Quote Of The Day: Beyonce – ‘My Last 2 Albums Weren’t Classics’

Published: Saturday 23rd Jul 2011 by David

There is no doubt that this era of Beyonce‘s career will certainly go down in history of being one of her most open and candid.

For after publicy addressing issues that she may not have even acknowledged in previous years, Mrs. Carter has gone onto make a statement that will be sure to strike up lengthy debate everywhere.

Find out what she said below…

Whilst some of the KillerB’s in her Beyhive may disagree with her claim that her previous records were not classics, her more ‘intellectual’ supporters will find some solace in the statement.

Unlike any other Beyonce barring ‘Dangerously In Love‘, the critical focus has remained solely on the conceptual and creative content that has made ‘4’ the ‘Cadillac Records‘ to ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce‘s’ ‘Obsessed’.

For ‘Cadillac Records’ is the only movie which saw the Golden Globe nominee  achieve mass critical acclaim for her raw skill and undeniable talent and though her previous albums have all possessed just as much skill and talent, ‘4’ is the only LP that places these gifts  on centre stage.

Set to  hit the 1 million sold worldwide mark in coming days, it would seem that the ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ singer has finally created the album all signed recording acts dream of making.

One that wins them both critical acclaim and the dizzy heights of chart success.

  2. BLACK July 23, 2011

    WHAAT???? she didnt say that…smh TGJ

  3. JohnVidal July 23, 2011

    We know it girl, we know it! LOL

  4. Jess July 23, 2011

    emained solely on the conceptual and creative content that has made ‘4′ the ‘Cadillac Records‘ to ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’s’ ‘Obsessed’.

    Had to read this a few times for it to make sense / sink in. Ha

  5. London July 23, 2011

    But what tgj failed to mention was that 4 has failed to achieve any critical sucess from the music journalists in places that she mention e.g rolling stone.
    Beyonce is the best performer of our generation but musically lauren hill or an adele she ain’t.
    She herself seems to lacks any orginal creativity to make a critically aclaimef album.

  6. readingcomprehensioniskey July 23, 2011

    Maybe if some of you Beyonce stans had concentrated in school you would know how read between the lines, she said ‘ithink my first album was a classic’, then went onto describe ‘4’ as being classic, there are two albums between DIL and 4, therefore she is saying that these two albums werent classics.

  7. jamesa July 23, 2011

    @london omg shut up! most of the reviews I read were great reviews and rolling stone who gives to shits about them they put snookie on the cover, I wouldn’t take them serious if my life depended on it! Soo rolling stone is the only credible source?? Smh. Dang just be happy for the woman, there is always that one person that’s always throwing f****** shade. Smh. but uh yea sam she didn’t say that. Lol. My top beyonces albums are: 4, dangerously in love, and bday. I didn’t really rock I am like that. But the one million mark and her album hasn’t even been out in a month yet, ummm doesn’t sound like a flop to me.

  8. JohnVidal July 23, 2011

    @readingcomprehensioniskey
    So funny LOL

  9. kimberly July 23, 2011

    I suggest you read what she said before and after that statement and then comment. This is how people take things wrongly and make judgments. read on her focus and why she said that.

  10. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 23, 2011

    Does she think that DIL and 4 are classics???Whatever, girl
    And @TGJ “There is no doubt that this era of Beyonce’s career will certainly go down in HISTORY of being one of her most open and candid.”. yeah right.Kids will go to school and the teacher will write Beyonce; The ‘4’ era on the blackboard and read quotes from her interviews.
    STOP STANNING cause you’re not even doing it right

  15. MaZ July 23, 2011

    TGJ Staff = Fools

    She didn’t say : “My last two albums weren’t classics”. Never ever. This is disinformation or you should learn how to quote correctly!

    We should focus more on definition of word classic. What is a classic album or song? Classic = timeless? successful? Longevity? Critical acclaim?
    Beyoncé probably have her own vision of what is a classic album. I think that on “B’day” and “Iam … Sasha Fierce” she was more focus on singles. But those two albums will last. There’s classic anthems on both albums. Timeless songs on “Iam…”

  16. pop royalty (RUDE BOY) July 23, 2011

    TGJ staff : YOU ARE ASS HOLES !!

  17. RihannaNAVY July 23, 2011

    Does it get any more delusional than this?
    And then Betgives wonder why Bey s getting so much crap.
    It s because of incredibly dishonnest and biased posts like this one…

  22. RHI RHI IS QUEEN July 23, 2011

    ITS FUNNY HOW THE ONLY ALBUM SHE CONSIDERS A CLASSIC IS THE ONE THAT SHE HAD TO USE OTHER ARTIST FEATURES TO PUSH.. JAY-Z WAS USED TWICE, SEAN PAUL, BIG BOI, MISSY, LUTHER V, USHER FOR THE NAUGHTY GIRL VIDEO, SHE TOOK “DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE” FROM THE DC3 ALBUM, AND ETC EYT ECT… SHE DIDNT CARRY THAT ALBUM ON HER OWN, THATS WHY ITS THE ONLY ONE THAT IS LISTENABLE FROM BEGINING TO END. BDAY WAS JUST SOME QUICK TRASH SHE THREW TOGETHER IN 2 WEEKS FOR THE QUEENS, SASHA WAS BEYAWNCE’S “ALTER EGO”….UMMMMM NO COMMENT.. AND “4LOP” IS JUST A DISASTER OF EPIC PROPORTIONS SMH

  23. GangsterA July 23, 2011

    @ASAP

    “Dangerously in Love” is a classic….One of the best R&b albums of the 2000’s………

    DIL shits on all her albums combined.

  28. Kellymotivation July 23, 2011

    She didn’t say it literally but that was exactly what she meant……She also mentioned not paying close attention to the musical growth on those albums…AND I AGREE WITH HER

    I think after DIL, 4 is my second favorite album of hers………

    TGJ is 100% right……….

  29. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    SHE IS CONFUSED,SHE REALLY IS

    BDAY SHITS ON 4 PRODUCTION WISE.HER BEST PRODUCED ALBUM AND HER VOCAL ON GREEN LIGHT,AMOR GITANO,LISTEN,RESENTMENT,LOST YOUR MIND ARE WHAT SEPERATE HER THE OTHER GIRLS.
    BDA IS BEYONCE SOUND EVERYBODY WAS LOOKIN FOR:COUNTDOWN,SL ETC..

    IASF HAS SOME THE BEST BALLADS OF HER CAREER:SATELLITES,DISSAPEAR,…and SWEET DREAMS ETC ARE ALL REALLY GOOD POP SONGS.

    SHE IS TRIPPIN
    SHE BETTER CLEAR UP ON THIS STATEMENT COZ MANY BEYHIVE MEMBERS WILL BE FRUSTRATED 🙂 LMAOOO

    Ranking of Bey’s albums:

    1. DIL

    2. IASF (This album has some great ballads)

    3. 4 {some great songs like “Party” and a few others….but it doesn’t deserve any Grammy……..Jill Scott’s “The Light of the sun” shits on “4”.

    4. B’DAY (This album is just too pathetic for me) and the cheap videos from the album don’t help…lots of screaming and mediocre uptempo songs.

  31. Lost1Wons July 23, 2011

    Umm, @London, I feel you, but I cant totally agree, cus these stans cant take it, I was booted off BWBoard.net. Anyway, I like the 4 album, but the reporter went to far saying Grammy Album of the Year. As much as I am a fan, I still dont feel Beyonce is taking me there lyrically, all I can think of when I listen to her song is a Man wrote this -the Dream? Nope! Hell no, Beyonce cant win that award until she really gets personal, & she’s far from it, as candid as she is this era, her character isn’t deep enough, she is so bubbly & happy w/o much too say, she can’t even write her songs 100 %. AND even for her being in a happy place in life. I will *die if “4” gets a nomination for Album of the Year, I think alot of people minus her stans will uproar over that. I really believe it, no shade! Grammy has awarded her fairly thus far, she has the most Grammy’s, but if they reward her the biggest one, not right! Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse fair winners….as for Beyonce, she can keep “Videos of the Year/ Generation/last 100 years” but cant get Album of the Year

  33. Kellymotivation July 23, 2011

    @KAT DELUNA FAN

    More like you don’t know what you are talking about

    Musical growth is not all about vocals but also displaying meaningful lyrics and musical poetry……….I suggest you go listen to “DIL” to listen to her powerful vocals mixed with great R&B ballads and beautiful lyrics.

    Anyone with common sense or some maturity will agree with what Beyonce said……..

    B’day was not that good…and shouting does not equate to displaying vocals……….

  34. nice_gurl July 23, 2011

    Well, she’s basically saying those are her two fave albums of hers. She isn’t comparing to other artist’s albums. I agree with her though. DIL and 4 both have great vocals and more soul than the other albums, though I Am had some great ballads and vocals. I guess they are her faves. They’re my faves too.

  35. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    DIL IS NOT A BAD ALBUM BUT BESIDE’THE CLOSER I GOT TO YOU’ and ‘DIL’ the other BALLADS WERE BASICS 22 YEARS OLD LOVE HEARTBREAKER SONGS A LA 21 BY ADELE.

  42. Those That Cannot Do, Stan July 23, 2011

    Yeah…how about we wait 10 years and let THE PUBLIC decide what a classic album is Beyonce.

    Don’t get it twisted Beyonce, you make good music sometimes but looking at your discography there are very few if any songs I can picture playing on the radio in 2021. You’re a current singer, you make dance music, and sometimes your forray into soulful ballads is hit and miss…shrugs.

    And yes lyrically she’s still not there for me, she doesn’t really challenge herself. While some songs are different musically, lyrically they’re all the same “that negro did me wrong, but thats okay because I’m a strong independant woman and I’m too good for him” – Me, Myself, and I – Irreplaceable – Best Thing I Never Had – same same same.

    But no shade to her, she doesn’t pretend to be some otherworldly song diety and she’s doing her thing having fun…shrugs.

  43. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    Someone think she is mentally sane when she is the leo Dicaprio of Shutter Island
    Poor thing 🙁 🙁

  44. Royalkev July 23, 2011

    I don’t think Beyonce was making that kind of statement. I believe she feels that “4” and “DIL” have a similar approach in her singing the music or a similar feel to them. To me the sound of those 2 albums is much more traditional in comparison to the more experimental B’day(although for the most part all of them are very contemporary). She was just lumping them together because of what they share in common. B’day is certainly a classic album. I think the “Beyonce sound” was discovered with that album. I am… is the only album that felt as if it was actually driven by making hits for it’s success. The other 3 are classics. My favs(in order) are “4”, “B’day”, I am… and DIL. Beyonce’s “4”, “B’day” and “DIL” will be remembered.

  45. Taylor July 23, 2011

    I’ve been finding the writing style on this website nauseating lately. We get it. You love Beyonce. Beyonce could sing the phone book, and you’d be like “Beyonce is always known for blazing trails. No doubt other singers are going to follow suit.” Plus, you can’t even write a post about Rihanna without taking a shot at her…and not even GOOD shots.

    I might have to get my music news elsewhere.

  46. YeaBey July 23, 2011

    Although that is not how she said it I totally agree…. Anyway to all Rihanna stans who felt some sort of way when she said some people change their hair and image with every new album… It wasn’t directed to Rihanna… If you think it is then it is obvious that her fans are insecure …. Nicki Minaj , lady gaga, Chris brown, lil mama, Other people I don’t care about all change their image… I think it’s true because some of these celebrities are know for how they look rather than how they sing! Tell me I’m wrong! You know it’s true! As for this story t word posted it yesterday and I predicted Sam to post this in the Kelly article before I saw this…

  47. nice_gurl July 23, 2011

    See TGJ. This is what happens when people like @TAYLOR get sick of you always hyping up an artist and putting the other down all the time. You are going to lose people visiting the blog.

    @KAT DELUNA FAN
    ALOt of BEYONCE fans might not agree with what shE said but I do… BDAY AND IA..SF were a collection of singles… Notice how almost every song were singles on the albums? She just wanted hits at that time and she got them so now she has earned the right to make an album that pleases herself as well as show growth and maturity … I think she did a GREAT job

  52. bad quality album July 23, 2011

    Bad album and it would be unfair if she even gets 1 nomination for the Grammys 2012.
    Rihanna is having MASSIVE success around the world with her music and just has one Grammy, that is unfair and not correct.

Lauryn Hill Miseducation classic……… Alicia Keys Songs in A Minor classic…….. Monica The Boy is Mine classic……… Mary J Blige Whats the 411 classic and the QUEEN OF THEM ALL JANET “MS. JACKSON IF YOUR NASTY” JANET…….. when these artist today reach that magnitude then and only than will I say that they have “A” CLASSIC ALBUM and not just sing along hits thats just good for now and not for the future. Now I like them all for the talent that they display and for keeping me entertain at their concert shows but that is it they are not ICONS sorry stans (Team Rhianna Team B Team Ciara and Team Keri)

    @BEYONCE HATERS
    Dont be mad at beyonce because all the people you named are from last decade.Beyonce has pretty much no competition this era.Her competition having popular success music is basic (Rihanna,perry,gaga,kesha,..) or her competition having critical acclaim is irrelevant (Jill scott,Amerie,Monica,Alicia a lil bit now,etc)
    Dont be mad if she the only one having both

  63. Royalkev July 23, 2011

    She wanted hit maybe but the songs aint that bad especially considered what is out right now (LMFAO,The Lazy song,E.T. etc..)

    Only beyonce can diss a 5 time grammy winning album like IASF and people be happy about it.I dont think Lady antebellum could do such a stupid thing.
    I mean this era success is not here yet so praising ‘4’ is prematured.’4′ is doing great but she still can be snubbed by the grammy commitee like Destiny Fulfilled and Bday were.She better watch out or shut the f*** up

  67. Royalkev July 23, 2011

    Aaaaw! We need to write a song together called ‘Beyonce doesn’t need this drama’ (and make it a “classic” ballad). LOL. What’s your writing style like (which famous songwriter or singer’s style if you had to choose)?

    http://www.thepagewithroyalkev.b*******.com

  68. yeabey July 23, 2011

    @ROYALKEV
    LOL!!
    Brian Michael C** or Ester Dean (not her usual pop songs, she has some good songs like Kelly Rowland’s rose colored glasses and Mary J Blige’s stronger)

  69. yeabey July 23, 2011

    @KAT DELUNA FAN
    I agree that its too early to call “4” a classic….But i know for sure that it can spawn plenty of hit singles….she is just saving the best for last.

    But if you do think about it 4 stands out from the rest in terms of lyrical content and growth and it does have that old school classic sound on some of the songs so I think that is why she said that..

  70. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @ROYALKEV
    LMAO @beyonce song title

    I go hard for BDAY.IASF has many weak songs but not Bday.I mean before she rerelease and ruin it 🙁 🙁
    why she did that?

  71. Tyler* July 23, 2011

    I AM…SASHA FIERCE, was the best era, the best album. Everything about it was new and refreshing!

  72. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @YEABET
    Plenty? The last time beyonce had plenty of hits off an album was during DIL era.She always got 1 hit single off the entire album.I hope things will get better for ‘4’ but expect for the album chart run,nothing is promising singles wise.

    I think ‘4’ is the best of the best from the other 3 albums:
    Good production a la ‘Bday’
    good lyrics a la’ I am ..,DIL’
    Good ballads a la ‘I am,DIL’
    Experimentation sound a la Bday
    & excellent vocals technique and new signature notes/vocals

    She did her thing on ‘4’. 🙂

    Sweetie @Kat Deluna first of all i don’t hate there is no reason for me to hate like I Said I like them all and they all are talented. But CLASSIC albums means TIMELESS going to play it years to come. You know sitting in your rocking chair telling your grand kids……… “Well back in my day women like B, C, Ri, and G now them ladies had some classic albums that was real music.” Now are you really going to be telling them that??? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH LMAO!!! You going to say that they were talented singers and performers who gave great shows that made you dance and kick a nicca to the side when he wasn’t acting right. B is right her albums are not classic DIL is about as close to classic she is going to get and Im jus saying that bc I havent heard 4 yet to voice my OPINION

  74. Malibu Barbie July 23, 2011

    Beyonce is a perfectionist, she always says stuff like this about herself and in a way, i love it, its the reason shes the legend she is today.. she doesnt just “settle”
    All her albums are classics in each way…
    and to the ppl who say her s*** is not classic and shes just current, must be a nicki minaj fan or something…
    —Deja vu, Irreplaceable,Single Ladies,Diva,End Of Time,If i were a boy,Upgrade U , Beautiful Liar , Crazy In Love , Green Light,Freakum Dress ,Why Dont U Love Me , I Miss You , Scared Of Lonely, Sweet Dreams—- <<< look at me.. im just spilling this post with classics. trust me in 20 years ull have ppl remixing her s***, covering her s***, sampling her s***.. BEYONCE is too good! and it shows she takes her work seriously to make such a bold comment like that

    @ Kat Deluna Fan – Bey has been trying to prove to people for so long that she’s humble and doesn’t need to come down off a high horse. She’s not going to please everyone. She can cure cancer, find a way to obtain world peace and end starvation and the hate will still not end. I think she did approach “4” in a different way, she intentionally went after a more classic (traditional/ timeless) sound in crafting the songs and it’s structure. Still B’day was it’s own kind of rare gem and I don’t think it’s any less special now because of the new mature space that Bey’s in now that’s showing on 4 . People sometimes feel that their new work is their best, because of their desire to top it in one way or another, but I think it was said just to show people that’s she’s human and to show everyone how serious her approach was in making music for “4”.

    @KAT DELUNA FAN
    I get what you are saying but end of time could be her next No 1 and countdown and schoolin life could make top 10! I understand your opinion though!

    @MALIBU BARBIE
    LOL you make valid points

    @ROYAL KEV
    Thanks

  77. YOOSONDALOOSE July 23, 2011

    Aww Bey B’Day was an absolute classic, an amazing album!
    I love ‘4’ though, so much better, much more of an album album.

    Go Bey!

  78. OKAYWHATSUP……SHUTUP July 23, 2011

    after reading everyone comments some of you have proven our point hit songs not classic album……… you would have to take all her hits and then put them on record and title it “5” and there’s your classic album 🙂

  79. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @OKAYWHATSUP
    Ok,I respect and agree with your vision but @MALIBU BARBIE almost said it all for me.
    dead at the Nicki Minaj Fan lmaoo I love U for that.

    I listen to “My neck my back”,”Who let the dog out” or “spice up your life” sometimes in my life.Those are real old songs but did it make them classics ? NO.
    Beyonce was at the french Xfactor the finale day and one of the contestant performed CIL. like it came out yestersay.If this is not a classic song,I dont know what it is.

    A song can be unknow or not performed or remembered by people years from now but it doesnt make the song less timeless IMO.

  80. JR July 23, 2011

    You know what I have to give her mad respect for this. This was my argument to a few of my friends when 4 came out. I said finally an album that does not seem so commercial. I thank God that Beyonce realizes that she only has two great albums. But when I think of classics I think of songs we can look back and say yes this song made an impact on music history.

    For instance, Celeine Dion “My Heart Will Go On” Mariah Carey “One Sweet Day” Whitney Houston “I Will Always Love You” . Now when I try to think of a Beyonce song that made an impact like those songs that stay in the hearts of people…….my mind goes blank. Some say Irreplaceable but if you pin that up against those types of songs they don’t compare! She a good entertainer but nothing about her music is classical or timeless!

  81. YeaBey July 23, 2011

    @ROYAL KEV
    I was just about to say the same thing!

  82. LACEFRONCE. 4CLOSURE WAS BORN TO FLOP. July 23, 2011

    Finally, you’re being honest BLEACHonce. Your entire catalogue is trash & none of your albums are classics. We won’t remember this ass-shaking nonsense years from now.

    But wasn’t it THIEFonce the other day who said she was born with some natural born talent that separates her from others? LMAOOOOOOOOOOO.I’ve never known any legend..any of the greats to say “I have a natural born talent”..it’s just known. it’s a given. THIEFonce tries entirely too hard!

    Which is why 4closure is a flop flop flop. 🙂

  83. Just Saying July 23, 2011

    Beyonce wants so desperately to separate herself from the competition. So, she decides to record a CD full of ballads. What she has failed to realize is that she has built her image on gyrating, cooching popping and s**. She is a visual artist and a great performer. That is what people expect from her, they don’t want her to stand there and sing a bunch of ballads. She has an okay voice, but she is no Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion who were the 80’s and 90’s ballad queens. None of her projects are like the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I think that is what she is looking for. The problem I have with Beyonce is that she comes off as a little arrogant and always toots her horn a little too much. She really thinks she is the best thing to happen to the music business since sliced bread. Michael Jackson she will never be.

  84. Parris Black July 23, 2011

    Dangerously In Love is an R&B classic. The ONLY album I have EVER purchased by the broad.

  85. Royalkev July 23, 2011

    @ YeaBey, I don’t know why people seem to “forget” everything when it comes to Bey. It’s funny how people get credit for so little, but Bey dominates for 15 years and some people are left scratching their heads trying to figure out what she deserves credit for. I don’t get it!

    Random: It’s funny when on occassion Bey wears something similar to other artist and gets called a copycat, but other people recycle left and right and their “channeling” the greats!
    There about 3 artist getting away with this murder right now! I’m done!

  88. Beyonce and Gaga run the world July 23, 2011

    Guys I totally got her point

    I mean

    Dangerously In Love was made to be known as a solo artist, she put a lot of work on it

    B’day was made to leave “Deena” the character she played in the movie “Dreamgirls” behind, she made that album in 2 weeks

    I am… Sasha Fierce Is too comercial, She just wanted to make clear What are the differences between Sasha and Beyoncé

    4, Now this album she made it, because she wanted to do it, I mean there’s nothing more on it than work and incredible sounds, she took almost a year making it… So yeah This album is a classic.

  89. musiclovwe July 23, 2011

    Like my momma always said , ” a hurt dog will holler”, and you rihanna stans hollering away cuz rihanna is nobody’s vocalist nor musician and yall know that, Yall need to stop lying to her ass and tell her to get some artist development, CUZ ROCKIN A NAPPY RED WIG FOR A YEAR DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN ARTIST OR MUSICIAN, IT MAKES YOU LOOK SILLY AND VERY GIMMICKY

  90. Robier July 23, 2011

    LOL U GOT THE SENTIMENT BUT NOT THE QOTE RIGHT LOL

    I AGREE WIT BEY ABOUT DIL AND 4 BEING CLASSICS AND NOT FOCUSING ON SINGLES

    KEY SIGNATURES, CHORD PROGRESSIONS, WORDS, DYNAMICS, BRIDGES AND SONG STRUCTURE MAKES LASTING MUSIC AND ID >>>> A FAD THAT FADES IN 5-10 YRS

  91. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @YEABEY
    I hope so but after the monumentum SL,she need to come with another big POP OF MUSIC moment .Hit single wont be enough

    @ROYAL KEV I agree 10000% with you.I am glad she spilling the tea and schoolin the youngins aswell 🙂

  92. YeaBey July 23, 2011

    @musiclovwe..agreed

  94. *Sigh*….. July 23, 2011

    Im not sure why people hate B’DAY. The album actually set the blueprint of her sound. Think about it all I am Sasha fierce was a mesh of DIL and B’DAY. Im not sure why Rihanna fans are commenting though. Rihanna doesn’t have one classic album herself. Neither does gaga,or the others. Beyonce is the most hated female and half of the people who hate her dont even know why exactly that is. Vocally this generation Beyonce wins. Performance wise she also takes the cake. However as raw and talented as she is onstage it never quite transmits itself to her records. 4 Vocally is her at her best. I find DIL to be grossly overrated. The first half of the album is killer then second half us just okay. Beyonce was nowhere near as strong vocally then as she is now. Every uptempo on b’day is better than the uptempos on dil. Every ballad on b’day is better than the ballads on dil.sasha fierce could’ve been on one disc instead of two

  95. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @SIGH
    Beyonce loves 4 & DIL more because most of the songs on those albums are about Jay-z 😉 😉
    I got it now

  96. Royalkev July 23, 2011

    @ Kat & YeaBey – Thanks! it’s a crime to not give this woman props for atleast 3 classic albums!

    @ Sigh – I have to agree with ALOT of what you’ve said! B’day was wonderful and better than both albums you mentioned.

    http://www.thepagewithroyalkev.b*******.com

  97. BC July 23, 2011

    the reason beyonce is the most hated is she is the most succeccful.thats simple.someone up here made a really dumb comment saying she think 4 is a classic because it does not have a #1 yet.does that even make sense.dont u think she would call IASF that if that was the case because that album has the most singles and sold the most singles.

  98. BC July 23, 2011

    i think she likes those 2 the best because they r the most r&b.that genre is her roots.and now that its fading she wants 2 bring it back because she loves it.

  99. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @BC
    NO
    she loves it more because of Jay-z songs ‘DIL’ ‘ that’s why you like it’ & ‘ 1+1’ ‘countdown’
    That’s why 😉 😉

  100. Anne July 23, 2011

    I kinda agree because although “I Am…” and “B’day” (my favorite Beyonce album before “4”) had somewhat of a balance btw. classics and songs specifically designed to be hits, “4” on the other hand is jam packed with songs specifically designed to be classics and music that is appreciated by those who listen to it, and know and love good music. And the vocals are amazing. The album helps to fill what has been pretty much a void in contemporary music with few exceptions, that’s why “4” is doing well and will continue to grow from here.

  101. Harlem July 23, 2011

    I AM is a Classic POP album……………………

  102. Anne July 23, 2011

    I guess when you think about it all of her albums could be considered classics on some level because they all had some classic songs, its just that “4” stands out as bigger collection of classics songs on one album with mainly R&B but soft rock and pop influences. I think Beyonce just sort of raised her own bar when it comes to ‘4.’

  103. Curtwill July 23, 2011

    Well, I get what she was trying to say but…B’day is a classic album and to me the epitome of the B’day sound sonically and the best album she ever done until 4. And btw, that album has a lot of chord progressions and heavy harmonic arrangements and overall strong production with an emphasis on Funk/Hip Hop. Pretty much the whole album, slayed. IASF is good, and the I AM CD is actually great rhythmic, and nicely executed stripped down vocal arrangements but the Sasha Fierce CD, drop it down a notch. I always felt DIL was good, but not great. But it’s close to what Prince and Maxwell, in that some of the songs are very conservationalist(Gift from a Virgo, Speechless, Be with you), many people think that the album and sound she should always do. But I think it is her worst album, really. Listen to the vocal arrangements from there to now OBJECTIVELY, and you will see what I mean.

    And since people want to mention Adele, her album and Bey’s album are pretty much neck and neck on the Metacritic scores(4 is a 73 and 21 is a 76), so it’s not like Adele’s album is this majorly high acclaimed album either. Speak Now from Taylor Swift has gotten more love critically. Though they are only separated by one point. I am a Adele Fan but the truth is the truth.

    Do you prefer the original or the sampled versions??

  106. 68jayy1 July 23, 2011

    WOW as I’m sitting here reading everyone’s comments, somebody said all of beyonces albums were classics in someway and I thought DIL had dangerously in love, crazy in love b’day had deja vu, still in love( IMO) and maybe irreplaceable, I am Sasha fierce hmmm sweet dreams, disappear, and that’s why you’re beautiful. And 4 whenever I listen to 1+1 i just get lost in her vocals the rawness she’s possessing the instruments and it’s a bonafide classic then there is I was here which I think Diane warren said it best it’s her career song the song that will define her as a musician! To me a classic album is a album people will listen to in their cars 7+ years later! And I think it may be early to tell 4s future bt its pretty apparent that it’s going down as one of the albums of the decade for sure! And at tha Rihanna fan who was blaming beyonce for Rihanna only having 1 Grammy! The Grammys only vote on REAL Music not that fast food stuff people want to hear and the sooner Rihanna realizes that then manner she can get more than one Grammy becUse unlike those other Award shows this one takes music seriously! And they obviously see through her facade! Sorry bt it’s the truth!

  107. Antonio July 23, 2011

    None of Beyonce’s 4 albums have been critically acclaimed. Dangerously in Love received a solid B or 3/5 from critics, so did B’day and I Am…Sasha Fierce actually received mixed to favorable reviews. 4 has been well received, but critically acclaimed. Performance wise, Beyonce is the best female of this generation, but musically, there are several female artists who are more talented than her such as Janet Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Adele, Janelle Monae, Amy Winehouse, Kelis, Lady Gaga, Jessie J. and Mariah Carey. Before any Beyonce stans my comment, please know that I am not shading Beyonce or saying she’s muscially un-talented, I am saying her music is nothing special to degree where people are saying her albums are classics. She, as the artist, may feel her albums are classics, but for real, they are far from classics. The other woman I mentioned have yet to release an classic album with the exception of Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Lauryn Hill, but their music is better than Beyonce’s. Beyonce writes about the same thing all the time: love, heartache and partying. Until she diversifies her lyrical content into topics such as homophobia, social injustice, individual expression, femininism, domestic violence, double standards in society and the music industry, depression, loniless, religious/social complexities and racism, then Beyonce will began to start making classics.

  108. Antonio July 23, 2011

    I believe the reason peopl think Dangerously in Love is a classic is because of it’s overall impact. Dangerously in Love is one of a handful of Urban albums to have worldwide success, but that doesn’t make it a classic or masterpiece. The same thign can be said about Michael Jackson and Prince. Just because Thriller and Purple Rain are their highest selling album, had the most overall impact and put them on the map, it does make them their best albums. Off the Wall, Bad and Dangerous are all musically superior to Thriller especially Dangerous and Off the Wall. With Prince, 1999, Dirty Mind and Sign O’ the Times are all musically better than Purple Rain. Now when it comes to Beyonce’s albums, Dangerously in Love sold well because there was so much hype surrounding Beyonce solo debut. The music was typical R&B IMO. Every other female had the exact same sound at the time, Ashanti, Monica, Brandy, Ciara, MJB, MC all had the mainstream R&B sound. B’day was full of nothing but radio friendly songs. Flaws and All, Still in Love, Get Me Bodied and Beautiful Liar were great but they overall album was typical R&B/Pop. I Am… Sasha Fierce was nothing special either. The I Am had some amazing songs like Halo, Disappear, Ave Maria, That’s Why You’re Beautiful and my favorite Beyonce song of all time Smash into You, but combined with the Sasha Fierce side, it really loses ground. However 4 is Beyonce’s best album to date, but it’s still not a classic. There are too many forgettables like Party, I Care, 1+1, Rather Die Young and Schoolin’ Life, meaning those songs are usually the ones I skip. I am sure Beyonce will make a classic, but right now she has yet to.

  109. LMFAO July 23, 2011

    @Just Saying BEyonce isnt a okay Voacalist She is a Damn Good one…!!!She is Up there !

  110. BlackANdRich July 23, 2011

    @royakkev and Yeabey I can tell yall are true BEY fan(like me) and I love it ….just from your comments I be like yep they on it….most people don;t get beyonce but us true fan that knows her worth understand and get her….tru indeed Beyonce threw shade at the girls when she mad that statement …..and she throws hella shade in her songs….just catch it,,,,no shade i think she threw shade at RiRI in schooling life(see you when you crash babbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeee) Yes Mrs Carter …read the kids…to all the RIRI fan no shade and I”m a RIRI fan but she will never get to beyonce level no shade what so ever….thats why she only has one grammy …we all know the girl can’t sing …They just package her well and it works for her…not taking anything from her either I f**** with RIRI…its just beyonce is better overall(everyones knows this too)…..IMO 4 is her best Album then DIL BDAY IASF…..can’t wait to see you on that stage boo …..NOBODY In the game at this moment or the last ten years can do that stage like MRS CARTER….(this is why she has so many haters) stay mad….work it out b cause they keep checking up on it.

  111. BlackANdRich July 23, 2011

    I wonder why is it that BEYONCE have so many haters…..What has she done to y’all haters.

  112. Those That Cannot Do, Stan July 23, 2011

    I think if Beyonce were to make a classic album (not a Beyonce classic but a CLASSIC) it might be her next album IF she chooses to continue on 4’s plan of music, odds are however she’ll go back go her formula and aim for some easy hits and clear radio singles.

  113. xratedforj July 23, 2011

    Its not really her that people hate…or i dont think its hate at all..but sometime her fans make her seem like she cant do no wrong and that noone can touch her. Its get tiring to keep hearing tht..so the outcome is taken out on her. The fans make alot of other music artist fans and people in general not care for her. They put down other musical artist and then expect it not to be given back so alot has to be blamed on her own fans. I believe 4 is one of her best albums but there is just a couple of things missing from it to make it a classic. Classic is an album or a song that will be played and remembered for years and I havent really heard any song that is a classic in 10yrs….

  114. BREEZYTHEBEST July 23, 2011

    IASF is one of her best albums, end of story.

  115. KAT DELUNA FAN July 23, 2011

    @XRATED
    This is b*******.A good song is a good song you can play it in 10 years or not wont change the fact that it’s a good song.Classic album?
    I am over this classic b******* ;Is 4 good or not? That the only thing that matter

    @ANTONIO
    I heavily agree with your second comment.But your first one
    Critic acclaim come from listeners.For example Pink Friday is way more noted than DIL.U see the b******* ?

    I think,I said ‘I’ think beyonce material is really great.She is an artist and a good musician.In my opinion she is even better than all the people you named cause:

    -Beyonce has proven she could go out of her comfort zone which contemporan R&B to do:Funk,MIA inspired song,Hip-Hop,Electro-R&B (Radio),Soul (Etta james ST),Disco,Jazz,Funk

    -Beyonce has proven than she had her own sound:BDAY ALBUM
    Body by teairra mari sound like a beyonce song
    Raining man by rihanna
    Put in a love song by Alicia
    for some example

    -Beyonce has proven they she could carry a tune and make you love a song that u should hate or not give a chance with her performance abilities:

    Ring the alarm (& RTW) is example of really inaccessible songs than I loved because of that.I hated the song until she performed it.so,the song is not bad,I couldnt just go into it.

    BEYONCE CHALLENGES HERSELF WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MORE THAN ANY BODY ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY.
    RAPPERS,OPERA SINGERS,SOUL SINGERS,etc …THEY NEVER TRY DIFFERENT THING.BEYONCE ALWAYS TRY TO CHANGE HER MUSIC(so she is musician) FIND NEW INSPIRATION.

    People always confuse beyonce with the other popular singers because she is popular but she is way more than that and way better that underground artists always considered better musician for some odd reason.

  116. Julian July 23, 2011

    I think you’re taking the comments out of context… She said DIL and IASF weren’t “classic albums” in the sense that she didn’t develop them as cohesive bodies of work, rather she made them with the focus on singles. Also, I don’t know how this thread became a debate about which of her albums is best… because that’s a little off topic. Lol. There’s no shade in what Bey said, and it’s her art so she has the right to say whatever she wants about it.

  117. WhoWhatMe July 24, 2011

    It’s funny–when Beyonce implies that B’Day and IASF weren’t her best albums or “classic” albums, she’s honest. When other people said it they were hating. Actually, out of them all, B’ Day was my favorite. However, her going in on artist focusing on their clothes, hair and image but not their vocals??? Is she kidding me?? This is the same chick wearing leotards, half dress, p-popping in all her live shows, has umpteen million photos of herself release “prompting” this album. She gives as much attention to image as any other artist. And the bad thing about it is, she doesn’t have to go that route because she does have a decent voice. It doesn’t matter if you can sing beautifully. Beyonce sings beautifully about nothing. She all style and very little substance. Beyonce needs to stop focusing on her singing style and technique and use that gift to sing about some meaningful stuff like Lauryn Hill rapped about meaning stuff. Then she will have a classic.

  118. Kill Yourselves Haters July 24, 2011

    I love Beyonce’s music but 4 is my favorite album.Her and Luther Vandross collabo was also classic.Dangerously in Love and Ava Maria was classic too.Halo isn’t exempt.Keep Doing A Great Job King B.Can’t wait to see her in concert again.

  119. Kill Yourselves Haters July 24, 2011

    May God Bless Everyone in The Beyhive and The Haters !!!! Have A Wonderful Night!!!!!

  120. Kill Yourselves Haters July 24, 2011

    Beyonce does sing about meaningful stuff.Love Is Always Meaningful,she doesn’t have to sing like anyone But Beyonce.SMH!!!! Good Night

  121. Mike July 24, 2011

    Did people forget Brandy had a Critically acclaimed album with afrodisiac get on her level….

  122. Anne July 24, 2011

    @ANTONIO, Beyonce sings about the same kinda topics that people like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, etc. sang about. Many songs about lonliness, female empowerment/feminism, depression, prostitution, obsession, adultery, money, heartache, love and love lost or other relationship dynamics are considered classics. If you really know her work, then you know Beyonce has covered all of these topics in different facets.

  123. Kellymotivation July 24, 2011

    @ANTONIO

    Speak for yourself. and not for everyone’

    “DIL” was an album which you could listen from A-Z…….The album had uptempo and wonderful ballads……The over all musicality and production was one of the best of the 2000″s…IT IS A MASTERPIECE.

  124. honeybunz July 24, 2011

    has she listened to the same songs and album that the general public has heard??? none of her albums inm y opinion are classics and particularly this last album which is the equivalent of dog poo on a stick in a 110 degree desert….this 4lop or as many many ppl are now calling it 4closure album has no growth no originality no maturity no sense no classics no iconic relativity its just loud music with even louder beats to a nasally groan filled manly voice yodeling to the beat…i cant believe so many ppl are still drinking the beyonce kool aid….rip amy winehouse YOU truly were an icon classic and genuine artist!!!

  125. Kingofleon July 25, 2011

    when she talsk aboy DIL being clssic i think refering more to the traditions of albums being a cohesive, body of work but if she is simply talking about the quality of the music shes wrong. Dangerously in love is a good album but its easily her worst album…. yes its more coherent than B’day and I AM SF but outside of crazy in love the songs on the album are very complacent. Its a collection of pleasant RnB songs, nothing thats hadn’t been seen throughout the 90s. To be honest all her albums have fallen short of being classic. B’day is more musicslly ambitious but lacked any substance. sasha fierce lacked coherance and is more a single colections with a few greats (SL, SWeet Dreams), whilst I am is deemed a classic only by people who’ve never heard a soft rock/pop/aletrnative album b4 but again has 1 or 2 classic songs in it. 4 is good like all her other albums it is definitely not a classic. If she were too take her live intrumentals and put them on her album she’d be a step closer to the greatness she desires so much.

    Also she shouldn’t be boasting about bringing those live vocals to the album because although some songs benefit from the added rawness and gusto (1+1), in other songs it just translates into shouting (start over). True vocal maturiy is achieved when you dont feel the need to belt on every song and put more focus on accents, tone and prononciation
