Jennifer did a great job. One of the premier vocalist in today’s industry. Everyone did great tonight but Jennifer got me as always. She took a song and made it her own. This will always be Whitney’s trademark song of course and I didn’t at all see a reason why Jennifer would want to imitate that. She made the song her own and gave a great rendition of the song. True artist know how to turn a song a put thier own stamp to it. No one of course can come to trump Whitney’s version but Jennifer did a great tribute to her and honored her well like no other. Whitney approved of it and so do I.

JHUD WAS OK.. DID NOT MATCH OR EXCEED WHIT’S PERFORMANCES BUT BEST SO FAR WITH THE HIGH NOTES. NOT TECHNICALLY OR VOCAL STYLED AS WELL AS WHIT BUT NO ONE CAN AS SHE SET THE VOCAL STANDARD FOR THIS SONG.

KIM BURRELL. NOW THAT’S THE S***!!! TALK ABOUT THE BEST GOSPEL JAZZ ARTIST ON THE PLANET. NO WONDER WHITNEY PRAISES HER HIGHLY AND THEY ARE FRIENDS IN REAL LIFE. NOTICE THE ADLIB ABOUT CALLING WHIT, HAHA.

MJB. CANT STAND HER GHETTO ASS. NEXT!!

PATTI LABELLE. NEVER FAILS TO IMPRESS! PROOF THAT AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR VOICE IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THE GIFT. IT’S A SHAME WHITNEY DIDNT TAKE CARE OF HERS. OTHERWISE SHE STILL SING LIKE MLIYL ERA. ….SIGH!

  3. ANON February 2, 2010

    TEST

  4. Its my opinion February 2, 2010

This is what you call singing. Go jen you hit some fab notes and if whitney likes your version thats all that matters……

  5. ImYourStar702 February 2, 2010

Kim was AMAZING!!!!!! I loved the way how she personalised the song to Whitney theat was so beautiful..

  6. Its Me Again February 2, 2010

Jennifer just LITERALLY sent a chill down my spine, and I don’t mean that as a figure of speech. That girl can effin’ blow. And she made it seem so effortless….

  7. Dilla February 2, 2010

That was a goo performance Jen.

  8. Pinkpop February 2, 2010

gosh…still got goose pimples everywhere after JHUD…so great. by the way…Whitney acts weirdo

  9. Truthteller February 2, 2010

Wow! Kim Burrell and Whitney were taking me to church. I love that performance and Whitney’s reaction. Powerful! The thing about others singer Whitney’s song, because Whitney’s standard is so high and definitive even when someone does a great job, it never measures up to Whitney’s version.

Whitney that’s right, stay prayed up! I enjoyed this tribute. All the performers were good except don’t know why Maxwell and Ryan Leslie were there #random and i was not feeling any of them.

  10. Truthteller February 2, 2010

@Drey24u – actually i’m a huge fan of Patti and I could tell a deterioration of her voice. Her high notes were not as full or effortless, they were rather thin but she still did her thing. I was just feeling Whitney and Kim Burrell – God is great and able!

Bet finally puts on a show devoid of coonery and buffoonery.

  11. Steffon February 2, 2010

JAZMINE, J HUD & KIM BURELL were the BEST of the night hands down

  12. Nikki February 2, 2010

BET actually got a show right…that’s how u were suppose to do a tribute show…classy and put together very well…

  13. JO February 2, 2010

J-Huds performance was heart warning , it was almost as if whitney herself was singing it! i enjoyed Mary too she brought some lifee to the awards , & PATTI need i say more?

  14. ImYourStar702 February 2, 2010

  17. d February 2, 2010

realtalk jhud is 100% better than she was on AI. i believe to the acts today she’s the only one that could do Whitney justice

  18. shoediva telling the truth February 2, 2010

@ ANON – you are a complete FOOL talking about Mary J like that. She is a LEGEND in the industry and she shut it down!!

Jennifer, girl you went back and showed them WHY you are the business, you took that song and made it your own….AWESOME.

Patti was excellent as always and Jazmine did it too.

Those were the great stand out performances of the evening.

  19. FUSION February 2, 2010

Wow – Whitney got taught a lesson lol

  20. Dilla February 2, 2010

I just don’t understand why Mary J Blige the QUEEN performance wasn’t posted? She had everyone on their feet performing her classic hits! Kim Burrell ‘s performance was Fire, why was it not posted? The BET honors was sooo much better than the grammy’s. Jennifer’s performance was good but definitely not a highlight.

  21. Darrell H-Town February 2, 2010

wow Mary and Jennifer Mary is just awsome………….

  22. Rob February 2, 2010

As happy as I am for Whitney, BET already honored her in 2001 in their first awards show when Chirstina A sang Run To You. Why havent they honored Mariah already? It would be so interesting to see artists pay tribute to her and sing some of her classics. Also Essence just honored Mary J. Why is Mariah overlooked by Black awards shows as an icon? Is it because she’s mixed? Hhhmmm.

  23. Tia February 2, 2010

Kim…kim…kim…..she just has a way of turning a song into something soooo unique and wonderful…she sang that song!! and her way!…i cant stand when someone tries to perform a song exactly like an artist,…sing it YOUR way….thats what kim did…she gave me chills and whitney went crazy over Kim…i can see why!…J-hud was good….Jazzy killed it! especially the first half….shes a baby kim burrell if you ask me, everyones always saying she sounds like Lauryn hill but i dont hear it ….i hear Kim all day…i guess the people that dont know much about gospel went to the next best thing and that was lauryn…but they really dont sound that much alike….maybe a few rifts but thats it

where was trey?? i didnt see his….Stevie performance was nice, i loved the harmonies of the other guys (they sounded like the winans…if that was them my bad lol) Mary be clownin…lol…

  24. DizzyGuy1985 February 2, 2010

iI love how whitney was looking at her at one piont with her hand on her hips like “are you going to bring it…” J.Hud did great. I loved that. Whitney really enjoyed that and she is blessed.

  25. MushyLove_1992 February 2, 2010

  32. Music Lover I February 2, 2010

KIM, PATTI, JENNIFER and INDIA were ALL OUTSTANDING. BET did it right with Class & Style. Loved the show!!!!

  33. Antertain February 3, 2010

Jennifer was killing. Didn’t like the end so much but the rest was OUTSTANDING!!!
If she sung like the original i know she woulda tore it up cus she was so comfortable.

  34. Tone February 5, 2010

I agree that some of the tribute performers were great Jenn H./Patti L. ,i can’t say the same about Trey S/or Kim B. b/c there videos were not posted.India I.i think that her choice of song was not good she needs to pick songs that will show her different vocal ranges,it’ great to see that BET is airing positive things that afro americans/african americans can continue to DREAM about where they can progress to if they continue with there entertainment DREAMS and don’t give Up.

  35. cammia February 8, 2010
