Grammy Awards Categories Get Revamped

Published: Wednesday 6th Apr 2011 by Trent

Change has finally come to the Grammy Awards. In an announcement made today by the President/CEO of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, and Academy Board Chair Emeritus, Jimmy Jam, it was revealed that the voting system of the prestigious ceremony has been restructured.

The total number of categories for next year’s 54th Grammy Awards ceremony have been reduced from 109 to only 78 with all fields remaining the same. Furthermore, in the genres of Pop, R&B, Rap and Country music, all distinctions between male and female performances have been erased, and group performances and collaborations have been combined into a single category.

Read a full explanation of all the changes here and look below for a comparison of the 2010 ceremony to next year’s show below:

  3. Music Lover April 6, 2011

    This is STUPID….why revamp the Male / Female genres…some very worthy nominees will be overlooked every year ESPECIALLY in the R&B Field

  4. luvey April 6, 2011

    I’m happpy they did this now mabey people will start putting out better music. I always felt like they just gave Grammys away.

  5. Perrylicious April 6, 2011

    IRRELEVANT!

  6. Johnathan parada April 6, 2011

    More grammys for beyonce *files minx*

  7. Songbirdie April 6, 2011

    I dunno about this…I can’t help but to think that the r&b artist are going to be jibbed…

    Black artist who perform pop songs and not r&b songs are going to be nominated for those r&b categories whereas the real r&b artist are going to be left out…right? I dunno something seems off…we’ll see

  8. Kate April 6, 2011

    who even cares?
    this award is irrelevant

  9. paigej April 6, 2011

    Definitely a bad idea why combine the female/male categories? Smfh that makes it harder and a lot of artists with talent will then as someone said above be overlooked pushing un talented pathetic “singers/entertainers”forward… I can’t with this BS

  10. Lady Babyboo April 6, 2011

    SO they got rid of the Beyonce award(Best Contemp. R&B album)

    They merged female and male vocal performances into one category.

    They got rid of Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals

    And Best Urban/Alternative Performance

    It seems that the R&B categories along with the rock categoris took the biggest hit.

  11. Lioness April 6, 2011

    damn comp is gonna be tight….s*** nominations are gonna be tighter

    im feeling that i still think there should be a distinction between female & male singers??? *shrugs shoulders*

  14. Who’s Cedric? April 6, 2011

    Competition is gonna be fierce now! I just know Adele will sweep the Grammys next year.

  15. MJSTAN April 6, 2011

    I THINK THEY MADE IT THIS WAY SO IT WILL BE HARDER TO WIN GRAMMYS,COS HONESTLY THEY WERE BECOMING ALMOST TOO EASY TO WIN
    HOWEVER,COMBINING MALE AND FEMALE CATEGORIES MIGHT NOT BE THE WAY COS THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT

  16. deejaybaps April 6, 2011

    whoops i mean *im not feeling that

  17. Really….. April 6, 2011

    This only benefits the talented. So it looks like Rihanna and Britney won’t be winning any Grammys anymore. Bey is in the clear, and as long as Gaga keeps doing dance music I guess she will be fine. The Grammy association clearly saw the GREAT singers are no longer around so vocal categories needed to be joint.

  18. Blasian April 6, 2011

    This is soooooo STUPID! But Hey more grammys for My Bey 🙂

  19. GangsterA April 6, 2011

    Great More Grammys 4 Queen Bey You Know The B**** Will Get Noms 4 All Of These R&B/Pop/Rock/Alternative/Dance-Electronica And You All Will Deal

  20. Blasian April 6, 2011

    This is soooooooooooo STUPID! But hey more Grammys for Queen Bey

  21. dc thats me April 6, 2011

    That’s sounds so stupid to combine Male & Female categories.

    But I agree, They will def start putting out better music now.

  22. ThatBoyLuke (AKA FUTURESTAR) April 6, 2011

    MMMM no, i dont like that they got rid of Male & Female categories, that is so dumb…

  23. MISHKA April 6, 2011

    They should have kept the male/female separate. It will get harder for male artists in R&B field and for female artists in the Rock field.

    I’m only happy with the Pop field because Pop nowadays is mostly garbage.

    They should have add a Grammy category for Best Live Vocals because we KNOW those who would never ever got up there. *won’t say no name*

  24. ICON April 6, 2011

    I can’t with this fuckery lol. Why get rid of male & female categories O_o, Make you wonder did they really think this though?

    Cheer Up!! Two great things come out of this:

    1) Now No-Talent artist like GAGa cant Win Them anymore. 🙁

    2) Now when Bey Wins them the haters cant say “well, oh she has no Competition” or “they just gave them to her”. 😆

    Im sure Bey & Alicia Keys has something to do with this decision lol, too bad bey is gonna SNATCH them up REGARDLESS though…

  28. royalkev April 6, 2011

    I don’t like this idea. The male and female categories should remain seperate. There will be way too many people overlooked in every genre. They already have awards that is open for anyone to win that’s male, female, rock, pop or R&B (Record of the year, Album of the year, Song of the year, Best new artist for example). I understand combining duo/group and collaborations and even eliminating best contemporary R&B album, but there has to be some distinctions here.

  29. CBA April 6, 2011

    This just means people with actual vocal talent will win!!!! No more for RihRih, Katy Perry, Gaga etc. Etc. Britney can still sing!!! Bey is gonna win a few!! Chris needs a new ballad to get nominated for the Grammys – Jordin Sparks!! Love the new list but they should have left the male & female thing!!

  30. Malachi April 6, 2011

    Shall I tell u who’s fault this is….. RIHANNA’S

    She won a Grammy and the Producers must have thought…. HOLD THE F*** UP……………….

    Ummmm HMMMMM!

    Bey is STILL gonna WIN in ALL 4 R&B FIELD categories, 😆
    Bey is STILL gonna WIN ATLEAST 1 in the POP Field
    & Bey is STILL gonna WIN ATLEAST 1 in the GENERAL FIELD

    & lets not forget Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, & ROCK Field is still Open for possibility also…

    Bey STILL has the POTENTIAL to win 8/9 in one night & Break even MORE GRAMMY RECORDS!!!

    who the hell still watches that s***?……

    Ill start takin it seriously when they start to give REAL SINGERS, ENTERTAINERS, awards..

    until then they can suck a huge n**..

    to win a grammy, its about who u f******, who u paying…f*** the grammys

  36. None Ya April 6, 2011

    Prepare to drag some angry stans saying that Bey “bought”them! You KNOW their faves is broke when they say Bey bought her Grammys! That means that their faves don’t have Bey’s money to buy their own!

  37. Rated Xxx(aka rated x) April 6, 2011

    I remember the days when it used to be a priviledge, honor, to win a grammy…

    now, s***,

    just like the oscars, its about who u know, who u paying, to get 1….

    that s*** makes me so mad…

  38. Bdaboss April 6, 2011

    This won’t last long. It’s way too competitive.

  39. JohnVidal April 6, 2011

    Huge changes!!!
    Maybe it´s for the better, we´ll see
    And what is the thing retarded Beyonce stans don´t get??? Now your fake favorite can win LESS than before cos the R&B categories have been reduced. Of course she has not won in a main category except for once, so she has it more difficult now. Main categories are for Adele next year, or at least somebody more creative than Bey

  40. Kelly April 6, 2011

    Damn Chris Brown will never win a Grammy!!

  41. MKH April 6, 2011

    I don’t like this one bit! But I guess it does create a little bit more competition and I guess the Grammys want this since they have been accused of giving the same people awards every year.

    For some reason, I think he stands more chance this time around.

    R&B: “Up to You” , “No BS”
    Pop: “All back”, “Next to You”, “Oh My love”
    Rap: “Look at me now”, “My Last”
    Dance: “Beautiful People”, “Yeah 3x”

    As long as he puts out the best videos and he keeps buzzing, I’m pretty sure there’ll be more than a celebration moment next february.

    If once Before that means Beyonce Won in a Main category

    DUMB ASS HATER LOL!

  45. MKH April 6, 2011

    This also makes it harder for new artists because you know the Grammys like to nominate the SAME people…who sometimes suck.

  46. zania April 6, 2011

    Actually i the R & B field they took out vocal performance and just have best performance, Looks like my boy Chris will finally get his grammy.

  47. zania April 6, 2011

    They took out vocal performance and replaced it with Best R&B Performance, so Chris will win his first grammy.

  48. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    I don’t like it all. Especially the fact that they eliminated the Contemporary R&B award, that’s a DEEP slap in the face to MJ who is the father of it. If anything they should add more catagories in the various genres.

  49. VLB April 6, 2011

    So The Grammy’s have stoped giving awards for Vocal Perfromance. O I thought they started that ban 5 years ago!

  51. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    I don’t like it all. Especially the slicing of the R&B catagories. Getting rid of the Contemporary R&B award is a slap in the face of MJ, the one who birthed the genre. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

  52. KaVion April 6, 2011

    You guys don’t see this one pretty big issue?
    Best R&B Album
    Best Contemporary R&B Album ————————> Best R&B Album

    So we can pretty much GUARANTEE that no pure R&B artists will be recieviing Grammys for their awards. The contemperary R&B artists and the traditionals are going head to head. More than likely half the time the mainstream R&B artists will take the gold.

    I mean, can you actually see them giving El Debarge the Grammy over Usher? They should, but I doubt the would.

    Not sure how I feel about this change.

  53. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @John…

    Well, actually Bey has been nominated in the general categories numerous times and even has a Song of the Year Award(Single Ladies). The Grammys love her. Besides, the girl has 16 Grammys(3rd most in female history) and she’s not 30 yet so even if she never wins another award, Bey’s Grammy legacy is sealed.

  57. KaVion April 6, 2011

    Chris could possibly win a Grammy for All Back, She Ain’t You or Beautiful People. I couldn’t see him winning one for anything else off F.A.M.E (They wouldn’t give Justin a Grammy)

  58. S*** April 6, 2011

    LMAO, These FIST FROWN Stans have officially Lost it if they think he has a CHANCE IN HELL at a GRAMMY!!!! LMAOOOOOOO.

    All his material as of Late sounds like it could have been made RIGHT THEN & THERE!! What I mean by this is, if the song is 3 Mins & 45 Secs Long then it sounds like it took just THAT LONG to make it. 😆

    His album material is just so SUB-PAR & LACK LUSTER with all that AUTOTUNE Mess.

    Chris is even more FAST FOOD than Rihanna!!!, He’ll NEVER win one!!

    He honestly had a better Chance during his PRIME 3 Years Ago… 😐

  59. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    Tell them again: Best R&B Album

    That’s one of the things I didn’t like in 2009. How was SL and Pretty Wings going up against each other for R&B Song of the Year? Too different songs(Great songs but different) and yet they are competing against each other. I think they should have more catagories especially for R&B, then traditional R&B wouldn’t have to compete with Contemporary R&B because they are two different lanes. However, no one is really doing true classic R&B for the most part, even the ones who is “branded” as that but…still I always felt there should have been more catagories to accomodate this.

  60. S*** April 6, 2011

    I hate to be so Frank but Even TREY has a BETTER SHOT!! (at the Grammys)

  61. carl April 6, 2011

  62. S April 6, 2011

  63. paigej April 6, 2011

    @shani the only thing you can come up with is “now Chris Brown will NEVER get a Grammy”? Why single out Chris? Lmfaooo

    But I really don’t like this idea they should’ve kept the female/male categories the same! Now its even more competition and its going to be hard for R&B male artists especially!!!

    @XXXrated… Co-sign!!! The Grammys are not what it used to be smh

  64. S*** April 6, 2011

    @Rated Xxx(aka rated x

    Your OBVIOUSLY just BITTER cause JASMINE SUFFEREN & her STRAINED Vocals will NEVER win one!!!

    @carl

    I AGREE, 109 is WAYYYYY too Many awards, Trent listed only about 2 Dozen categories, That was DOZENS more awards going to the IRRELAVANT!!!!!!

  65. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @Ingrid Okonta

    I understand what you are saying(i see your point but the grammy should be hard to win. They have been giving it away to easily. Its like your selling a product. You got to put out your best work and: So it just means that s** songs won’t cut it anymore. It has to have soul and powerful lyrics. This makes artist work extra harder) but what he is saying is that pretty much the traditional R&B is going to be overlooked(except for that one token category). And I don’t like it. Like the example I gave to Kavion. There was no way that both Single Ladies and Pretty Wings By Maxwell should have been competing with each other in 2009. There should be more categories as far as I am concerned especially in R&B.

  66. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @INGRID OKONTA
    We don’t know what the Grammys are planning though. This also is a frightening possibitlity, what if the contemporary R&B artists get bumped down to Pop?? I mean, if I had to choose between R&B & Pop for F.A.M.E, I’d call it a Pop record. Then Chris would be stuck going against other Pop acts like Rihanna, Katy & Gaga, same with Bey. They’d have less of a shot agianst Pop artists than their fellow Contemporary R&B artists.

    You’re right, this could raise the prestige of the Grammys, but it could also cause even more artists to be overlooked.

    @CURT WILL
    I know, I wish they put Bey in another category as well. They got her wrong this year to. Halo Live is an R&B version of the song, yet they put in Pop.

    @S***
    Please, shut the f*** up. Chris deserves a Grammy. He writes all his music, has the vocals & makes great music. Trey makes great music as well, but Chris deserves a damn Grammy. Basic music? All Back, take a listen. I swear your logic is ridiculous.

    Don’t come after Chris regarding the Grammys, you hate when people do the same to Bey.

    Exactly! At first I was like I don’t really give a damn, but now that I look at it again, it doesn’t make any sense to do combine the male and female categories! This is so stupid! What the f*** were they thinking?!?!? This is blasphemy!

    I did think that those 100 something or another categories was a bit much, but they cut it down drastically and the way they did it doesn’t make any sense! I wonder if they get enough complaints will they change it cause I have a feeling a lot of people in the industry are not gonna be happy about this at all!

  73. annie April 6, 2011

    As I read the comments all I can say is, SERIOUSLY? Chris Brown has people that pressed??? Really? or is it one set of stans? because I can’t think of anything that would make people come on this post and he’s the first name that comes into their mind.

    I see the R****** Navy is coming out of the woodworks talking s*** AGAIN! Proof that you pressed b****** can’t stop thinking about Breezy and you keep his name in your mouths!! Always bringing his name up with something that has nothing to do with him! Why does he concern you sooo much?! Get off his nuts already damn!

    Do ya’ll even comprehend what ya’ll read?! How the hell does this mean he is not going to win a Grammy?!?! This doens’t effect him more than it affect any other artist!! If anything t makes it easier for the truly talented artst, like CB to win a Grammy!

    You know pretty much everything ya’ll said that Breezy couldn’t do has been happeningfor him! So keep on saying that he will not win a Grammy! You dumbass forehead stans are gonna look just as dumb as she looks with that red wig come next February!

  75. KaVion April 6, 2011

    Shut the hell up. I mean, seriously. I love Beyonce with all my heart, but she can’t see MJ on a stage. How the hell is MJ just a dancer? How is he not a performer?

    Same with Chris, he’s also a PERFORMER, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4aBMcTtxJo

  76. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @Kavion

    I agree, but I think they put Halo in that category because they put the recorded version in there the last time. And your scenario(This also is a frightening possibitlity, what if the contemporary R&B artists get bumped down to Pop) is an very big possibility. If you talk to a lot of people always group Contemporary R&B(Urban Top 40) with Pop Music. All the time. No difference between say Beyonce and Britney.So I can see the same thing, and I don’t think I like it. But it is what it is.

    @Ingrid:

    But I don’t think it will. “Crappy” music is going to be done, no matter what the Grammys do. And it wasn’t THAT easy to win a Grammy. Because if that was the case, then more entertainers from 2000 to now would have Double Digital Grammys. And as for R&B, there is more to R&B than ‘soul”, country has “soul” but they aren’t the same genre. Why not just eliminate every category except for the general fields, if there is too many catagories? Most only care about those awards anyways.

  77. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @VA STAND UP
    Don’t act like Beyonce

    I agree with you going in on S***, but what is that supposed to mean?

  78. zania April 6, 2011

    Well all the top executive in the industry and billboard, stated after reviewing Chris album they felt that Chris has the R & B on lock, no competition,, their words not mines, but they still don’t think his pop songs are the top 3 out of all the pop artist. He has officially today 3 platinum songs on his album, Deuces, LAMN, YEAH 3X and one gold song- NOBULLSHIT. He still has two more singles to release, She aint you. He will win a Grammy next year. I am that confident he will win.

  79. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @CURT WILL
    Just he thought of Bey, Chris, Usher, Britney & Gaga having to go head to head with eachother gets me a little worked up. That’s not right, the difference between Contemporary R&B artists and Pop artists is they actually have strong vocals. They just incorporate different sounds into their music. Take Janelle Monae for example, she was in Contemporary R&B because she incorporated funk, jazz, doo wop etc. into her album, that album wasn’t Pop at all though.

    The categories should still be divided between Male & Female vocals, and Contemporary R&B and Traditional R&B

    STOP IT because if it wasn’t for MJ, BEYONCE(CAPS FOR EMPHASIS NOT SCREAMING) WOULDN’T BE IN THE INDUSTRY. WOULDN’T HAVE A TEMPLATE FOR HER MUSIC AND PERFORMING. And every TRUE Beyoncé fan/stan KNOWS THIS. Stop using this site to create stanwars.

  81. VA STAND UP!! April 6, 2011

    @S***: Your name is perfect for you cause all you do is talk s***! I guess when you are full of s***, talking s*** is ALL you are capable of!!

    If anything this might make it harder for Beyonce to keep snatching up Grammy’s that she is undeserving of and let some talented people who get over looked finally win some!
    Even I as a ‘sane’ Beyonce fan can admit she didn’t deserve all her Grammy’s! Expecially with all these claims of her taking credit for songs she DIDN’T write!

  82. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @Kavion

    I am glad you mentioned Janelle because not only Contemporary R&B is mainstream which is what Pop Music is all about. Let’s face it, Urban Top 40 is Black Pop Music but it’s a different lane from Gaga, Britney, Katy and etc. I am still shocked that Contemporary R&B is no longer a category. LOL.

  83. the kiddz April 6, 2011

    @VA Stand Up

    So, what does acting like Beyonce entail? I understand your frustration with @S***, but let’s not with the subtle jabs at Bey.

    Anyway, I’m over the Grammys. Why would they eliminate the Contemporary R&B album?Like @Curtwill said, MJ was the origin of that category. Makes no sense at all.

  84. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @VA STAND UP
    I said it once, and I’ll say it again. S*** is full of his self, therefore he’s full of S***.

    @CURT WILL
    Right?? I mean they completely got rid of it! Wow, that means that will lose HALF the amount of R&B acts nominated. Which means it’ll be an ever tighter competition for R&B nods, meaning even more R&B acts will go unnoticed. That’s it, this has to be a scam to OFFICIALLY kill R&B.

  85. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @Va_Stand_Up

    How did I KNOW that you was going to go there in some variation or form?: Expecially with all these claims of her taking credit for songs she DIDN’T write!

    Especially since NONE of this is proven why even go there? In fact, other than 4 songs(one of them with DC), she only has 4 song of the year awards(which is for songwriting), including one in the general field category so how many grammys do you think she deserves based on that?

  86. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @THE KIDDZ
    Read my comment to Curt:
    “Wow, that means that will lose HALF the amount of R&B acts nominated. Which means it’ll be an ever tighter competition for R&B nods, meaning even more R&B acts will go unnoticed. That’s it, this has to be a scam to OFFICIALLY kill R&B.”

    I wouldn’t be surprised if the industry has been plotting to kill R&B for a while now. First with radio, now the awards. I know it sounds crazy, Lol

    I mean why didn’t they narrow down the Rock categories? Isn’t there still Rock AND best Hard Rock?

  87. KaVion April 6, 2011

    I’m over this b******* -_-

  88. the kiddz April 6, 2011

    @Kavion

    Actually, it makes plenty of sense to assume that they’re trying to eliminate R&B. It’s simply not as cherished as it was in the 90’s.

  89. the kiddz April 6, 2011

    @CurtWill

    Of course she went there: “Expecially with all these claims of her taking credit for songs she DIDN’T write!”

    It’s the only thing they THINK they can pull to discredit Bey, when those accusations have been false from the get go. Not to mention how the producers she works with credit her on her arrangements. AND most of her Grammys are for VOCAL performance, but I guess she didn’t deserve those too, huh?

  90. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @THE KIDDZ
    *Sigh*
    I guess it’s just the way things go though. Every decade has a new era of music. Soul/Motown, Rock, Disco, Electro, Traditional Hip Hop, and R&B all had their turns. Now Dance and Pop ballads are having their shot. Hopefully this changes as this decade continues on though. The only plus of the new decade so far is substance. At tleast songs have meaning again.

    And what makes Chris deserving besides his mediocre writing skills, mediocre voice, & overautotuned songs. Chris fans always wanna attack Rihanna for having GENERIC music, but I bought F.A.M.E two days ago and that album is full of generic electro pop trash and his voice doesn’t mesh with the r&b songs. The album in my opinoon is a 2.5/5!

    The male R&b/pop artist I believe is most worthy of a grammy is BRUNO MARS. He has a wonderful voice, writes great songs, and is a musician and composer.

  96. VA STAND UP!! April 6, 2011

    @Kavion: I was so worked up I didn’t finish my sentence! Forgive me! Lol!

    I was gonna say don’t act like Beyonce hasn’t put out some straight garbage material in her career! ‘Check On It’, ‘Radio’, ‘Bootylicicous’ were cute catchy records, but definitely not something with any substance and far from Grammy worthy. Especially in her DC days!

    Every artist has put out some BS material and Beyonce is NO exception! At damn near 30 years old Beyonce has released material that would be more suitable for someone much younger, like a JoJo or Tiffany Evens.

    ‘Video Phone’ was probably the worst record she ever released! It was stupid, classless and she should have been ashamed of herself for that wack ass video! Her last album was probably her worst and I don’t see any growth with her albums. It’s like each one gets a lil bit worse that the last. She doens’t seem to be progressing as an artist at all!!

    I agree with your comments as well! That asswip @S*** is the reason why Bey stans get so much heat! Acting like Bey is so above everyone else and everything she has done is groundbreaking! B**** Please! How many time has Bey been put on straight BLAST for taking credit for songs she didn’t write?! Beyonce herself doesn’t even take herself that seriously!!

  97. zania April 6, 2011

    @DIONISH Didn’t Chris help DWTS have the highest ratings ever on that day. Even his haters kept saying how talented he is. Please, Chris will get at least one Grammy next year. Like I said earlier Billboard executives said Chris owns R & B category, he has R & B on lock. I didn’t make that up, its what I read.

  98. Curtwill April 6, 2011

    @The_kiddz

    Unfortunately for her…even that vanishes like dust in the wind because only GOSSIP BLOGS give it any credence for sensationalism and trying to prove that they have “tea”

    Lol, I figured you meant no hardm. I know you like Bey, LOL.

    I agree about the songs you listed, except Radio. That song comes off as a simple minded pop song, but it’s actually quite complex. She’s personifying music, or specifically the radio. She’s saying her first love is music and how that’s all she needs. It’s a very relatable and kind of beautiful song actually: “I think I’m in love with my radio, ‘cus it never lets me down”. Video Phone was complete s*** though!

  102. KaVion April 6, 2011

  103. zania April 6, 2011

    Review: Chris Brown has R&B on lock, but what about pop?
    No Bull” is a certified R&B jam, and the Ludacris-assisted “Wet the Bed” is just as good.

    Even on smooth grooves that aren’t sexually charged, Brown sounds top-notch. “Deuces,” a No. 1 R&B hit, was one of last year’s best songs, and like it, “Up to You” is destined to hit the top spot — and it deserves to be

    Jody Rose of Rolling Stone agreed, noting that the songs on F.A.M.E. are much stronger than the entries on Graffiti. “F.A.M.E. boasts blockbuster hits and shows Brown has a good nose for production,” he wrote in a three-star review. “[It] is a pop ‘n’ b album with something for everyone: bedroom ballads, dance-floor thumpers and even ‘Next 2 You,’ a puppy-love declaration with guest vocals by Justin Bieber.”

    —————————————————————————————

    That’s your ‘opinion’ about Chris and his album! People said that about his last album and it got two Grammy nominations including one for Best Contemporary R&b album so CLEARLY your ‘opinion’ doesn’t mean S***!!!!

    F.A.M.E. is a mix of several genres and with each album he has shown growth in his vocals, writing skills and proves he can transition from several different genres and have success in each! Not too many artist can say that! I NEVER said that Chris hasn’t had silly records with no substance, but for every one of those records he has produced one of quality but for some reason his records with no substance tend to perform better and his with substance get overlooked! I.E. ‘ICTY” performing better than ‘Crawl’ on tHot 100 two years ago.

    ‘All Back’, Next To You’, ‘Up To You’ and ‘Should’ve Kissed You’, ‘Beautiful People’, ‘All About You’ are all beautiful records with meaning and if you can’t see that then that is just your damn bad! That’s probably because your head is too far stuck Beyonce’s ass!

    Like I said I am a Beyonce fan, but her stans like S***, need to fall all the way the f*** back! As many times as she has been put on blast for stealing song writing credits, you would think ya’ll would be more humble ans stop attacking other artist! Ya’ll act like Beyonce’s s*** don’t stink and she is so above every other artist and she is NOT!! I truly don’t think she deserved all her Grammy’s! There are plenty of other talented female artist who actually write their own s*** that get over looked cause Bey is constantly being nominated even when she hasn’t had an album out in 2 damn years! The fact that her father is on the Grammy panel probably doesn’t hurt her either!

  125. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @ZANIA
    Not to be a smart ass, but that was the news in 2010. Since then we’ve confirmed that the album isn’t really Pop are particularly R&B. It has a big African influence with a lot of soul influences as well. Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, The Stylistics, MJ & Fela Kuti are the main influences. Three of those artists are Soul, one’s Pop, and one makes traditional African music.

Quit bullshittin Chris deserves at least one Grammy he is too talented to just keep getting brushed under the rug like some talent less gimmick! I love Bey, she is my fave female ‘entertainer’, but I don’t believe that Bey deserved all her Grammy’s, I am glad she took a break cause I was quite sick of seeing her at every damn award show, I believe she likes to attach herself to popular artist who are hot just to keep her name out there (I.E. Shakira, Lady Gaga), I believe she looks a hot s***** as mess with those tacky ass wigs she wears sometimes( not all of them but a lot of them), & I DO believe she took credit for songs that she didn’t write! If I offend anyone with what I said then TOO DAMN BAD!!!

    For people saying that her stealing the song writing credits are just claims that haven’t proven come up off of it! Too many people have come out of the woodworks making those ‘claims’ for some of it not to be true! Even if some of them were exaggerated, those claims came from somewhere! You think all those people just got together and decided to gang up on Bey?! Get real! Ne Yo may be an annoying lil p****, but I believe he is an honest p**** and told the truth about her taking credit for ‘Irreplaceable’!

    If you come after my fave expect me to be not so nice to yours! That’s just the way I do! If it offends anyone, then f*** you and your feelings! Beyonce stans need to get over themselves and stop acting like Beyonce’s s*** don’t stink!!

    If you are mad, stay the f*** mad!

    @Kavion, Usher and R & kelly album was nominated this year. Do the grammy nominate the same album twice? ALicia Keys suppose to drop an album in the fall. I forgot about Mary J Blige, but her last album didn’t do that well.

    bey will rack up in the r&b fields

  158. hp April 6, 2011

    @ va stand up

    bey deserves all her grammys.most of them is r&B and she always kill that field

  159. KaVion April 6, 2011

    @ZANIA
    Usher’s in the works for another album though, that’s why I said “If he hurries his ass up” Lol. Kells is set to release Zodiac sometime this year as well. I didn’t know Alicia’s was coming so soon, she’ll definantly be nominated then. OH YEAH, J. Hud as well! The Grammys love her, she’ll get a nod. Well actually it’s hard to say who will because they combined the categories! If they didn’t I’m sure Bey, Chris, Usher, Kells, Alicia, Mary J, J Hud., Monica & Brandy would all get nods. Unfortunately there’s only 5 slots for R&B albums now.

    @HP
    She already did the two at once thing already though, remember? IIWAB & Single Ladies.

  160. i’m a s&m loving billy goat (spank me please!!) April 6, 2011

    This is complete and total BULSH**! Why make it more challeging for artist to get a Grammy? It’s already nearly impossible! Why not keep the pop, r&b, country & rap categories intact and remove the nonsense categories like the mess that R****** was handed a Grammy for. What was that best technical support in a video? WTH??

    I think Bey deserved the Grammys for her collabs with Stevie & Luther, her Grammy for DIL the album and the song, the Grammy for Crazy In Love, the Grammy for IASF, Halo & SL for song of the year. Along with all her Grammys with DC.

    She deserved 13/16 of her Grammys. Arguably 15/16 though, the only Grammy she 100% didn’t deserve was “Best Contemporary R&B Album” for B’Day.

  165. zania April 6, 2011

    B-Day is Beyonce’s second best album behind I Am..

    People are always saying the album lacked substance but in reality that album had WOMAN POWER written all over it. In the songs on that album like Green Light and Suga Mama she is playing the role which would usually bbe played by a man. In ‘Kitty Kat’ she is letting the ladies know that is he ain’t doin right then he can’t get the prized possession. In ‘Upgrade U’ she is obviously talking about how a man needs a strong woman to be successful. In Freakum Dress she’s letting the women know that if they man wanna act up then they have every right to go out and have fun. Get Me Bodied is just a feel good song. Irreplaceable is obviously aabout getting the strength to kick his dirty ass ‘too the left’. Resentment is more of a vulnerable song that talks about loving your lover all though he did you wrong. Then there is Flaws and All which is my favorite song ever which is about being loved despite of your flaws. And Listen talks about just letting your voice be heard.

    Right, CB only appeals to BET crowd now. Ok then….

    That’s why he got Three Grammy Nominations THIS year including one for his flop album “Graffiti’ How many did Ci-ERROR get for her back to back flop albums?? I’ll wait…..

    That’s why he got a AMA nomination for Best male R&b Artist! How man AMA nominatins did Ci-ERROR get last year? I’ll wait………

    That’s why he performed on DWTS even after all the GMA drama! Has Ci-ERROR ever performed on DWTS?? I’ll wait…

    That’s why Chris have EIGHT singles on the charts right now! How many singles does Ciara have on the charts?? I’ll wait…..

    LAMN is top ten on Hot 100 and No. 1 on the r&b charts! When was the last time Ci-ERROR had a top Ten on Hot 100 or No. 1 on the r&b charts?? I’ll wait…..

    Hell, even Keri Hilson has a better career than Cedric! Chris even taught Keri some moves and they damn near re enacted their 2008 BET performance in the ‘One Night Stand’ video! Huge slap in Cedric’s face! LMAOOOOOO!!!

    Face it, Chris beat the brakes off of America’s lil pop princess and STILL has a better career than Ci-ERROR! He was blackballed and shunned in the industry, crucified and torn to shreads by the media, he even messed up again RECENTLY and recieved huge backlash then his album went to No. 1 and he is still shittin on Cedric! LMAOOOO Clearly you are too delusional to accept the TRUTH!

    At this point, she might as well pay someone to whoop her ass so she can get some sympathy and have a better career! Ooop..but wait…she isn’t no where near as big a star as Rihanna so no one will care if she gets her ass beat! LMAOOOO!!

    Chris is on every chart on the billboard, he is the only artist on every chart except for Country and Rock. He is on HOT 100, HOT 200, DANCE, R & B,DIGITAL, RADIO SONGS,POP.
    Like I said earlier I wonder who will be able to compete with him in the R & B field.

  200. paigej April 7, 2011

  201. I Drage For Beyonce April 7, 2011

    @Va Stand Up

    “I believe he is an honest p**** and told the truth about her taking credit for ‘Irreplaceable’!”

    Ne-Yo never said she took credit. He said he wrote all the lyrics, but she got credit for rearranging the song and putting the harmonies together.

  202. paigej April 7, 2011

    @Zania I’ll take pleasure in answering that question; Absolutely Nobody! Not a male R&B artist anyway and that is the truth

  203. GRANAGE April 7, 2011

    @Paige J & Zania.

    Either Bruno Mars or some non-mainstream R&b artist like Dru-Hill. And this year he is competing with females too so he also has to worry about Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, A.Keys, etc. And the Grammys is not about commercial success, it is about quality.

  204. theman April 7, 2011

    I don’t know about Chris Brown. His music is good, but to a certain extent. Chris isn’t really a vocalist, moreso a street dancer. The grammys effed this one all up. We need all of those r&b categories back. That is blocking other great artists from grammys. R&B Contemporary is important as well, because it is modernized r&b.

  205. MISHKA April 7, 2011

    I maintain that CB will be one of the most serious contenders next year.

    If Jive and him manage to release off-the-chain videos three times in a row for “Up to you”, ” All back” and “Next to you” , and if one of them hits #1 on Billboard Hot 100, he’ll be definitely safe. But the videos HAVE to be dope and super tight, like “With you” or “Gimme Dat” were.

    The last thing Chris needs is a video that f*cks up a song like Kanye’s “All of the lights”. This song could have won “Record of the year” but the video completely ruined it. I liked the “Beautiful people” video, but the focus was more on those who are in the song than the song itself. He needs to shoot a better video with a mainstream appeal.

    I don’t stan for mediocrity. “I am…Sasha Fierce” deserved any grammy it won because the hard and good work couldn’t be denied even by the naysayers. As long as Chris Brown means serious business with his art (singles releases, epic videos, constant focus on promotion, EPIC VIDEOS again), he is a mortal lock for 2012.

  206. theman April 7, 2011

    Everybody who doesn’t like this write them, they should not be mixing female/male categories, that is absurd. Write the grammy site y’all…………..

  214. True Blue April 7, 2011

    Removing the male and female categories is just going to ensure gender bias towards the winners. And removing Contemporary R&B, WTF?!?!

    @ VA Stand Up:

    Yeah, her father is on the committee, AND? He is one out of literally hundreds or thousands of people voting, so Bey isn’t really given more of leg against other nominees, any fool knows that.

    Funny that a so-called Beyoncé fan is pulling out tactics more befitting of a hater. But God forbid someone went in on Chris like that (and I don’t give a s*** about him writing his own songs, sure as hell doesn’t make his music better). You’d call them every name in the book.

    Oh, the irony. If this were coming from a Janelle Monáe or an Adele stan, at least they would have a leg to stand on in regards to taste, but a Chris stan questioning Beyoncé’s artistic merit is like a Miley Cyrus stan calling Justify Bieber untalented.

  215. The Truth April 7, 2011

    Breezy will win Billboard awards and get Grammy nominations. His chances of winning we’ll have to see how long his album holds up during the voting. The competition will be tougher then usual.

    I wish they split at least groups and solo in R&B field. They need to add a Live recording/Live Album category and field for those real sangers that can produce good live performances.

    No, just that from an artistic standpoint he’s no better than Bey at all. Hence the Miley-Justin analogy, one isn’t better than the other.

    I really dislike S***’s insane bias, and he puts down my faves all the time, but I can shut him down without dragging Bey. And I would’ve thought @VA Stand Up could do the same too, if she honestly didn’t dislike Bey on some level. Quite shady, what she did.

  222. True Blue April 7, 2011

  223. theman April 7, 2011

  233. QueenBey April 7, 2011

    Beyonce has nothing to worry about! She will always slay. She is the only powerhouse singer with crossover appeal and mainstream popularity. I think the lessors will have to up their album content to compete. Beyonce can record crap music [ if you say so] all she wants. Her vocal prowess will guarantee her grammy nods. As a Beyonce stan and Rihanna fan. I still believe will have not even seen 50% of what Rihanna can do. I think a best vocal performance can happen for her.

    Beyonce has not been R&B since Dangerously In Love everything after that is straight POP ! And yes, I am a fan of her . I ‘m kinda split over the female/male combination but at least true R&B can get some shine like Brandy, Monica (who got robbed last year), Fantasia and the other soul singers. I’m soooooo gettin tired of all this dance s***! Oh, and this is for Usher , please give us a “Confessions” type album and leave that other stuff alone thanks!

    Why are so many ppl saying more Grammys for Beyonce, do ya’ll Bey fans really think she’ll win Best R&B Album when she’s a Pop artist who does Urban songs, but anyway, cutting out Best Male/Female and Group Vocal Performance in the R&B/Country/Pop and Rock fields is the most retarded as move in music history, now the same people will always be nominated. In the R&B field, it’ll always be Beyonce, Alicia Keys, MJB, Usher and whoever they chose. Well I guest Ciara, Keri, Chris and Rihanna will never win Grammys now, because CiCi, Keri and CB are Contemporary R&B and Rihanna will never get a Best Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album nomination

    All this does is make it harder for true artists to get recognition and just make way for the popular acts to get first dibs. I don’t see why they would combine both male and female talent. Indy talent is gonna be left out for sure now, I’m telling you. But whatever, it is what it is. They only present 15-20 awards on tv anyway, and people have been declining this show for a while. This definitely won’t boost their ratings. I tell you, if it wasn’t for their performances, this show would be nothing, cause everybody knows a Grammy ain’t what it used to be.
