A song doesn’t even have to be played on radio these days to see #1 on billboard, all you have to do is sell a lot on itunes. It really does take the prestige away from having a number 1. Especially if an artist is only number 1 for a week.

It’s funny how everyone is obsessing over singles sales and following where these singles are placing on the billboard Hot100 (when those same artist can’t sale albums to save their lives). If I was in their shoes, I’d wonder if that meant people don’t care for the collection of songs that I’m presenting to the public. It’s as if it says, I’m only going to spend money on the 3 singles that’s remixed and released again with featured artist to promote as an “event” rather than invest in the other 12 songs you recorded. I’m sure in the 80’s and 90’s an artist with 3 – 5 #1’s would sell about 10 million( so, you should atleast sell 2million today).

Those that don’t think itunes matter, must have been living under a rock for the past few years. The music industry is changing. Artists sell more singles than they do albums because NOW people don’t have to buy the whole album if they don’t want to. They can just buy the single if they like. Hell, in the United States alone, Beyonce has sold more singles than she did albums. And of all the 16 grammys she won, only 3 of them were for an entire album, the rest of them were for singles. So yes, people will buy a single before they buy an album and singles do count. And to the one that said people are too lazy to walk to the record stores, I don’t know where you live, but in a lot of states, records stores are becoming obsolete because people can purchase music online. Now for those that say itunes don’t matter, feel free to think that way. But the only reason people keep bringing up itunes is because the stans started it. I don’t know how many blogs I was on, in topics that had nothing to do with her seeing “Beyonce’s new single out now, buy it, let’s make her number one”. And true Beyonce may not have entered at number one. But usually her songs would go up the charts now go up and come back down. I’m not ruling her out. I think she can turn it around, maybe with another single or with the video out, but don’t act like itunes and singles sales don’t matter. Radio play garners you a Billboard award, but sales garners you an American Music Award. Record of the year and Song of the Year, awards that she’s won are based off of one song, not a full album.

If the music is great and properly promoted people will buy it. Sales are down, but the cd is still a main factor. It’s actually the best source for a whole album. Beyonce sales albums. Her singles usually grow into hits, but her fans put her in this position, so you gave people the platform to throw back at you 10x the speed you started with.
Itunes is mainly big in the singles dept, but as far as album sales the physical format still is the biggest factor, and is the best factor to me, not everybody wants a download.

You know, what baffles me – how all the stans (Rihanna’s, Britney’s, Lady Gaga’s, Katy Perry’s, Janet’s, Jlo’s Mariah’s, Whitney’s, MJ’s and Bey’s) all at one time or another criticize other artist. They also praise their own to no end, but evryone always try to label the Beyonce stans. I really think this has a lot to do with Bey’s consistent success. Her stans being proud of her accomplishments and confidently believing in her abilities seems to irk the nay-sayers and haters. This strikes me as bunch of insecure people that feel threatened about their own artist having some competition. Bey has been on hiatus for 2 years – we were anticipating her arrival, there wasn’t anything to brag about. So, far we’ve seen Gaga fans gloating about her music from Fame monster wrapping up and declaring that all her latest singles are epic. Rihanna has not taken a break and we constantly see her stans talking about her dominating the singles chart. With Britney’s return we see her stans bringing up her total sales from the last decade and #1 albums. Every group has something, but Bey stans are always delusional and we are “too much” – honestly, we get labels I don’t understand, when many of us appreciate tons of others artist. Check the old post (many of us always comment positively on Janet, Mariah, Whitney, Brandy, Ciara and more). I’m realizing we have to do what our fav does – and that’s always be twice as humble as others for it to count! Yes, some of us do come down on others (I’m not blind to that), but we never get credit for many of us giving credit where it’s due. Bey gets unfairly labelled and so do her stans. When there are so many stans that are downright nasty! We can’t even celebrate Bey in peace without people barging in to tell us how much they hate her. seriously, what is that about?
