Today marks the global release of Lady GaGa‘s third studio album ‘Born This Way’.
The last 6 months have seen the Pop eccentric mount an aggressive promotional campaign for the set, which is preceded by chart smashes, ‘Judas’, ‘The Edge of Glory’, and the LP’s title track – which topped the Billboard Hot 100 back in February. And with her label Interscope having shipped 2 million copies of the record to retailers (first week), the 25 year old looks to be onto a winner.

I’m a tad concerned after reading the games that her management and BEST BUY are trying to play on music listeners. Now let me get this right, if you buy one of their cellphones the CD is pre-loaded (counts as 1 CD sell) and they also give you a hard copy of the CD (counts as a 2nd CD sell). Now when she “outsells” ADELEs 1st wek figures, using these tricks I wonder what the media will say?….OH WAIT they like her so probably NOTHING!!!
I like Gaga but I have not heard anything thus far that would make me purchase BTW! From what I heard of the reviews (subjective of course) the CD is a vast departure from her previous successful CDs. With that said, she will probably do well. Well with the BEST BUY scheme I know she will! 🙂

As for sales, I think Gaga’s team want to beat Taylor’s number but I honestly think they’re main goal is to beat Britney’s. With all the hype, promotion, the outlets that will have the album, this album should beat Taylor’s and Britney’s record.

Anyways, I will buy the album. Something I would’ve never imagined myself saying a month ago, but I’m surprised at how good this album is. Now it’s not perfect or mind-blowingly epic, but it’s a solid pop record, and being that it’s only her second album, I’ll be patient enough to expect more progression on future albums.

It is still 15.99 for the deluxe and 11.99 for the standard on itunes. She topped 22 itunes stores in less than 90 minutes. How is that a flop? no to mention that it was already #2 on Amazons list based on pre sales alone. The pre-sale prices weren’t 99 cents either. So how has she flopped?

Its funny how many people thought she actually meant the record would be the album of the decade. You can’t just take whjat she says for face value. But I can honestly say that it is a very solid pop album. It also has techno, bubble goth, rock and rnb flavors to it. I enjoyed very much.

“Born This Way” would have been a lot more successful if Lady Gaga hadn’t lifted bits and pieces from other popular artists as if she’s the only one who has an iTunes library bigger than a few gigabytes with music from before 2000. It’s as if she set her iPod to shuffle and decided, “Hmmm… what ‘homage’ will I throwback to in my next song?”
Born This Way = straight up rip-off of Express Yourself.
Fashion Of His Love = straight up rip-off of I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney.
Electric Chapel = The hook from The Cardigans’ “My Favourite Game” + Desireless “Voyage Voyage” + Kylie circa Fever era production.
You And I = The beat from Shania Twain’s “Honey I’m Home” slowed down and the same backup singer and production from the seminal album, “Come On Over.” Actually this song, stripped of its sheen, could have easily been a Shania Twain single.

Scheiße – a great Fame Monster like track
Hair – a beautiful upbeat song about expressing yourself
Bloody Mary – a dark punk rockish sort of track, another fave
You & I – with the added instrumentals sounds pretty country-like and enhances the acapella version we’ve been hearing for a year now

It’s.really.good. It’s an album that you really have to sit with & I can appreciate that.
Favorites: Marry The Night, Government Hooker, Judas, Scheiße, Bloody Mary (Wow- great song!) Heavy Metal Lover (brilliant), Electric Chapel, and Black Jesus-Amen Fashion.
You & I is amazing live. So is Edge of Glory.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to listen to it, but I am planning on buying it. I think the album is different from the preceding one, and that artists like Gaga are needed in music, because they stand out from the others among various other reasons.

Billboard should not count heavily discounted digital sales (.99$) in its total for the album. This should be considered as a special issue/promotion item. This is disgraceful and reminiscent of Mariah Carey-like antics in the 90s to get her singles to #1. Very disappointing.

I’m not a fan/stan of Lady GaGa but with the hype over this album, I decide I’d give it a try. The singles she has released thus far, “Born This Way”, “Judas”, and “The Edge of Glory” were not my cup of tea because I like my tea hot and not luke warm. With that in mind I downloaded the album, and gave it a try. This album is actually pretty good, not the best album I’ve ever heard but for what she was coming from, it’s pretty good. There a lot of album fillers, pretty much the first 5 songs are fillers but the album picks up after track 5, and the show begins. My favs off the album is, “You & I”, “Hair”, and “Fashion of His Love”.
Her monsters will eat this up, she’ll gain a few more followers, and will have one of the biggest albums out this year. As for die hard music lovers, who actually enjoy an album that takes you on a journey-you’ll hate this from start to finish. Like Lady GaGa herself, don’t take the album very seriously. It’s fun but after a few plays as a hold becomes boring and dated.
This is just my review (so no need for hating), I clearly stated before, I’m not a stan/fan but just a music lover in general. That is all grapejuicers

I bought my copy at Best Buy for $7.99. Records tend to grow on me, the best tracks are “Hair,” “Edge of Glory,” “Scheb,” and “Judas.” Time will tell how well it will hold up but heart and fire sure drip from the grooves. The thing that stands out is how the arrangements are shockingly closer to rock than straight pop-this is not by any means a predictable record. Which is good, if you want a career based on artistry and longevity, you have to switch your sound up. I just didn’t expect her to do it so soon. She is flat-out the most brilliant pop star to emerge since Madonna, there’s just no doubt about it. I want to see this record do mind-boggling numbers. I am so sick of endless number one singles/CDs from 1/2 asleep female celebrity type ‘musicians’ who all have a deal with Clear Channel Radio and follow the same dull, safe blueprint-Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Britney, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Pink, etc, etc. Some of the aforementioned are better than others (I guess of this group I’d pick Beyonce and Pink as the 2 best) but they more or less have no particular style or point of view and just all bore me to tears. Gaga pumps some much needed life into the pop music format and has made the radio waves much more invigorating.
