In its first week of release, the LP which features the singles ‘The Edge Of Glory‘ and ‘Hair‘ shifted a whopping 1.1 million copies in the US alone.
GaGaDaily and HitsDailyDouble both report that the record is the fastest selling album of the year to date and is also the ninth fastest selling album in the country ever.
Released just days ago, ‘Born’ is the 25 year old’s third album and is on course to trump ‘The Fame Monster‘ to become her highest selling project yet even though LP sales in the music industry remain at an all time low.
Who would have thought that the brunette working the underground circuit just four years ago would become the undisputed Chart Queen of this generation?

And @Kyle you can’t compare album sales from over 10 years ago to album sales now. The album market has gone done a good 60 percent since then and illegal downloading is at an all time high. Either way 1.1 million US people wanted the album and purchased it no matter what the cost. Most of them would have gladly paid full price but they had a chance to save money. I would have too but I bought mine at full price before I heard about Amazon. Its funny you have to look that far back to find a record Gaga hasn’t broken.

I don’t understand why Amazon would sell her album for .99 cents except that since it was digital it does not cost them any extra distribution fees, just adding a couple extra servers to handle the download capacity. That is a major accomplishment, but it would be interesting to see sales after the first week. I don’t think it is fair to compare Beyonce’s sales to hers because Beyonce’s album will not be shipped until the week of June 28th. Comparing this album to Beyonce’s previous albums is also pointless because Beyonce has always sold more than 2 million copies of each album. The Britny fans are also correct in saying that Britney still holds a record over Lady Gaga for biggest opening numbers, and that was with Britney’s CD being sold at full retail price.

GaGa would have only sold 500K without the 99 cent deal. That’s truly underwhelming, considering all the hype surrounding the album.
If you add about 200K of those people who actually wanted to album and didn’t only buy it to get 20GB of free storage on amazon her total sales amount to about 700K.
Basically, there is an overrated mess in every sense of the word.
Because of the Cloud Nine service with Amazon, she sold another 400K, so even without it, she still would’ve sold 700K, which is still more than most artists and is a number most artists only dream of selling in the first week, especially in 2011. Born This Way is still going to be 2011’s best selling album with WW sales of over 10 million, and just F.Y.I., The Fame Monster is not Gaga’s best selling LP, because it’s not an LP, it’s an EP and it has sold 6 million WW, The Fame has sold 12.5 million WW and yes, Gaga is this generation’s Chart Queen, but anywho, just keep on grinding Gaga, you just got done headlining the 13th highest tour of all time, you just made $90 million last year and was voted the most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes Magazine.

I’m honestly not suprised. So congrats to Lady Gimmick. As many stunts as she has pulled and as much attention as she gets this numbers aren’t surprising in the least bit. She has a major following of a bunch of weird ass people just like her, will buy anything she puts out. Can’t be mad when someone’s fans support them.
I still think she is overrated & overhyped and she gets on my last f****** nerves, but congrats non the same. She is talented so she deserves her success, even though she does too much for my taste and her music does nothing for me.

In terms of the former, of course “no one” is talking about the music–the stans are more interested in numbers, chart positions, how she “slayed Beyonce, Rihanna, et al…,” or how “your fav could never.”
But in terms of the music, I really like the album. “Marry the Night,” “Government Hooker,” “Judas,” “Schiebe,” “Bloody Mary,” “Black Jesus-Amen Fashion,” “Bad Kids,” “Heavy Metal Lover,” and “Electric Chapel” are the songs I like on the album.

I was DEFIANTLY not calling Nsync “quality” by any means. IMO they were good but they never released “quality” music they did release some good songs. Justin released some quality jc kinda did but Nsync as a whole didn’t.

Excellent, she worked her a** off, even if the album didn’t sale for 99 cents, she would have moved around 800k-900k, which is still hella great. What i find funny is people complain about artist promotion so much now, but when you finally get someone that has been spot on with it, and the best at it as of now people stay complain, don’t complain look at the way her label promoted her album as a guide. She has shown alot more artistic growth as well. Her sales still would have been huge irregardless of what.

BTW is not in the same league as Speak Now or The Carter 3. Loss leading always leads to increased sales, especially when an entire album costs less than the price of a single.
However, congrats to Gaga for her #1 album and for legitimately crossing the 500K debut threshold! That’s awesome in this market climate!

Can u understand why these people are so pressed? I mean, they are Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy… stans. Do they not know yet that Gaga is way more talented than all those girls? I mean, none of them can compare to the creativity and musical skills of MJ, Mariah, Janet, etc, sorry Beyonce doesn´t count. she is so inferior musical wise. The only huge superstar with great musical skills that performs and promotes and makes great music like those I mentioned did back in the day is Gaga. I used to say Bad kids and Hair were the worst on the album, but now I seriously even love those 2 songs. One can´t get tired of listening
why are people so damn salty towards Beyonce , o.k Gaga sold over a million congrats to her , but do you all really think Beyonce album will flop ?? no i don’t think so , she wont sell a million but i think she will sell between 300-500 k in its first week , that is not bad at all . Gaga has damn good people behind her and that is whats up, but this album was not her best at all , Fame Monster was her best to me , born this way seems overrated and I’m not trying to take anything away from her because she is talented , i just can’t get with these songs off that album.
Go Gaga! The Amazon deal wasn’t Gaga’s doing but like her manager said its good that people bought it legally even if it was 99 cents for one day. Without amazon she still would’ve had around 800k. I read on billboard that sales have gone down 65% since britneys oops because of the economy and illegal downloading so this is really impressive. We all know her shows sell out too so gaga has secured longevity. Its well deserved. I loved the album. Bloody mary, Marry the night, and Highway unicorn are my faves but its a really great party album or dance around in my room album just like fame monster was. She didnt dissapoint me other than the title song “born this way”. Ironic how the only song I hate is the one she named the album after. Such a bad single choice. The rest are great.

Now i applaud Gaga for her success abd her pack of little monsters running around… But the quality that was in Gagas very first CD is missing in her current work sorry but true… A major portion of Gagas success comes from peoples fascination with her weird antics and her “what is she gonna do next” behavioral patterns… People are intrested by Gagas appearance and the fact that she will do just about anything for attention… I mean i applaud anyone selling a millions albums in the first week but i cant give you as much credit as others… when you CD cost the same as a 20oz bottle of Sprite i really cant say too much… $0.99 is ridicualous and with that being said if the CD was only $0.99 she should have sold more… Lil wayne sold a million in his first week of the Carter 3 and those were $9.99 a pop… Jus sayin… *drinks sprite… ahhh refreshing… *
