have alot of YOUR OWN money to use in shoving yourself down the consumers throats.

Kelly and Amerie both have pipes…Kelly needs help in finding the right audience…Amerie needs help getting her music to the audience.

There are always delays with A’s albums…timing is off and sometimes the single choice.

I know her fans are happy about this…they have been hoping for this for awhile lol.

    Do you A!

I bought Because I love it at FYE and it was not an import. I didnt know she had an album out until i walked in there in june 2007 and saw it. she had 2 videos for the album. i guess no one in the states responded. that album was fire. amerie is the truth. dont sleep on her. all 3 albums were hot.

  15. Anonymous April 21, 2008

Because I Love It is Amerie’s best album…I found it @ FYE this summer and probably have played the coating off the CD. It’s a shame A can’t take off for real, she’s a good talent.

I THOUGHT AMERIE’S LAST ALBUM WAS ON POINT!!! SHE’S ALWAYS HAD BANGERS… ‘WHY DO WE FALL IN LOVE’, ‘TOUCH’, ‘BECAUSE I LOVE IT’ etc. Amerie is actually reall good but I think she tries to hard to do what’s current. She needs to find her own style (Performing wise) cos when she started she was sick!!! But when ‘1 Thing’ came out she started flicking her weave and all dat ‘s** appeal’ ish (not that i have a problem with s** appeal) but it wasnt for her. She needs to find her niche market and appeal to them. Her first album was the best for me in terms of longevity!
