New Song: Jennifer Hudson – ‘I Got This’ (A Must Listen)

Published: Tuesday 8th Mar 2011 by Sam

As Jennifer Hudson gears up for the release of her sophomore LP ‘I Remember Me’ (due March 22nd), a song from the set has surfaced in the form of ‘I Got This’.

Take a listen to the rousing, Stargate-produced cut after the jump…

With its anthemic chorus, soaring vocals, and inspiring overtones, this is hands down a winner. This, a fact which makes the selection of the lacking ‘Where You At’ as the project’s lead single even more baffling. For, this is the first track that has me genuinely excited about Ms. Hudson’s project. What’s more, it’s first the semblance of her cultivating her own sound. After all, most of the chart’s acts are too concerned with Euro-Pop beats; hence there is clearly room for Jennifer to make her own unique mark. Fingers crossed the album serves up more this.

    SANG WENCH!! *praise break*

  6. JohnVidal March 8, 2011

Better than anything else she has released. Still her voice is just great for church and she is going to have problems to sell a good amount of albums at any point of her career. In other words: she is no Whitney Houston! (so obvious I know)

  7. MuzikJunkie March 8, 2011

I really like this song! I like Where You At too! So I can’t wait for her album! #IRememberMe

  8. edwardponton March 8, 2011

I love JHud but this isnt single material to me… Just my opinion though.. It doesnt scream 2011

  9. LIONESS March 8, 2011

ummm its alright…she still hasnt won me over. but she is gettin a lot of PR.

  10. BENJAMIN March 8, 2011

Nice, would have been better as a lead single.

  11. Royalkev March 8, 2011

I like it. I don’t understand either how some singles are choosen to kick off an album, when other songs on the album are so much stronger. In fact the likeability for this and “Where you at” aren’t even close. I’m still not in love with this nor am I likely to ever really become a J Hud fan, but this is the direction she must go in to compete! I’m glad to hear her vocals sound different on this track. She should continue to play around with them more.

  12. That FLOP Juice March 8, 2011

It’s a good song, but absolutely not a single material.

  15. Topman March 8, 2011

This generic crap isn’t a Must Listen, Sam.

  16. Who’s Cedric? March 8, 2011

Must listen? Really, Sam? It’s cute…and that’s it.

  17. MAH March 8, 2011

This song is a tie with the “where you at” song, as both should be album songs and not singles at best. Part of the problem with the two songs are the titles themselves. Because her approach to songs is to make them power ballads having titles with colloquialisms doesn’t sound nice in the hook on either track. This problem reminds me of that awful line from Whitney’s “try it on my own” where she sings ” i’ll live my life the way feel/ and no matter I’m gonna keep it real, you know” such lyrics are jarring in a mid-tempo song and unless you have the attitude a la Monica, then it just doesn’t work. “Where you at” and now “I got this,” a little more sophistication in the lyrics would be helpful, this was achieved before in “Spotlight” as the reference was a clever way to express the experience she was looking to convey. All I can say is JHud do better, and I mean that in only the best way.

  18. Judge & Jury March 8, 2011

Like I said, Clive Davis has turned her into a BOOORING A/C rnb artist!! Lame and cheesy. Sounds like from the 90’s. Screaming and her lame monotone gospel belts. NEXT!

  19. A- March 8, 2011

    I like her voice….

but I think the producers arent giving her their best material.

This doesnt scream hit, either her first single.

I cant believe she hasnt released a worldwide hit yet, with all the potential she has.

  20. JAY March 8, 2011

This is better than “Where You At”, but by no means is this the classic material she should be recording.

She needs to work with the producers Adele, Melanie Fiona, and Jazmine Sullivan work with because she is getting subpar songs and production.

  21. Dave March 8, 2011

I love “Where You At.” To each his/her own thou. I prefer “Where You At” than this, maybe it’ll grow on me.

  22. E11 March 8, 2011

    meh

  23. Prince&Queen March 8, 2011

This song is kinda good it didn’t wow me. This song sound better than her single Where You At.

  24. Ariana March 8, 2011

    Not bad but…
Somehow I just cannot “connect” with her voice, seems emotionless to me.

Definitely better than the first single though, that’s certain.

  25. DEE March 8, 2011

COME ON JENNIFER I LOVE YOUR VOICE BUT THESE SONGS ARE NOT SHOWING OFF YOUR VOICE TO WELL WE NEED THAT DREAM GIRLS JENNIFER BACK THIS IS NOT IT I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT DOE COME HARDER

  26. jmari March 8, 2011

  27. Malachi March 8, 2011

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS WOMAN U KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIIIII REALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. ojie king March 8, 2011

its just so sad that with such a good voice delivers such poor and forgettable material. please let next moth come already so that Beyonce can take care of all of this messes we have to listen to!

  29. parisian girl March 9, 2011

    Meh i don’t like it
this b**** is so basic and boring

  30. BeyonceIsComingHaterz March 9, 2011

wtf this trash isnt a must listen and she can sang her ass of but this song is boring. If this isnt love was her best single so far and it did nothing on the charts. she needs to sing gospel her and fantasia. but she has a great voice

  31. blazinyella March 9, 2011

Jennifer sings circles around Beyonce..Be real with yourself!!!

  32. loumorgan March 9, 2011

    EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

  33. Jair March 9, 2011

Personally, I LOVE it. I love “Where You At” and this song. So far, so good. Can’t wait to hear the album.

  34. whatyousay March 9, 2011

This is trash and with her having a nice voice, her producers couldn’t come better for her. Both Jen and Beyonce have great voice, but Beyonce will not settle for trash as this. Beyonce pays for great beats/producers. Jen is doing the best for what she paid for. If this is the kind of music she will be releasing, she’s going to flop real hard.

  35. CURLY SUE March 9, 2011

HER MUSIC SUCKS. SHE NEEDS TO EXPERIMENT WITH HER VOICE MORE.

  36. QueenofPopJanet March 9, 2011

I’m just grateful she isn’t releasing f** pop like everyone else right now.

  37. meme March 9, 2011

love it!!! much better than wya

  38. SJAMZ27 March 9, 2011

I Love it! yesss jenn yess! lol

  39. Stila Ghyrl March 9, 2011

Love it! Its grown folks music and most of all its an inspirational power ballad. She is great at power ballads. The meaning is on point. Its like the grown up version of DC’s Survivor. Love all I’ve heard so far.

  40. S*** March 9, 2011

    OMG @SAM

You had me thinking this was gonna be the next ‘We Belong Together’ or ‘Dangerously in Love’!! CH… MEH

  41. dale23 March 9, 2011

This is okay….maybe it’ll grow on me a little, but its not like its one of those emotion-evoking songs i thought it would be based on your desciption….

And the beat during the hook is killing me with the static sound.

  42. mylovin March 9, 2011

LOVE, LOVE LOVE, J-HUD!! That heffa can sing and breath life into anything. Not as dynamic as Where You At?, but like WYA?, the message is on point. I’m loving the lyrics as much as her inspirational/”make you shout”, sangin’!!

  43. Jerri March 9, 2011

Wow, I love it! The first single “Where You At” is really good too! Check it out if you haven’t heard it 😉 http://bit.ly/gGYHsr

  44. NICK March 9, 2011

  45. Jason March 9, 2011

Wait until you here the songs, ‘Gone’ and “I Remember Me’…I really didn’t like Where You At, but I will definitely go out and purchase this album from the songs I’m hearing now!! She is bringing the heat, and will definitely win Grammy’s off of this album..JUST WATCH~

  46. Shanice March 9, 2011

I don’t know. Jennie Jennie Jennie! I want to like it so badly. I admit, the production on this song is better than the first. Neither should be singles, though. It’s almost summertime. Guys want songs that girls will go to clubs and shake they azzes to and girls want songs that they can shake to. I prefer something like this, but I don’t see women running to the dance floor when(big if) the dj spins this. And I’m speaking of black women, which is her main audience. This is for older folk, aroung their 30s, who really don’t buy music b/c they know how to download or get it from the bootleg ppl at work or can get their kids to do it.

  47. Jayla06 March 9, 2011

LOL @ Shanice….So Jenn should be making songs for h***, strippers, and thugs now?Just like the song says, SHE GOT THIS! I like this song, and I like “Gone” even more, she will definitely sell more this time around.

  48. Miguel March 9, 2011

Firstly, Where You At is a great song, a great urban/adult comtempary hit, and a great single. Some of you people need to open your ears and your minds as well. Secondly, I Got This sound very nice, on my first listen I like it a lot, and I must admit it does leave me with a better first impression than Where You At, however after really listening to Where You At and viewing the live performance, it definintely tremendously grew on me each time I listened to it and for me, it’s a better first single than I Got This would have been no doubt. With the first second, this leak, and the few previews of the album I’ve heard, it’s certain to say that I will indeed be purchasing I Remember Me at Wal-mart when it comes out or in April.

  49. Shanice March 10, 2011

@Jayla06 No, I did not say that, I’m saying since ppl complain about her flopping b/c of the songs she makes, I’m saying that’s why. It’s close to summertime. People want to dance, they’ll be in the club every darn night. Her targert audience is blacks, and ppl her age. Guess what, those ppl(not me I like the song somewhat) are the club hopping group. The baggy pants, leggings and short dresses are the consuming market. That’s who she has to make music for, or water her music down and reach out to the white audience. Either way, the music she makes doesn’t fit the consuming market of today, not with where she does promo.

  50. Jayla06 March 10, 2011

Shanice….When did she flop? Her last album didn’t flop, and from the looks of this album won’t be flopping either (so don’t worry)! If you don’t like her music, then don’t buy it….but don’t go saying she should restrict herself to making club music so people can shake their ass in the summer. BTW, those same people you speak of don’t buy albums….they download it and make mixtapes! The people who actually buy the album are the grown folks…and trust and believe J-Hud has a big fanbase that will buy her album. Thanks

  51. Jayla06 March 10, 2011

Just to add..Don’t we have enough of “ass-shaking” music on the radio nowadays that you can shake to in the clubs? SMDH at some comments lol. Go listen to Beyonce and Ciara for that mess, we are already bombarded with enough classless music on the airways, we definitely don’t need to add Ms. Hudson to that list.

  52. Cheers (Drink to That) March 10, 2011

I smell a tremendous FLOP… sorry, I love JHUD, she is amazingly talented! But ALL of her material as of late is either BORING or FORGETABLE! I can’t believe this is the kind of stuff that she’s releasing! SMDH I bought the first album, but I don’t see myself buying this one!

Chile Please with this subpar MESS!

  53. THE ONE March 11, 2011

    @CHEERS (DRINK TO THAT)
And this is coming from a Rihanna fan? NEXT! As the song says, Jenn GOT THIS, she doesn’t need you to buy the album to be successful.

  54. JuanR March 16, 2011

    Great!

  55. mita March 17, 2011

i love her music, and this song is really nice
