After many a group journey, Dawn Richard is striking out solo.
Currently hard at work on her debut LP ‘GoldenHeart’, the former Danity Kane staple has been drip-feeding fans with a taste of what to expect from the set when it arrives next year. The latest of which being the Druski produced ‘SMFU (Save Me From U)’.

With Dawn being such a ‘creative’, there always runs the risk of her missing the “commercial-enough” boat (somewhere she ultimately needs to be).
Thankfully, though, ‘Save Me’, strikes a potent balance between radio-friendly and compelling story-telling. From the sparse piano driven production, to the Brandy-inspired harmonies, as well as its relatable lyrical narrative, the track certainly has us hungry for another piece of Dawn’s ‘GoldenHeart’.

‘Brandy-Inspired’??? U mean Brandy RIP-OFF!! Sounds like Dawn’s taken a book from Beyonce’s page of inspiration, because this sounds like aduplicate of Brandy’s voice, style..everything!! Sorry Dawn,, your voice, and tone is dope, but there is only on Brandy!!
I love the words. I love her voice! HIT! I think the first step to truly appreciate music is to get past the “he/she is trying to sound like ______” mentality. Once you do that, listen to the words and the quality of talent behind the artist! Keep up the great work, Dawn.

brandy-esque yes. i wouldn’t be surprised if brandy had a hand in creating this. even if not, brandy’s influence on many a vocalist is underrated.
Yall are blind if you did not Dawn channeled Brandy i seen this all during MTB even before she was picked for the group her runs her harmonies everything and that is not a bad thing. This is not a single i know she will bring it she has real talent and Diddy saw that in her….but the song is nice soothing
This is not just Brandy’s style. I know so many people who sing in this style, many of them older than Brandy. This is a great song, great lyrical content and note choices.

I love this song it’s so beautiful..Dawn and Brandy are nothing alike..Brandy’s song choices were completely different from Dawn’s..If Dawn wouldn’t have mentioned Brandy, Brandy wouldn’t be a topic..I was a huge Brandy’s fan back in the day, and I still like her. However, II don’t see Dawn imitating Brandy at all..Why wasn’t she being compared to Brandy when she was in Danity Kane..This girl (Dawn) keeps WINNING by herself..There is no way that I could dislike someone..But yet I’m always on their time line!! Her voice is at times reminiscent of Brandy’s circa FULL MOON, but I wouldn’t say she’s ripping off Brandy. This is her first solo album to my knowledge, so she’s still searching for her own style. The song is nice overall, in particular the chorus.
This song goes in….I do hear a lot of Brandy but I think its becasue of their emotions and the way they sing. Their tones are similiar but I do not think she goes in the lab trying to sound like Brandy. However, most of the industry bites Brandy’s backround vocals that she gives us (started giving us on FM). I’m starting to like Dawn agian, her music is good.
