This month sees the release of Rihanna‘s new album ‘Talk That Talk’.
Her sixth album in just as many years, it marks yet another milestone in Ms. Fenty’s ever eventful career.
From her undeniable impact on the charts with the likes of ‘Umbrella‘ and ‘Rude Boy‘ to the trials and tribulations she has faced- very publicly- in her personal life, there are some who hail the entertainer as being one of the most ground breaking artists to debut within the last ten years.
Of course, there are those who feel differently.
Who feel that for all her ‘efforts’, Ms. Fenty – as successful as she has been on the singles front- has peaked too soon and can only be expected to suffer an abrupt decline in popularity in coming years.
Who would argue that unlike her fellow brunette and chart rival Beyonce, her entire cause has been based on a prolonged hype – kept alive by interchangeable wigs, chart hungry producers and knee jerk marketing strategies.

Not to compare her to Mariah because as we all know MARIAH IS Queen…Mariah did release album after album in the earlier part of her career but as we all know Mariah was MUCH MORE successful than Rihanna!
That being said, Mariah had A LOT more talent than Rihanna does and yes this is too much too soon! We get a new album every year and with that we get forgettable records and a new hair color! Yay us! -_-
Instead of trying to predict when Rihanna will flop like your idols (Xtina, Ciara etc.) why cant you give credit where its due? Rihanna is just as popular and relevant as she has ever been. If you cant see that image, personality and evolution are staples of the music industry, then theres really no point in commenting.
I think you’ll never be happy with Rihanna, but without her, there’d be a lot lot less for you to ponder on.

You know its funny you should post this because i have been thinking the exact same thing. It is already established that almost every song that Rihanna releases will turn to a hit because as on reviewer once said, “Rihanna can spot a hit a mile away”, but i think she should cool it down. Question, what would happen when she is thirty, forty? i think they are rushing things a little with Rihanna. I think that they should let the audience miss her a bit, plus I think she needs the rest before she collapses on stage. Come on!! In the midst of a world wide tour, an album is coming out?? Album promo is daunting enough, not to mention going on a big tour like hers. I think that after this album, Rihanna should try and look for some acting roles because and this is my opinion, If she works hard at it, i think she could be a good actress. God knows i love Rihanna because she does the E in entertainment but she is also a human being and as all human beings she needs to cool it down. Look at Beyonce, for instance, she took a year off, allowed the people to miss her and came back refreshed and ready. So should Rihanna.

My view on this as a mature adult has always been that, The young fans always get over the new artist and as they grow older they struggle and cannot supply the pubic with the mature material. I think that rihanna is limited. her vocals has peaked, she cannot do riffs and runs, she cannot do a lot of ranges. she has no musical depth.her voice is basic, hence the reason her songs don’t have much depth and soul. I seriously cannot imagine her at 30 or 40 yrs. she has had 5 albums and her skills has not improved. her performances, he dancing, her stage presence. is a no no, but the songwriters give her the hits which is not forever.
I know the stans will keep hating me for my honest opinion. it is not hating but a lot of my peers dance to her music but don’t take her seriously as an artist. she does not that scream magnificent. fans and stans enjoy her. the music industry gives her no bug buzz. she should be dominating nominations and tearing down stages already at 7 years signed. reason i am not a fan , because i am not here for these songs with a few ranges and childish melodies. i support talent, something that stands out amongst the rest.

As much as I love Rihanna and her music, I do think she is too much. I’m proud of her success and all, but we’re in an era that people will get tired of you quickly. Yes, Mariah used to release album after album, but she had talent to back it up and classic music. Britney also used to release an album every year but stopped that trend once her personal life was getting out of hand, but it also made for her fans to miss her and for her to provide an oustanding comeback. Rihanna, on the other hand, does have a nice voice, but it’s nothing major. She doesn’t have an outstanding vocal range, electrifying performance skills, or any personality as an artist behind her ever-changing hair styles and fashion. What she does have is an ok voice and a million producers giving her their very best work just for a hit, and it’s working no doubt. But after it’s all said and done, I dont think Rihanna’s success can be credited that much to Rihanna herself. Yes it takes more than just the artist to achieve what they can achieve, but a true respectable artist and one that is an icon or legend has a succesful career based majorly on their talent and artistry. Examples: Beyonce > her performance and vocal acrobats. Whitney > that voice. Mariah > her voice and songwriting. Christina > her voice. Britney > her performance/stage presence and dancing. Janet > performance, videos, songwriting and innovation. The list goes on. Then you have Rihanna > her songs (not written or produced by her), her hair/fashion styles, promotion.
Again, I’ve been a fan of Rihanna’s since her early days and I became a bigger fan around the Rated R era…. but to be honest and really analyze things, her career isn’t much to brag about considering the reasons why she has what she has. Pretty soon, this gimmick is going to die off and then what will she have ? Yes, millions of SINGLES sold and bank, but as for artistry, she’ll have nothing to fall back on. And if she, her team, or her fans say that all of that doesnt matter cuz she’s making bank, then it’s time to admit and realize the music industry is no longer about music and is DEAD and you have Ms. Rihanna, and the likes her peers, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, etc to thank for that.

No one has to wait for her to peak, its obvious that she is still growing as an artist. When someone peaks, it means they have reached their maximum capacity and there is no where else to go but down. So rihanna’s star is still brightly lit and she is still coming with something new and fresh everytime. Selling more with each album, still garnering hits, breaking and shattering records. IF I were an artist, peaking would be the last thing I would want to do. But continual growth is what I would be aiming for, and rihanna is doing just that growing and surviving in a very competitive industry and remaining successful at that. So the sky’s the limit for her.

Rihanna simply isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t think she’s much of a performer. I think her voice is very limited and I think her music is generic (especially since the ‘Loud’ era). Still, I won’t take anything away from her, she does have great success on the singles chart. That’s going to be her claim to fame. Her impact is questionable. When it’s all over and done ‘Umbrella’ seems to be the only hit song that she will have that’s credible, perhaps, ‘Take a Bow’, ‘Disturbia’, ‘Only Girl’ and ‘What’s my name’ will be remembered fondly. For someone that releases so much music that’s not so impressive. I think Rihanna should take this time to start developing herself into a artist that can be taken more seriously at this point. She’s in a very interesting position. She’s never been an ‘it’ girl, but she’s always been relevant because she was what represented anything “anti Beyonce”(which many people flocked to her because of). As Bey goes down a different road as an accomplished artist and expecting new mom with new priorities, I wonder if Rihanna will really continue to matter. See, it seems that she’s always been important as long as she’s in a race as someone else’s competitior. I don’t know if Rihanna can stand on her own two feet. If she manages to pull this off, I think she should change the direction of her artistry for the better. I do wish her luck!

I think that this next album will be her so-called “peak”, actually. People are eating “We Found Love” and the song isn’t even that good – that means she has a steady fan base who’ll support her no matter what. Despite the generic first single, I have a feeling that this next era will be a deeper era for Rihanna, hopefully something like Rated R. After this album, though, I think she should take at least 6 months off for her own sake. And I do believe she will have a comeback after the Talk That Talk era, something like “Emancipation of Mimi” – commercially successful that is. It’s a given Rihanna cannot reach the Queen’s level at singing, writing or creativity. But I do think she has more to prove and that she’ll stick around in the next decade too, unlike some others who seem to have peaked already (Nicki Minaj, Gaga, Ciara – although I like these ladies, it seems that they’ve had their time and shine)

I think it terms of longevity, there’s no hope for Rihanna because when people look back at her first 10 years in the industry, what has she brought to the table that is “EPIC” and “GROUNDBREAKING?” Rihanna doesn’t have one album or song except Rated R that will have any lasting effect on people. Rated R will have a lasting effect on me because to me, that was her defining album. The music was very introspective yet a little playful and that’s what I like. Her music is an “In the moment, just to stay on the charts” kind of thing. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I feel with her status and how she releases an album every year, she will burn out eventually. It happened to Mariah, Cher, Madonna, Whitney etc…it will happen to her!

This post is so laughable! How many times are people going to write Rihanna’s obituary? From an album selling standpoint, GGGB was her peak, just like The Fame/Fame Monster was/is Gaga’s. The fact that Gaga, Bey, Ri, and Britney, have their best selling albums behind them doesn’t mean that they will automatically sink into irrelevancy. If that were true than Rihanna would be irrelevant now, but that certainly isn’t the case, now is it? BTW is not the second coming of Christ smash that it was supposed to be. So, does that mean that Gaga no longer matters?
It will be harder for Rihanna to wield s** as a selling point as she ages, but you could say that about any female recording artist, particularly Mariah who would lose more and more clothing with each album cover until she started nearing 40.

Peak? No… Overexposed? Yes. There is a major difference. I think Lady Gaga has peaked simply because her “gimmick” is getting old. Her strategy is one to note.
I do think she should take a break. She doesn’t give herself time to rest and gain artistic perspective. However, Rihanna is so well tuned with her fans. That’s why she is such a force in the industry. She’s built her stardom on having a personal relationship with her fans and her audience.
It’s understandable why she released A Girl Like Me and Music of the Sun back to back. The label was trying really hard to establish her as an artist. WHY IS some People bringing Lady Gaga up? I believe gaga hasn’t peaked but she is now overexposed. She needs to tour and then take a much needed break, and come back in about 2013 0r 2014. The difference between those other artist and rihanna is, each of Rihanna album is different she’s a more versatile artist. she’s comfortable in different genre. RNB artist just do rnb because of this, its easier for her to reinvent herself.. compare to other artist people always wonder whats her next album will sound like. she’s not predictable like beyonce and the other RNB and pop artist.

well seeing as how only 4 years ago (with 60 Rihanna posts) Sam was shouting about how much he didnt think she would be relevant in 5 years…….. I feel like this post will also lose the miniscule validity it had the moment it was posted. I feel like this blog will will also be forgotten within the life span of 10 years….. If Sam and his minions do not get their act together and stop being biased they will never be able to get his little blog off the ground without having to post trash talk on Rihanna and pieces on Beyoncé.
With that said… Rihanna will continue to be one of the driving forces in music with her unique sound and every album bringing something different to the table her name will continue to be etched in the record books. You can say what you want about her not writing any of her hits, the songs she has taken part in writing also have been great musical pieces. At least shes not like Beyoncé who’s name is only stamped on a songs writing/production credits because its in her contract. The songs she has actually put pen to paper with she gets her credit.
Honestly Sam just has no vendetta against Rihanna. He sings her songs in the shower and has all her albums SIGNED by her. The reason he has never shown his face because he knows he is front row at her concerts over in London shouting EVERY lyric. Madonna is a legend because she had a huge impact on the pop culture. She started several pop phenomenons. Some of her songs and videos have inspired many generations. See Lady Gaga. She started all these controversies on her music videos and songs before Gaga and Rihanna were born. Every single female pop star will be compared to her. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney, Christina, etc. I think only Beyoncé and Alicia Keys don’t have real connections to Madonna’s work at all.
#1 singles aren’t what make you a legend. If you ask general people who’s currently on the top of the charts, most of them won’t have an idea what to say.
To become a real legend, you have to start pop phenomenons, have iconic moments and be respected by critcs. Rihanna’s last pop phenomenon was “Umbrella”. Honestly, she doesn’t have memorable performances. And Grammy, VMA, EMA and BET aren’t huge fan of hers.
